Crow_Umbra Thank you so much for you suggestions! This REALLY helps me out a lot!

Aurelia, the Warleader is already included in the deck, maybe you missed this? Do you think, cutting Raiyuu, Storm's Edge and adding Karlach, Fury of Avernus is still good? Or should i consider to add something else in this place?

Dolmen Gate is definately a Card i am going to add in the future! I didn't know this was existing^^ Awesome!

All your other Suggestions speak for themselves. Thank you so much!

The recent Aurelia Multiverse Legends reprint is such a huge benefit to budget decks. I know your overall budget is $75, but do you have a budget per card? I have a few suggestions within budget that I think could push your deck a little more without breaking the bank:

  • I think you can probably cut Heiko Yamazaki, the General and Raiyuu, Storm's Edge you currently have 5 Warriors & 3 Samurai in deck. From playing Isshin extensively this past year, you definitely want to be attacking with more than one creature per combat haha. Solo attacking usually only happens in early game or after recovering from board wipes.

  • Since you already have Duke Ulder Ravengard and Hammers of Moradin, you could lean a bit more into Myriad. Hammers of Moradin is one of my favorite cards in my list, and usually punches above its weight. Some other Myriad creatures you could include are Genasi Enforcers and Elturel Survivors.

  • To pair with Myriad and your creature token production in general, I'd recommend getting in some ETB damage effects like Corpse Knight, Impact Tremors, and/or Witty Roastmaster. This helps get some damage in "around" defenses, and softens up opponents even further for when your creatures connect.

  • I think Delina, Wild Mage could be an eventual swap/upgrade to Flamerush Rider. Yes, you can Dash out the Rider, but the copies that Delina makes are not Legendary, which can have a higher ceiling on doubling up those triggers you typically wouldn't be able to.

  • Karlach, Fury of Avernus could be a budget-ish (less than $10) swap for Raiyuu if you want another extra combat effect. Karlach doesn't even need to attack, she just checks if you are attacking.

  • Breena, the Demagogue or Karazikar, the Eye Tyrant could be potential swaps with Glint-Sleeve Siphoner. Both are a blast, and add some fun political wrinkles to games while helping you (and opponents) draw cards. They're high risk/high reward. Breena can help grow herself or your other threats, and Karazikar can help deflect aggro away with Goad.

  • Lastly, I'd recommend Gruesome Realization as a swap for Faithless Looting. Yes, Looting is cheap & has Flashback, but it isn't super helpful in this deck since you're not utilizing your graveyard as a resource. Gruesome Realization has helped me cut down other opposing creature token boards in a few games, or drawn me cards if I wasn't playing against those types of strats.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Overall your deck has decent synergy, but I think a handful of the suggested swaps can get it a bit more honed in. Hope you have fun with Isshin, he's a blast.

Hey there, I saw your post on Reddit and figured I'd leave my suggestions here. I think for the most part, the majority of the deck is solid, but you can likely swap out Heiko Yamazaki, the General, Asari Captain, Peerless Samurai, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Selfless Samurai, and Tempered in Solitude, since all of those only care about solo attacking Warriors or Samurai, or solo creatures in the case of Tempered in Solitude. From having played Isshin a lot, the deck wants to swing out with more than one creature a lot of the time, and these cards all feel at odds with the rest of your deck.

Some potential swaps that can still fit your budget:

  • Scapegoat - Mana efficient and budget friendly board protection. I had this in for a while before Clever Concealment was printed.

  • Signal Pest - Very solid one drop for just about any Isshin list.

  • Accorder Paladin

  • Genasi Enforcers

  • Rakdos Signet - Your ramp is a little light, 1-2 more rocks can help.

  • Soul Partition - Pulls excellent double duty as a either a removal piece or can protect one of your permanents.

  • Elturel Survivors - Something I've wanted to find a slot for in my Isshin deck, but haven't been able to.

  • Scrappy Bruiser - A new piece of tech from MOM that's meant to synergize more with Backup, but can be a pseudo protective piece here.

I think you can probably cut Raiyuu, Storm's Edge and Peerless Samurai since they're both narrow in focus compared to the rest of your deck.

If you like Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, I'd recommend checking out Tori D'Avenant, Fury Rider. Zhentarim Bandit is also a neat 2 drop option, especially since its trigger is a "may" ability, letting you opt in or out of the trigger as you'd wish.

Adriana, Captain of the Guard and Professional Face-Breaker are also both helpful if you plan on swinging at multiple opponents each combat.

I hope the suggestions are to your liking. I'd be happy to offer additional feedback if you'd like.

Im really not a fan of the battle cry mechanic. It could work really well with Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, Mardu Ascendancy, or the other many token makers, but I would rather just run Fervent Charge. It takes a single card for +4/+4 and your creatures are more likely to survive combat. you could always stack more though

Vengeful Ancestor, Parasitic Impetus, Shiny Impetus, and maybe Martial Impetus could all be fun tools to mess with your opponents while keeping yourself safe from larger threats. You get double rewards with Isshin

Guild Artisan, Curse of Opulence, and Sword of the Animist are options for ramp.

