Palace Guard with Ghostly Possession or Spirit Mantle is another pain in the ass stall tactic for creature reliant decks that are more agro based too, but you do eventually have to pick something, that a deck might be weak too.

You might try Celestial Crusader in place of Phantom General . I would also try to find some alternatives to Last Breath and Ghostly Possession - maybe Pacifism or Collective Effort ? (Not spirit cards, but still spooky looking.) You could also try a few copies of Intangible Virtue with all the spirit tokens.

First of all, I really like Spirts and I've built a very similar deck that I've had success with.

So I'm going to make some initial suggestions with explanations. My advice is coming from playtesting this deck for months and months. That being said, it is YOUR deck so feel free to play however you like!

What I believe you should take out:

Here's what I think you should add:

And here are my reasons why:

  • You want to cut down on Auras. Drawing an Aura without having a creature to equip it to feels really bad, it's a dead card. This deck should be creature-focused, all about beating your opponent down with Flying spirits occasionally buffed up with Auras; not the other way around.

  • Sovereigns of Lost Alara is a great card, but most opponents won't let you survive until you have 6 mana. This deck wants to end things very, very quickly. A Geist of Saint Traft equipped with Steel of the Godhead is a very fast clock, you really don't need to go to turn 6.

  • Without the Sovereigns, Eldrazi Conscription is also pointless.

  • Daybreak Coronet is a great card, but unfortunately it cannot be searched by Tallowisp's effect. There is a ruling that states Tallowisp can only search for cards that say "Enchant Creature" on their first line with no other words in that same line (so things like Steel of the Godhead are fine). But Daybreak Coronet says "Enchant creature with..." so unfortunately it cannot be searched.

  • You liked having the option to stall the game with Kaijin of the Vanishing Touch and Ghostly Possession, well let me tell you about Selfless Spirit and Gift of Immortality. Selfless Spirit can sacrifice itself at any time to give your whole team indestructible, so they can freely block any creature or survive damage or destruction. It's a great effect, but a Selfless Spirit enchanted with Gift of Immortality can do this EVERY TURN and there's very little your opponent can do to get out of this lock. I'd highly recommend this change above all others I've listed.

  • Swords to Plowshares because you need some reliable removal in case you run into a creature that's just giving you a lot of trouble.

  • Curious Obsession keeps your hand filled; the last thing you want is to run out of steam.

  • I'd recommend exchanging 1 Drogskol Captain for another Spell Queller. Once you have a Steel-enchanged Geist on the field, you should try to save mana for Spell Queller, because your opponent might try to kill it with a mass removal spell like Supreme Verdict. You need to be able to stop things like that with Spell Queller.

This deck could very easily be converted to Modern if you want, just switch the Brainstorm to Serum Visions or Opt and Swords to Plowshares to Path to Exile and you'll be set (but that's up to you).

Feel free to look at my deck here: Immortal Geist

I've written some pretty detailed stuff so you can get a good understanding of the deck.

As for your sideboard, I'll take a look at the Legacy metagame and get back to you, but good luck with your deck!

Respledent angel is standard playable I think. And if there is a little more support lifegain could be a viable strategy against red decks since we also have Ajani's Pridemate back.

I am beyond excited that we are getting a new cycle of elder dragons. Bolas is interesting to me since its in colors that normally like to control the board but is more of an aggressive threat. I really want to build a brawl deck with him but I have a feeling I will be hated out just for using it.

Vaevictus Asmadi is also a fun commander/brawl candidate in a group slug style deck. however a 6/6 flier for 6 in three colors that does nothing when it hits the board doesn't seem fast enough in standard where we have red aggro decks running rampant.

Palladia Mors is a rather interesting design space. While her ability ensures that she will deal combat damage to either a player of creature once before potentially being targeted you could argue you are still paying 6 mana for 6 damage. Where I am curious is if there are enough effects in the game to maybe build a commander deck where all I need is to get her in play then benefit from effects like Triumph of Ferocity. Or perhaps using Sandskin or Ghostly Possession somehow? I don't know... I feel like there might be something there is I can find a payoff.

Can't wait to see the rest.

In a gist, less removal, more ramp, creatures and lands.

This is a solid deck. It really has some power in some places. The trick is getting it to be cohesive. Right now there doesn't seem to be a real solid theme or focus which makes the deck unwieldy during play. It wouldn't take much to fix this, though. I think it would be a good idea to focus on getting Athreos out and then playing value creatures and forcing opponents to make the decision on whether or not you get to play those creatures an additional time.

Cards to pull: Removal - You have more than enough in here so you can cut some of the less effective (more restrictive) cards like Divine Verdict, Pillar of Light, Ghostly Possession, Reprisal, Murderous Cut, Arrest, Suppression Bonds, Doom Blade or Armament of Nyx. (I put the cards in order of what I would think is best to pull to worst to pull). I would generally stay away from creature based removal here because you want to increase the number of creatures you have in the deck.

Other - These are cards that kinda just take up a slot. They're generally not bad, but they kinda pull this deck in directions that don't help the deck win like it should. These include Raise Dead, Baneful Omen, Edge of the Divinity, Cutthroat Maneuver, Erebos's Titan, Nighthowler, Pontiff of Blight, and Hopeful Eidolon. I hesitate to put the creatures on here cuz I think it would be best to have more creatures than fewer but these ones are good things to cut if you're looking to make more room.

Cards to add: Generally, I'd try to slot in some more ramp cards like Sol Ring, Orazca Relic, Orzhov Signet, Commander's Sphere, Solemn Simulacrum and the like. Also you could do with more card draw. For instance Dusk Legion Zealot, Ambition's Cost, Read the Bones, Hedron Archive, etc. And then put in some more quality creatures. Maybe they should have etb or death effects like Merciless Executioner, Fleshbag Marauder, Demon of Dark Schemes, Elenda, the Dusk Rose, Blood Artist, and more. Or maybe they're just solid creatures like Bontu the Glorified, Cataclysmic Gearhulk, Crested Sunmare, Urgoros, the Empty One, or Vona, Butcher of Magan. Maybe even a couple more board clearers like Crux of Fate, Bontu's Last Reckoning, Fumigate, or Hour of Revelation

Essentially, this deck has the structure to be real strong. It just needs some focus and a few upgrades to really get where it wants to go. Hope this helps.

maybe Ghostly Possession to equip Palisade Giant with. Who said damage?

Pop a Ghostly Possession on wall of glare and block everything each turn with that one guy!

anyway, a mix of effects like Indestructibility, Gift of Immortality and Ghostly Possession on things like Palisade Giant. Pariah also works like a charm. Don't underestimate Gift of Immortality on Children of Korlis either.
