The $25 Invite
Hello all, and welcome to the Dungeon! Well, the budget dungeon. We've seen better days here. But none of that matters, because with some cunning tricks we are going to make this poor deck shine like solid gold!
Why Play This Deck?
Basically, play this deck if you want the cheapest possible Doomsday list. Or you want to go for that one sweet, sweet game in a thousand where your $25 deck goes off on turn 3. Or you just like interesting budget decks. Who am I to judge?
How It Works
Due to the budget we don't have many good cards. We can't contest the board in a protracted game, and we can't reliably keep everything off it either. As such the vast majority of the deck falls into three categories.
The biggest thing this deck does is cycle. We're using the power of Red and Black draw to turbo through our deck, trying to hit the right colours for our combo, as well as to try to find Doomsday itself. You will need BBB3 on your combo turn and prioritizing draw over board presence will help you get there.
Of course it wont be easy to stay alive without interaction. To help you deal with problem permanents we're running the full suite of decent, cheap interaction in our colours (and some interaction that is... questionable). This abundance of interaction will also allow you to politic for time and alliances, which can arguably be more useful than the removal itself.
As we've touched on before, the combo needs BBB3 to go off. Cards like
Blood Pet
help you get there, or can ramp you to an early victory. They also make decent blockers, so don't be scared to let them die for you. It's their job after all.
The Doomsday Pile
Assuming you have BBB3 in your pool, here is how your turn should go.
- Cast
Doomsday
(BBB spent, 3 remaining)
- Pick the following cards in the following order (bottom to top):
Priest of Gix
,
Priest of Urabrask
,
Skirk Prospector
,
Murderous Redcap
,
Metallic Mimic
- Activate Grenzo (2 spent, 1 remaining). This will bring out
Priest of Gix
(BBB1 in pool)
- Activate Grenzo (BB spent, B1 remaining). This will bring out
Priest of Urabrask
(BRRR1 in pool)
- Activate Grenzo (B1 spent, RRR remaining). This will bring out
Skirk Prospector
- Activate Grenzo (RR spent, R remaining). This will bring out
Murderous Redcap
- Sacrifice
Murderous Redcap
to
Skirk Prospector
for R (RR in pool)
- Respond to the Persist trigger by activating Grenzo (RR spent, 0 remaining). This will bring out
Metallic Mimic
. Choose Golbin.
-
Murderous Redcap
enters with a -1-1 counter from Persist and a +1+1 counter from
Metallic Mimic
. They cancel each other out and you are free to sacrifice
Murderous Redcap
over and over again for infinite damage.
