The Restoration of Eiganjo

Enchantment — Saga

(As this Saga enters the battlefield and after your draw step, put a lore counter on this and activate and/or enable the ability of the saga tied to the required number of counters.)

— Search your library for a basic Plains card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

— You may discard a card. When you do, return target permanent card with mana value/converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.

— Exile this Saga, then return this to the battlefield transformed under your control.

DraconicDestruction on Zur the enchanter $100 budget

Hi. I do think that budget mana bases are a bit inefficient in tricolor, so thanks for those overall ramp recommendations (including artifacts and enchantments and especially The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip). other than the ramp, I do think that Stronghold Machinist is good, because it's reusable counter magic, and the Spy Kit + Cornered Market combo could be good against creature based decks, but I don't have a way to consistently get out Spy Kit, and as for shrines, I like the idea but almost all shrines function with a lot of shrines, so i would have to cut some other things (a zur deck focused on shrines could be fun though). thanks for the overall recommendations

Cool idea with good execution!

Not sure if you are 100% satisfied with your mana base, some stuff like Esper Panorama, Darkwater Catacombs, Skycloud Expanse, and Ash Barrens can help fix your mana, I always find Zur is a hassle to get out without stretching the budget. There are also somewhat worse options like Obscura Storefront, it's worse than Arcane Sanctum but not by a ton. I recently found out about Planar Atlas, but this looks like exactly what Zur needs to get out faster, but I do run Signets and Signet Lands, so I have more use for colourless arguably. If you're using a Sun Titan, any lands that fetch something before going to the Graveyard become pretty strong in my experience, but Myriad Landscape is hilarious if you can recur it.

Not sure if it's outside your budget, but Mirrormade is the cheapest Copy Enchantment I know of that Zur can fetch, and it can also copy an artifact, so if there is a ramp rock out Zur can find mana. Another way Zur can ramp you is The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip, which also turns into a creature. Dance of Many is a pretty interesting option if someone has a really big body out against you, not sure if you face many Blightsteels.

If you like to run Rule of Law effects in Zur, you might enjoy using a little Moderation to fuel you, it's a nice cheap card. If you can draw enough cards, Stronghold Machinist and/or Stronghold Biologist are pretty interesting cards. Obviously better with Necropotence though.

If you have Vanishing on Zur, you can fetch Out of Time to wipe the board in a shockingly thorough manner, if the board is full nothing is coming back. Obviously better if you can copy it before it goes away, but Copy Enchantment and Estrid's Invocation are both pretty pricey, and there are few things as good as copying All That Glitters. Another weird thing you could do is combine Spy Kit with Cornered Market, nobody can play creatures, if you have Zur out then you should be set.

If Propaganda or Ghostly Prison are too pricey, War Tax can be an interesting alternative, it's especially useful in a Rule of Law deck where you can't play multiple Sorcery speed spells, this lets you use spare mana to hassle whomever you want, it's non-targeted and scales with the game.

I always wonder if non-cEDH Zur decks should consider running Honden of Seeing Winds and Sanctum of Calm Waters to draw cards, Zur can find you a few other Shrines if you ever draw into a Draw engine, none better than Sanctum of Stone Fangs. I guess you'd have to decide how much work 2-3 cards per turn is worth, at least once it's set up it doesn't use more resources.

Have you thought about Dance of Many? In a more casual Zur list, duplicating the best creature on the table with Zur seems pretty good. The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip can be ramp or recursion, both of which can be worth fetching up. I think you've got enough useful bodies to look at Mother of Runes, she can make stuff hard to block or protect stuff, both are useful I find. Out of Time and Vanishing feels pretty good if there are lots of creatures in the decks you play against. Dreadhorde Invasion is a nice cheap source of bodies, and it can get big if you've slowed the game down, great to find if you've found your Ertai. I also love Luminarch Ascension to generate 4/4 flyers if I can lock the board down.

It's not very casual I suppose, but Stasis is really good in Zur Stax, especially with Smothering Tithe or Black Market Connections. You'd probably want either Reconnaissance or Brave the Sands if you use Stasis.

I play Zur in cEDH, I used to use Web of Inertia with Rest in Peace to make me immune to attacks, handy vs stuff like Eldrazi (or Najeela) where even a single swing can be a disaster, even if I don't take damage. There is also Energy Field that works with Rest in Peace fwiw. At the moment I use Solitary Confinement to be immune to a lot of stuff, and I give it Shroud via Greater Auramancy. Confinement is a bit more onerous than Island Sanctuary, but it's also a much bigger effect.

