V.1. Update Compendium —March 5, 2019

To save space I have condensed my updates to one space for the convenience of my viewers. Below you will find all the updates for the first version. Most were written with an interactive standpoint, I think in the future I will change that.

V1.1 Update —June 13, 2017

After playing this for awhile now, we come to our first update where I list off what I think isn't quite pulling it's own weight. I will try to detail the problems as best I can, if you have any questions feel free to comment.

Narset Transcendent: While the number of non creature/lands are swayed in favor of her first ability, and there are plenty of targets for her second effect, her ultimate ability makes her a target even though that is not the goal. Considering replacing with another useful flyer.

Grand Arbiter Augustin IV: Again first and second ability relevant to me, the third is an unfortunate effect I can't turn off, which makes him target numero uno. Any other 'make my spells cheaper' options out there?

Mistmeadow Witch: Amazing ability, high activation cost. Cheaper alternative, or replace with another useful flyer?

Talent of the Telepath: Fun card, even won me a game once. Just not sure it fits the overall theme...

Silent Departure , and Dramatic Rescue: I'd like to replace with 'return a permanent' effects. Have some, want more.

And finally, Polymorphist's Jest: I play against a lot of +1/+1 counter types, this only serves to make them giant frogs instead of what they were. Considering second board wipe in place. (4th if you include rift and washout).

Hiya folks, looking to do a bit of an update here and would like you're esteemed reviews. Here are the changes in question:

(Already in deck - Replacement)

Reflector Mage - Spy Network : While I usually try to trade type for type I feel we have too many creatures right now seeing as we can pretty much pull out any winged critter we desire. These cards produce relatively the same effect, knowledge of what's in hand.

Sprite Noble - Fireshrieker : Another "not same type" case. I felt the double strike effect can be a potential game changer as opposed to +1 on the butt and a tap ability for +1 to the front. With our commander it nets us a double payday. Pairs with Dragonlord Ojutai as well to double Anticipate , or Brago (up next).

Kefnet the Mindful - Brago, King Eternal: Kefnet has been pretty "hit or miss" in the sense of not being reliably online when needed. While it is a good mana sink for card advantage, Brago offers a pseudo vigilance of sorts, as well as the reuse of our plenty ETB effects.

Darksteel Mutation - Reality Shift: Mutation, while yes it can shut off a commander, it has bit me in the ass just about every time I've used it. Indestructible does that... So I figured try something different, though it to has the potential to turn out badly I suppose in it's own way.

Master of Predicaments - Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld: Master is nice until they catch on that almost everything you're trying to cheat out is 4+, esp when you have to reveal what you tutor. Gisela is 1 half to a whole bigger monster. (See below)

Isperia, Supreme Judge - Bruna, the Fading Light  Meld: originally I thought people would be discouraged allowing me to draw cards... because come on... blue... desired effect not achieved. Our hand is rarely out of stock here anyway. Bruna completes the pair for Brisella, Voice of Nightmares. Something that can be set up easily once we draw into one of them.

Other changes that were made during this update:

In: Diluvian Primordial, Angelic Arbiter, Fumigate, Gravitational Shift, Archon of Redemption, Strionic Resonator, and Azorius Charm.

Out: Sphinx of the Final Word, Resolute Archangel, Polymorphist's Jest, Corrupted Conscience, Dungeon Geists, Borrowing 100,000 Arrows, and Dramatic Rescue

Yes, I know... we just had the V1.2 update not long ago. However I managed to acquire more new toys. So I present to you the next batch of possible changes. (Sorry, no spare Deadeye Navigator lying around)

Changes: (In - Out)

Angel of Jubilation - Thistledown Liege: The most obvious reason here is flying vs not. The added benefit is the added hate for those wishing to pay life or sacrifice for costs.

Radiant, Archangel - Gravitational Shift: I see Radiant as a finisher of sorts as well as being able to offer both offence and defense via vigilance. Shift has worked against me in the past...(Note: Radiant never made it as she feels better in a token build.)

Peek - Clairvoyance: Not a huge change. Was hoping to add the additional 1 but could not find anything else to pull in its place. Only difference being the immediate cantrip.

Zur's Weirding - Talent of the Telepath: Talent is great, don't get me wrong, however, Weirding fit the theme better. (Note: Weirding didn't work out as people are ok denying cards the to one that played it. Kept Talent.)

