Selfless Samurai

Creature — Fox Samurai

Whenever a Samurai or Warrior you control attacks alone, it gains lifelink until end of turn.

Sacrifice Selfless Samurai: Another target creature you control gains indestructible until end of turn. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy it.)

Hey there, I saw your post on Reddit and figured I'd leave my suggestions here. I think for the most part, the majority of the deck is solid, but you can likely swap out Heiko Yamazaki, the General, Asari Captain, Peerless Samurai, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Selfless Samurai, and Tempered in Solitude, since all of those only care about solo attacking Warriors or Samurai, or solo creatures in the case of Tempered in Solitude. From having played Isshin a lot, the deck wants to swing out with more than one creature a lot of the time, and these cards all feel at odds with the rest of your deck.

Some potential swaps that can still fit your budget:

  • Scapegoat - Mana efficient and budget friendly board protection. I had this in for a while before Clever Concealment was printed.

  • Signal Pest - Very solid one drop for just about any Isshin list.

  • Accorder Paladin

  • Genasi Enforcers

  • Rakdos Signet - Your ramp is a little light, 1-2 more rocks can help.

  • Soul Partition - Pulls excellent double duty as a either a removal piece or can protect one of your permanents.

  • Elturel Survivors - Something I've wanted to find a slot for in my Isshin deck, but haven't been able to.

  • Scrappy Bruiser - A new piece of tech from MOM that's meant to synergize more with Backup, but can be a pseudo protective piece here.

Im really not a fan of the battle cry mechanic. It could work really well with Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, Mardu Ascendancy, or the other many token makers, but I would rather just run Fervent Charge. It takes a single card for +4/+4 and your creatures are more likely to survive combat. you could always stack more though

Vengeful Ancestor, Parasitic Impetus, Shiny Impetus, and maybe Martial Impetus could all be fun tools to mess with your opponents while keeping yourself safe from larger threats. You get double rewards with Isshin

Guild Artisan, Curse of Opulence, and Sword of the Animist are options for ramp.

Fighter Class is nice for the tutor and later on can force blocks and can be used to kill off weak targets.

Shadowspear exists. you should use it in every deck Helm of the Host lets you double commanders, and lets you go infinite with Godo, Bandit Warlord. Who also should just automatically be your automatic first pick for a 6 drop. Tutor, double combats...

Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder doublestrike AND lifelink. costs one more but can replace your enchantment.

Ilharg, the Raze-Boar Wanna play two cards for free?

Breena, the Demagogue does so much. buffs you like crazy. Can net you two cards per combat phase... which you will hopefully get multiple of with more things like: Aggravated Assault and Waves of Aggression can go infinite Port Razer, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Response / Resurgence are also nice

Agent of the Shadow Thieves and Fey Steed protect your commander or other attackers, and the steed may also come out even against removal.

You dont need to go all out on making one guy and instakill, Sublime Archangel with many tokens or Pact Weapon with combats can do it by themselves situationally. And the pact weapon is just way too cool.

Selfless Samurai is free lifelink and protection you can save for your commander. Cathedral of War is just going to be free power every once in a while

Hopeful Initiate is repeatable removal with extra steps I'd honestly ditch the sunforger.

You managed to hit the land balance pretty much dead on--nice work! Unfortunately, I think you have a few too many lands. A good rule of thumb is to have 36-40 lands in a Commander deck, depending on speed and mana requirements. Since I don't see many non-land mana sources, and since you want to get a land drop every turn to reach the higher-cost cards, I recommend dropping to 39-40 lands.

Isshin, Two Heavens as One wants a lot of attack triggers, anything that says "Whenever such-and-such attacks...". You have some good choices with Kitsune Ace, Selfless Samurai, and Imperial Recovery Unit, among others, but there are more out there. If you can find cards like Campaign of Vengeance, Goblin Traprunner, and Gleam of Battle, or even Brutal Hordechief or Fervent Charge if you're willing to spend the money, you'll push this to the next level.

I also suggest finding some cards that let you draw more, like Greed or Read the Bones. is a good color for this, but and have been getting more options recently. Top deck effects like your Abbot of Keral Keep are also useful in the same way. This will help keep your attacks moving and apply pressure to your opponents.

Finally, look for some direct removal, like Terminate, Rip Apart, or Vindicate to get rid of problems and threats your opponents put out. Dokuchi Silencer and Explosive Entry are the right idea.

This isn't the right deck for Sky-Blessed Samurai, with only three enchantments. You'll be paying full cost for it most of the time, occasionally getting a one-mana discount, and its stats aren't good enough to justify the cost. Save it for a more enchantment focused deck where it can reach its full potential.

Finally, you could use some more one-mana cards so that you have more options on turn 1 besides play a land and pass.

Overall, this looks good. You have solid card interactions, a good combat theme and Vehicle subtheme, and a strong foundation. Play it, test it, tweak it, feel out what you like and what might be improved, and above all, have fun!
