"Athena was known as Atrytone (Άτρυτώνη "the Unwearying"), Parthenos (Παρθένος "Virgin"), and Promachos (Πρόμαχος "she who fights in front"). The epithet Polias (Πολιάς "of the city"), refers to Athena's role as protectress of the city."

After Sokrates has been spoiled,

I spent some time figuring out how to make the philosopher work as a commander. He is able to stop a creature's damage from going through, and turning into cards for both participants. One could build a deck focused on disabling the opponent's damage towards us, which for my money could be the type of strategy that makes friendships go sour. On the other hand, one could also build a combat-focused deck, with strong attackers and sometimes converting their damage into cards. Piling it up with some evasion and answers, and hope that your draws eventually lead to your wincon.

...I've tried.

Now, I'm moving into a second attempt - just going back to Ephara. My old roots in building a deck that reflects my passion for ancient greek culture, and placing the philosopher in an unfortunate lower rank - but necessary for a better engine, in my opinion. Listen, Sokrates sounds amazing in paper, I just couldn't make it work. Not without turning it into a stax pile of annoyance, or without turning it into a 2k+ dollars deck that fairs just as well as the most casuals.

I'm a casual edh brewer, don't expect much here. What I'm trying to achieve with this is just a renewal of my former Ephara list, that I've tossed down the dumpster since the Paradox Engine ban, but now - a lot more into the thematic.