Recent Changes: In - Out

Azorius Signet - Azorius Cluestone: Just a cheaper mana rock.

Angelic Skirmisher - Radiant, Archangel: Radiant wasn't as big as I thought she'd be, probably better off in a flying token type deck. Skirmisher's in testing.

Duelist's Heritage - Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld: Brisela never got to fire off, so kinda feel it's a wasted spot. Heritage allows for double "on damage" effects, particularly Isperia.

Angelic Arbiter - Bruna, the Fading Light  Meld: See Above. Arbiter is in testing, if it draws too much hate I may try something else... Platinum Angel maybe... not sure.

Angel of Condemnation - Mistmeadow Witch: Angel is pretty much a flying version of the Witch.

Clairvoyance - Merfolk Spy: Not everyone plays blue so dead draw sometimes, so now I have 3 cards that do almost the same thing.

Other considerations include Sigil of Sleep , Azorius Charm , and as mentioned before, Platinum Angel . Things I'm iffy on right now are Archetype of Imagination as it doesn't have flying itself, and Peregrine Drake because it's small for what it does and it's cost I guess.

So I recently dismantled a deck and now I have an Avacyn, Angel of Hope and an Archangel of Thune languishing in the Blind Eternities aka my collection.... do you think it's just a "Winmore" here or should they make their next debut here? Also, is Command Tower really necessary in a Dual Colored deck? In the spirit of keeping it as budget as possible I'm apt to say no, however it is reprinted practically every year so... Leave your thoughts in the comments, thanks as always!

A few other considerations from the Maybe list:

Ephara, God of the Polis vs Cloudblazer or Mulldrifter - Ephara, while indestructible doesn't fly. The others can be searched and blinked for repeatable effect.

Dragonlord Ojutai vs the new Dream Eater : minus the no hexproof, I think the latter is a significant improvement.

Wandering Eye vs Wizened Snitches: is it pretty much the same thing for a higher cost, or us there some extra value here because of all cards not being revealed at all times? Take advantage of poor memories like mine.

Comments made during this period can be found in the archive above the comment section .

This deck started out solely from my collection, and totalled about $80tcg. Over time it hasn't moved too much, only up to $120 tcg. To progress any further however I feel we need to move higher in our budget range, therefore we move to Version 2. I will still however try to cap it at $200tcg, and as a future project create both an extreme budget version, and a CEDH version and provide links for those interested. I hope you've all enjoyed it thus far, and if you're still along for the ride... Thanks for you're continued support in making this Tappedout's # 1 Rated Isperia the Inscrutible deck.

You should add some board wipe like Wrath of God or Supreme Verdict.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #2

I am on the fence about that, I have Rift and Wash Out to return things to hand. More stuff to name w/ Isperia. I have End Hostilities, I may trade it for Verdict if I can acquire one. Still think there should be more than one 'destroy' wipe?

Zenaku17 says... #3

You should always have more then one bored wipe. Especially in blue white if something doesn't go your way and you can't counter it just wipe the whole bored.

I like always watching and aqueous form. Had a few feel bad moments where Isperia cant grt in on people and it feels bad. Whispersilk cloak might be a good card to consider shroud and unblockable. Plus white has tutors for it.

Propaganda and Norn's Annex would be decent additions to deter being attacked.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #6

Trying to stay away from stax, my first choice of azorius commanders was Augustus, but only build ideas I could find was stax. Isperia seemed and proved to be a lot of fun. I was kinda thinking of fitting a small hugs theme as deterrence, just not sure. Right now its mostly.. Board wipe? Nope! Attacking? Bounce! Build a giant board state and swing kinda plan.

With all things though there is a space issue. I considered voltron seeing as my commander needs to attack to get its effect, just took away from everything else though. Thanks for the suggestions though, always appreciated.

I am just getting back into playing MtG Commander only, and I am not quite sure how to aid you in your deck building. Try Wall of Reverence for a Flying Wall that has minor shenanigans.

Made some changes, some of which may not be permanent depending on their performance.

In: Diluvian Primordial, Angelic Arbiter, Fumigate, Gravitational Shift, Archon of Redemption, Strionic Resonator, and Azorius Charm.

Out: Sphinx of the Final Word, Resolute Archangel, Polymorphist's Jest, Corrupted Conscience, Dungeon Geists, Borrowing 100,000 Arrows, and Dramatic Rescue

Thoughts? Any alternate suggestions? Let me know.

