$25 Budget Grenzo Doomsday - Turn 3 Kill

Commander / EDH BR (Rakdos) Budget Combo Infinite Combo

The $25 Invite

Hello all, and welcome to the Dungeon! Well, the budget dungeon. We've seen better days here. But none of that matters, because with some cunning tricks we are going to make this poor deck shine like solid gold!

Why Play This Deck?

Basically, play this deck if you want the cheapest possible Doomsday list. Or you want to go for that one sweet, sweet game in a thousand where your $25 deck goes off on turn 3. Or you just like interesting budget decks. Who am I to judge?

How It Works

Due to the budget we don't have many good cards. We can't contest the board in a protracted game, and we can't reliably keep everything off it either. As such the vast majority of the deck falls into three categories.

  • Draw

The biggest thing this deck does is cycle. We're using the power of Red and Black draw to turbo through our deck, trying to hit the right colours for our combo, as well as to try to find Doomsday itself. You will need BBB3 on your combo turn and prioritizing draw over board presence will help you get there.

  • Removal

Of course it wont be easy to stay alive without interaction. To help you deal with problem permanents we're running the full suite of decent, cheap interaction in our colours (and some interaction that is... questionable). This abundance of interaction will also allow you to politic for time and alliances, which can arguably be more useful than the removal itself.

  • Batteries

As we've touched on before, the combo needs BBB3 to go off. Cards like Blood Pet help you get there, or can ramp you to an early victory. They also make decent blockers, so don't be scared to let them die for you. It's their job after all.

The Doomsday Pile

Assuming you have BBB3 in your pool, here is how your turn should go.

The Turn 3 Kill

As promised, this deck is capable of a few turn 3 kills. Bear in mind that this is very much a Magical Christmas Land scenario.

  • Scenario 1:

Turn 1: Swamp into Blood Pet

Turn 2: Mountain into Grenzo

Turn 3: Land into Dark Ritual and Doomsday , sacrificing Blood Pet to get that final mana for BBB3

  • Scenario 2:

Turn 1: Dwarven Ruins

Turn 2: Swamp into Grenzo

Turn 3: Land into Dark Ritual and Doomsday , sacrificing Dwarven Ruins to get that final mana for BBB3

  • Scenario 3:

Turn 1: Ebon Stronghold

Turn 2: Mountain into Grenzo

Turn 3: Land into Dark Ritual and Doomsday , sacrificing Ebon Stronghold to get that final mana for BBB3

  • Scenario 4:

Turn 1: Swamp/Mountain

Turn 2: Swamp/Mountain into Grenzo

Turn 3: Crystal Vein into Dark Ritual and Doomsday , sacrificing Crystal Vein to get that final mana for BBB3

Conclusion

Well, I hope you enjoyed the read, and that I've done a decent job selling you on the deck. It's really fun and you'll certainly get a "Woah!" from your friends when they see you drop Doomsday in a hyper-budget brew. Enjoy!
