Rubbish Rumble 2: Live Fast, Eat Trash

Commander / EDH Raccoon RG (Gruul)

Tinnuki

Overview

As much as I love my Bello deck, it sometimes leads to repetitive, straightforward games. The precon is one of the more powerful out-of-the-box decks in recent years. Bello himself is rather strong with little effort, turning value into stompy combat power automatically. Since raccoons are my favorite animal, I wanted to stay related to that deck just enough, but also have a slightly more interactive, less predictable experience.

Muerra, Trash Tactician is an interesting, overlooked commander choice. She turns a rather new and under-supported creature type into what I like to call "passive mana dorks". The free extra mana given by her first ability helps accumulate value to ramp and accelerate us into our big spells, while catching her Expend triggers along the way. We don't even explicitly need to lean into the kindred synergy to focus on both her Expend and Cast-from-Exile potential, but come on... Trash Pandas.

Card Rundown

Many of our Bloomburrow-based raccoons have Expend, granting:
Bakersbane Duo, Bark-Knuckle Boxer, Junkblade Bruiser, Roughshod Duo, Wandertale Mentor: A modest, single-target buff

Brambleguard Veteran: A modest, blanket buff

Byway Barterer: Refresh your hand

Teapot Slinger: Some chip damage

Trailtracker Scout: Graveyard recursion

Those that don't care about Expend:
Bramble Familiar, Brazen Collector, Prosperous Bandit: Some extra mana

Coati Scavenger: Recursion

Keen-Eyed Curator: Graveyard hate

Raccoon Rallier, Scrappy Bruiser: Grant haste or trample to one of our big guys

Rust-Shield Rampager: Sneak in some low-to-the-ground damage

Scrapshooter: An optional Naturalize effect

And a couple extra ways to make token raccoons:
Gourmand's Talent, Sylvan Scavengingfoil

And there's also these guys:
Masked Vandal, Realmwalker

A good amount of our deck is devoted to
Ramp:
Alchemist's Talent, Big Score: Treasures

Birds of Paradise, Commander's Spherefoil, Goblin Anarchomancer, Mind Stonefoil, Thought Vesselfoil: Dorks and Rocks

Cultivate, Rampant Growth *f-etch*, Sakura-Tribe Elderfoil: Classic land ramp

Horizon Stone: Bank some of Muerra's extra mana. Warning: this artifact will be removed immediately

Card Advantage:
Harmonize, Return of the Wildspeaker, Rishkar's Expertise, Thrill of Possibility: Commander classics

Byway Barterer, Take Out the Trash, Vanquisher's Banner: Some kindred-based options

Coati Scavenger, Peerless Recycling, Trailtracker Scout: Graveyard recursion

Hugs, Grisly Guardian and Party Thrasher grant some extra impulse draw.

and some other Interaction and Removal:
Abrade
Beast Within
Blasphemous Act
Chaos Warp
Collective Resistance
Decimate
Nature's Claim

Combat:
Craterhoof Behemoth: Always a classic

End-Raze Forerunners: Craterhoof at home

Apex Devastator, Etali, Primal Storm: Couple of big guys

Banner of Kinship grants a large, blanket buff late in the game

Kessig Wolf Run, Return of the Wildspeaker, Rhythm of the Wild, Unnatural Growth: All generically good support for our stompy guys

Gourmand's Talent synergizes with Muerra's Expend 4 perfectly. At level two, you'll be making an extra token (and mana) every turn. At level three, you'll be buffing your entire battlefield every turn.

Burn:
Comet Storm and Jaya's Immolating Inferno act in the same way, throwing around an excessive amount of damage.

Alchemist's Talent: Hold on to your treasures for one of our big guys

Inferno of the Star Mounts is not only a formidable threat, hitting the 20-power threshold is easier than you might expect with Muerra. Pump to 20, swing together with Scrappy Bruiser or Kessig Wolf Run, and you should all but have the game.

This deck is still new and is being tuned, so I'll be updating this as I play. Thanks for reading!