I also like using Dovescape and Malevolent Hermit  Flip (well, Benevolent Geist) to turn off a lot of my opponent's spells while not affecting my own (other than giving me birds now), all of your 'tax on attack' effects make those birds feel very bad. Hermit by itself is a pretty handy card to have down, U to counter anything big, and it's an ability so it's hard to interact with. Dovescape is a really big deal if you can resolve it, even if you don't have Geist down. If you're worried about Zur getting blocked, there are some Unblockable auras you can run, or even Thassa, God of the Sea if you want to run something really weird.

I find the card War Tax is a surprisingly relevant effect to have around when a game is going badly for me, I can sink spare mana into it to make sure a player cannot swing, technically at anyone. You can use the card as a politics piece, taxing anyone who won't agree to attack who you choose, which is a very annoying ability to have. Duelist's Heritage and Michiko's Reign of Truth  Flip are nice ways to help close a game out with Zur.

Grasp of Fate is a really funny card Zur has access to, it feels like one of the 'they made this card for Zur players, didn't they' cards. The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip is probably worth a look, at it's worst it's an enchantment that finds you a land drop, it's ability to recur anything small can be useful (and can be land ramp in white) as well, and the body it becomes is just big enough to matter.

If you want a cheap source of bodies, Haakon, Stromgald Scourge can reanimate any knights, including Changelings. If you Final Parting for Haakon into the Yard and Nameless Inversion you can recast Inversion for 1B as many times as you want, potentially killing lots of stuff. If you use Haakon, you should look at ways to discard him incase you draw into him. I have run Avenger en-Dal to decent effect. Bloodsoaked Altar is a sneakily good card if you can stand to discard. Body Snatcher isn't super-cheap, but it's a ton of value and can discard Haakon. Bog Witch can turn any card into a Dark Ritual, which helps since your deck has a lot of Black costs. Devout Witness is handy if you don't want to run Disenchant because you need more creatures. Icatian Crier makes 2 bodies fwiw. Skirk Ridge Exhumer makes nifty bodies. The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip not only makes bodies and discards, it also can recur something small, it can even ramp you if you recur a land. Undertaker is much cheaper than Tortured Existence, it's not as good but it's still solid. This isn't an exhaustive list, but these are some options if you want to try out Haakon.

If you use Haakon and something like Pawn of Ulamog or Sifter of Skulls, a sac outlet and Universal Automaton to get infinite death triggers. If you use a Knight that costs B to cast, there is Bog Initiate to fix. There are better things you can do than this, but this is pretty budget. If someone tries to exile your combo pieces, you can always sacrifice them to send them to your graveyard instead.

Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire is a pretty reasonable tutor, and if you need to, you can find an effect for someone else to use (hopefully to your benefit, like a board wipe or removal spell). Eye of Vecna is nice cheap card draw. Strands of Night is a cheap repeatable recursion source, something that is worth a look. Casting of Bones is pretty solid draw if you can count on having creatures you want dead, 3 cards is a lot for 3 mana.

DreadKhan,

Energy Flux: I did heavily consider Energy Flux when creating the deck, but ultimately decided against it because it doesn't fit my style. I think it would be dangerous to wait a full 4 turns using just land to get Zur out, however, that does not mean it may be worth using rocks and destroying everyone's artifacts after Zur is out. Also, it is important to note that sacrificing does not "destroy" a permanent, but simply places it in the graveyard; thus you would still need to pay Darksteel Ingot's cost (here it is on the Wiki https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Indestructible, under the "description" section). However you're still right, it is a good card in this deck and I think it would fit nicely, especially against any artifact decks. I don't doubt how good it is; maybe I'm just baby for being too scared to kill my own artifacts.

Dreamscape Artist: Hmm, it is definitely tempting. However, I think it would be better to use enchantments to guarantee land drops. It's for that reason that I included The Birth of Meletis and The Restoration of Eiganjo  Flip, and I have been debating the necessity of Blanket of Night.

Dance of Many: This looks to be a really fun card. Although it would be sad to commit to an opponent's creature and have to kill your own if you need to remove it. I'll keep an eye on this one should I feel like changing things up.

Ash Barrens: Seems like a shoe in to me. It's cheap and as you said, it fixes mana if necessary. Personally, with 48 mana (land + rocks) in this deck already, I think mana fixing won't be much of an issue.

Retreat to Coralhelm: Yeah, this one is a bit out there. Considering that there is already a lot of draw enchantments, it would seem like a bit of a waste to scry. As for tapping creatures, Zur should be unblockable sooner or later as well as have vigilance.

Darksteel Ingot and Skyclave Relic: These are both good cards, and do better than the cluestones and Sol Grail. I think Darksteel is cheap enough to throw it in without question.