Fighter Class is nice for the tutor and later on can force blocks and can be used to kill off weak targets.

Shadowspear exists. you should use it in every deck Helm of the Host lets you double commanders, and lets you go infinite with Godo, Bandit Warlord. Who also should just automatically be your automatic first pick for a 6 drop. Tutor, double combats...

Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder doublestrike AND lifelink. costs one more but can replace your enchantment.

Ilharg, the Raze-Boar Wanna play two cards for free?

Breena, the Demagogue does so much. buffs you like crazy. Can net you two cards per combat phase... which you will hopefully get multiple of with more things like: Aggravated Assault and Waves of Aggression can go infinite Port Razer, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Response / Resurgence are also nice

Agent of the Shadow Thieves and Fey Steed protect your commander or other attackers, and the steed may also come out even against removal.

You dont need to go all out on making one guy and instakill, Sublime Archangel with many tokens or Pact Weapon with combats can do it by themselves situationally. And the pact weapon is just way too cool.

Selfless Samurai is free lifelink and protection you can save for your commander. Cathedral of War is just going to be free power every once in a while

Hopeful Initiate is repeatable removal with extra steps I'd honestly ditch the sunforger.

Thank you!

Your suggestions are appreciated, especially for Elder Brain, I totally forgot about that one even though I just recently got a promotional Elder Brain! Dumb! Brainless! Elder Brainless!!

However, World at War has been kind of a polarizing card for me in this deck. On one hand I like it, and it should totally fit. On the other, I thought it wouldn't function as well as it should, like it would stack with other cards like Scourge of the Throne or Raiyuu, Storm's Edge because of their "if it's the first time they attacked, there's another combat phase" and I was thinking it would override World at War, either the first time or in the Rebound effect.

I don't know what I was thinking. Brainless! Obviously I was being dumb, and going over it again my head I don't even understand how I had come to the previous conclusion.

Now I just have to fit it in! Thanks!

So, I think why your deck isn't ranking so high is a lot due to your having so many basic lands in the deck.

Aside from that, you have very few creatures in the deck, and many that you do have don't do things that other similar cards can do far better, or can't effectively be doubled by Isshin.

Take, for instance, Ankle Shanker. All of your creatures gaining deathtouch and first strike is cool and all, but doubling that with Isshin doesn't actually do anything. Focusing your deck to actually get double triggers that result in true doubling would increase your deck's effectiveness.

Other creatures you have, like Skyknight Vanguard, drop a single token creature. Two, with Isshin. However, a creature like Hero of Bladehold gives +1/+0 to all creatures, and drops 2x token creatures ... or, with Isshin, gives everything +2 power and drops 4 tokens. Yes, this creature costs like $9 to buy, but that's because it does great things and is far more efficient, not to mention it's lower mana cost, and that's how you a deck can be rated as more competitive.

It may help for you to possibly add more Samurai to your deck. It appears, with all the equipment and few creatures, that you want to attack in smaller numbers anyhow, and Samurai can help you benefit from that. You have Godo, Bandit Warlord, but the only samurai you have is your commander. Guys like Raiyuu, Storm's Edge might be more efficient for you (and he's cheap).

Personally, I'd try to find ways to fit in cards that would allow you to draw more, or at least some recursion.

Cards such as Response / Resurgence, Unburial Rites, Ancient Craving, Sol Ring, and Opal Palace are all cards you could get pretty easily and they could immediately benefit your deck.

If you'd like any other suggestions, or inspiration, please take a look at my own Isshin deck:

While the concept of loading the deck with as many extra combat steps as possible seems the way to the go, it actually reaches a point of saturation. The issue with Raiyuu, Storm's Edge is that he requires +attack, forms of evasion, & we need to have ways to keep him protected. Having additional combat steps is rather pointless if Raiyuu isnt able to do anything besides force players to chump block with their worthless 1/1 token or something.

Dont really see the purpose of Godo, Bandit Warlord outside of beinga 6cmc tutor. While the equipment comes onto the battlefield, it doesnt equip. Godo's additional combat is only good when he attacks, so it doesnt sync well with our commander. I could see him being useful as a Plan B voltron if Raiyuu, Storm's Edge gets removed too many times for a recast, so I will keep that in mind.

I used to have Aggravated Assault but I replaced it with Waves of Aggression since AA is very cookie cutter & honestly requires to make sure you get some value. Because AA draws in tons of hate & most likely is going to be removed or is going to provoke the table to player remove you. Waves of Aggression is more unique, gives us instant value, & is replayable with us discarding unwanted lands which we can repeatedly grab with an activated Land Tax or Archaeomancer's Map

I recently added Blackblade Reforged and will add Two-Handed Axe at Baldur's Gate release so that we can close out games much faster. As honestly all you need is 2 combat steps if Raiyuu, Storm's Edge is well-equipped.
