Infernal Offering

Sorcery

Choose an opponent. You and that player each sacrifice a creature. Each player who sacrificed a creature this way draws two cards.

Choose an opponent. Return a creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield, then that player returns a creature card from his or her graveyard to the battlefield.

77hi77 on Restrictions to make commanders interesting?

I've been looking through my decks lately, and it's really hitting me how weird my deckbuilding style is. So while I don't consider myself an experienced player by any stretch of the imagination, I might have some perspectives to share.

Similar to what legendofa said, I'm a huge fan of messing with the colour pie. So, one deck I'm working on is Evra, Halcyon Witness, which most people would see as a life gain commander, I see it as a really specialized version of Hatred, but instead of "Pay X life", X is set for you. So that made me think, can I build a mono-white deck that plays like a mono-black? How many options does white have for paying life and sacrificing your own creatures? I'd like to do something similar with the other colours, like how many one-drops can I use to make a funky aggro deck?

A deck I'm still in the theorizing process for is the answer to the question "how funny would it be if I built a deck where I can't cast the commander?". Right now I'm thinking Inalla, Archmage Ritualist but build the deck in mono-blue and just go blue wizard tribal. Maybe I'd allow myself a Fellwar Stone and one card that can let me steal another player's mana rock, so that casting my commander becomes an achievement to celebrate. From there it's a balance of building a viable 99 that has a chance to win the game, while sticking to the idea that I want this deck to be funny. This was very much inspired by watching Commander at Home whenever Olivia gets incoherent from laughing so hard at her own shenanigans.

My favourite deck I've built yet, which still needs quite a bit of work, is Defile Me Daddy Rakdos. Rakdos the Defiler is the commander, and most decks I've seen with him as the commander focus on how painful it is to be hit by him, then double down on that pain. I thought, it'd be more fun if I were to lean into the politics of a commander like that. So I put in a whole bunch of cards that demand deals: Scheming Symmetry, Infernal Offering, Sower of Discord, and other effects that either say "two of us will get a very nice thing" or "two of us will get a very bad thing". I see it as forcing you to get in character, you kind of have to play like a demon to pilot this demon deck.

I've also been eyeing proliferating commanders, mostly because the lands and mana rocks that use counters of some sort are really cool. Peat Bog, Altar of Shadows and Pyramid of the Pantheon, for example. Then balance it with non-standard proliferating wincons, so instead of +1/+1 counters and infect, I've been thinking of cards like Strixhaven Stadium, or the ult on a few planeswalkers (Vraska, Scheming Gorgon immediately comes to mind).

Hope that gave you some ideas! I'm on the exact opposite journey, because I'm too good at restricting myself, and whenever I try to bring friends into the game I can't really lend them any of my decks.

Commander 2013 Tempt cards (Tempt with Immortality, Tempt with Vengeance, honorary spot for Tempting Contract), Commander 2014 Offerings (Infernal Offering and Volcanic Offering), and Strixhaven Commander Demonstrate cards (Creative Technique and Incarnation Technique) are good places to look for political cards. Spectral Searchlight is an option.

I know some people have already suggested Rankle, Master of Pranks but I’m going to suggest him again cause he seems like a very good addition to the deck.

Another suggestion would be Infernal Offering. Infernal Offering seems like it’s the exact type of card you’re looking for, it can heavily benefit you while also not being such a feel bad moment for your opponents.

Both Rankle, Master of Pranks and Infernal Offering seem like they’d fit right in with what you want. Infernal offering especially is the best of both worlds since you’re not only getting to steal whichever creature they sac while letting them draw more, but chances are the creature they get to return to the battlefield from the second ability won’t be very good cause you’ll have most likely already stolen most of their best creatures.