Nice deck my friend! Maybe you could throw in a Blazing Archon or Avacyn, Angel of Hope? High casting costs admittedly, but the pay off in benefits for you is incredible.

pbird123 says... #10

Maybe consider replacing Strionic Resonator with Battle Mastery. I know battle mastery being an aura makes it more vulnerable but on Isperia it does the same thing and let's you hit for 6. Or maybe Duelist heritage cause its good as well. Also how is dissipation field in this deck? I feel like whenever I run it people always attack me to get repeated ETBs but it seems good.

+1 from the EDH Show your Deck.

Try Curse of the Swine instead of Polymorphist's Jest; it removes creatures permanently. I would keep in Narset Transcendent as it's just a really good Planeswalker. Same with Mistmeadow Witch; the blinking can be hugely advantageous.

Scherezad what do you think could come out for Brisella? Or is it worth it even?

Sorry for the delay.I'd say that Mistmeadow Witch + Reflector Mage could get axed.

I think the replacements you are looking to make here make good sense, and definitely should go with them. Have you thought of throwing in Deadeye Navigator? Coastal Piracy would go well with your unblockable creatures, and Rhystic Study is good in any blue deck.

I like the build. I'm always a fan when a player tries to build around some of the lesser-used mechanics in the game, and an even bigger fan when it works!

JANKYARD_DOG says... #15

Alrighty, choices saved.

If only deadeye had a lower cmc flying version lol. My curve is pretty high as it is. Brago/mistmeadow will have to fill it's shoes. Piracy does seem nice, may have to find a spot for it, as does Study, it's just finding space for it. The only card I am iffy on right now (post recent changes) is Gravitational Shift because it has a bad habit of benefiting others too.

Thanks for the assist. And to anyone else reading the changes in the update have been made so you will have to try and come up with something else. I got faith in ya's ;) Or if you have a different opinion about it, feel free.

September 4, 2017 12:57 a.m.

bushido_man96 says... #16

Yes, Deadeye Navigator has a higher CMC, but its cost to activate its ability is lower, and if you pair it with the Peregrine Drake you have, you should be able to generate infinite mana. The Mistmeadow Witch is good, but it costs more to activate its ability, and it is restricted in that the creature doesn't return to play until the end of the turn. With the Navigator, the effect happens right away, and can happen again if you have enough mana, and you should with the Drake out.

I think you could pull Gravitational Shift for Deadeye Navigator, and also maybe pull Fog Bank for Coastal Piracy or Rhystic Study. Of the two, I think Coastal Piracy will be of more value in your deck, with the amount of creatures that will likely get damage through.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #17

You do make a good point. Will have to look to see if I have an extra navigator kicking about. And then acquire Piracy....given the new set you'd think a reprint was in order ... lol. Not usually an infinite fan... but could be fun ;)

bushido_man96 says... #18

Well, you don't have to go infinite, but if you find yourself in a tight spot, and are looking for a win...

This looks like a good deck, I've always loved decks with a lot of flying creatures. If you are looking for more counterspells you could try Counterspell or Disallow.

+1 from me!

JANKYARD_DOG says... #20

I love it, always enjoy finding a commander I've never seen played and make it work. It's won me a few, and is still fun even if it doesn't win. Thought I had CS in here... Will have to check again... Thanks for the plus :)

Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign has been a decent addition to my Isperia deck. Its card draw that you can easily tutor and its gives you some extra value off casting your commander.

September 6, 2017 1:05 a.m.

Gitaxian Probe Cantrip that also synergizes well with your commander.

December 14, 2017 11:58 a.m.

I like this a lot! It's giving me a bunch of ideas for my build. What are your thoughts on things like Lantern of Insight and Wizened Snitches? In theory it seems like it would be nice to also know what opponents are drawing and holding onto, but I'm not sure about how well it would actually work.

December 21, 2017 3:57 p.m.

Wizened Snitches seems too expensive at 4 cmc to me. I feel like Lantern of Insight could be good though. Who doesn't like 1 cmc cards that synergize with their commander? Searching in Gatherer has yielded some good results for cards like this. Glasses of Urza and Dakra Mystic are two that would work well I think.

December 21, 2017 5:11 p.m.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #25

Snitches and Lantern do seem interesting. Mystic would be better if there were choices for each individual card rather than either/or for the batch. Glasses are already in the deck. Thanks for the suggestions :)