Already made some changesDemMeowsephs

  1. Some Creatures changes I end up adding: Yawgmoth, Thran Physician , Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit , Elenda, the Dusk Rose and Luminarch Aspirant . Also changed Citadel Siege for Felidar Retreat as it can give me tokens to sac and more counters not just 2

  2. Cut Mind's Eye , Black Sun's Zenith , Blot Out the Sky , Infernal Offering , Secret Rendezvous and Debtors' Knell

  3. More added: Sword of Truth and Justice , Sign in Blood , Beacon of Unrest , Command the Dreadhorde , Ambition's Cost and Victimize

  4. Doubts with: Custodi Soulbinders as it can give me a lot of tokens but I have to be set up already with my tokens or wait for oponents to set up their own table. I think I can swap it for something more usefull. Scheming Symmetry maybe I can get Profane Tutor until I have a more solid tutor.

Maybe quit some lands for other cards as: Phyrexian Altar The Ozolith Coat of Arms

Glad to hear it! Yeah sheesh I didn't even realize it was that much I remember it being like fifteen bucks a little while back, that's kind of insane- but hmm. Oh holy crap the synergy with Teysa Karlov and Felisa is kind of crazy, just noticed that too. But here are some ones I would recommend cutting, though if they are fun/interesting to you or serve a purpose I missed, I could obviously be wrong:

Those are just some I see off the top of my head, if you look a little deep and really question how many times you play a card and utilize it, you might find some more! Sometimes its hard to cut a card you enjoy playing even if its fun so I'd recommend having a list of cards you can add for fun, and a list for effectiveness so you can play both sides! Hope this helps, I'm glad some suggestions are useful to you, and I'll let you know if I see any more possible cuts! Feel free to ask for any more assistance or if you have any questions I'd be glad to help.

Ok, so here's the list of stuff for aikido stuff first:

Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist might be interesting with a deflection kind of idea, not sure if he's right for it though.

Tasigur, the Golden Fang is a good way to get stuff back without drawing too much attention to yourself; just another way of gaining repeatable card advantage.

Intellectual Offering and Infernal Offering and some other cards of their ilk might be fun for the group hug side of the archetype, but don't lean into that too hard or your deck will become bad. The other cycles to look at are the tempt cycle (Tempt with Immortality, Tempt with Reflections) and anything with council's dilemma or will of the council.

More tomorrow.

So the biggest thing I see if lack of things to sacrifice... Namely: tokens, because you don't want to be tossing your real creatures into Ye old Graveyard. So let's try to find some token making things for you....

  1. There isn't much for Anax, Hardened in the Forge to be pumped up by in red devotion, so let's trade him out for one of the classic Goblin makers.. Let's pick Krenko, Mob Boss and Thornbite Staff... this should allow for an infinite amount of goblins..... I'll explain below.
  2. Remove Diregraf Captain, Fallen Shinobi, and Bloodsoaked Champion- they don't seem to added much.
  3. Add in Syr Konrad, the Grim, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Vindictive Vampire to have more stuff happen when things die.
  4. Trade out Dreadhorde Invasion for Bastion of Remembrance for one last death trigger addition before we go back to tokens...
  5. I'd say.. remove Ogre Slumlord, Scampering Scorcher, and Infernal Offering.
  6. Let's add Rite of Replication to make copies of anything useful on the board, and.. oh hell, let's add Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin... is that 100 cards again.. I think so

This should create more tokens for sacrificing and also add some more benefits when things do die, and they will die. I would also recommend Altar of Dementia as an additional sac outlet... Izzet Signet can be dropped for this addition.

For infinite Goblins.. Get ANY sacrifice outlet on the board, I don't care which one, just do it, and get Krenko, Mob Boss out also and ready to be tapped. Equip Thornbite Staff to Krenko... Tap him to make some goblins (maybe just one or two, that's okay). Now you can sacrifice that Goblin Token, which dies and triggers the second ability of Thornbite Staff (Whenever a creatures dies, Untap equipped creature).. now you can Tap Krenko again making more goblins... and hey.. sacrifice a token again to create more goblins... triggering the Staff AGAIN! As long as there is some other death triggers on the board, you should be able to drain the table and/or pump Thraximundar to an unreasonable size and kill someone.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
