your average CMC is 2.83, i don't know if the three talisman and 2 signet are really worth it.

  1. I would swap the 5 of them for something similar to Mirkwood Bats that you already have.
  2. Agate Instigator for extra damage whenever you create a token
  3. Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon + Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim + Blood Artist
  4. Warleader's Call is a nice addition also since you already have All-Out Assault
  5. Isshin, Two Heavens as One to trigger additionnal Mobilize/Myriad.
  6. Feel free to look at my version Mardu, meat token dispenser

Looking like a pretty solid list with lots of card advantage and ramp, and a fantastic mana curve to boot. Where this list could use some improvement is in the interaction category; 4 spot removals and 2 wraths is a bit too low, and makes you vulnerable to solitaire-style decks like combo or spellslinger.

Some cards that immediately come to mind are Thalia, Heretic Cathar, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire. The first two are cheap legendary creatures that impede ramp decks, haste decks, and spellslinger. Eiganjo, much like Witch Enchanter, is a sort of modal card that can serve as a land or removal if need be. Kambal, Consul of Allocation punishes spells-heavy lists hard. Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle recurs fodder on cast, which means that even with an otherwise empty board, you can get something from your yard for your legendary creature to sacrifice.

Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares are the best bang for your buck removals white has access to; I'd make room for them as well.

Other random suggestions:

Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim adds incidental life loss and gain as you're generating and sacrificing stuff. Bonus points for being legendary and a cheap rattlesnake effect.

Teysa Karlov unfortunately doesn't double up exploit triggers, but it does buffer your tokens defensively and double up any non-exploit death triggers.

Nasty End is a cheap synergistic one-shot card advantage effect.

Primevals' Glorious Rebirth is a solid way to bounce back from a boardwipe, or just outright recur everything you've lost over the course of the game.

Orzhov (black and white) would be my recommendation. You have Eriette of the Charmed Apple, Kambal, Profiteering Mayor, Kambal, Consul of Allocation, and Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim. All of which drain your opponents while gaining you life. Each has a unique way of winning without swinging.

Second best options could be golgari's Dina, Soul Steeper or Slimefoot, the Stowaway for Aristocrats build. Izzet (red/blue) or any spell slinging deck with a bunch of Guttersnipe effects are also solid.

Some black cards to consider, Hissing Miasma effects (of which there are many), Koskun Falls, or potential blanket protection effects such as Grave Pact or No Mercy.

Green has Elephant Grass and plenty of death touching deterants.

White has Peacekeeper and Sphere of Safety.

Blue has Dissipation Field and Propaganda.

Red has Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs plus all of your Guttersnipe effects as mentioned above.

You can easily make a deck that kills (or mills) people to death without ever swinging. Just depends on the flavor you want to do the murdering with.

Vessiliana on What is a Man? (a hyper aggro Edgar Markov EDH)

YamishiTheWickedOne, definitely! One-drop vamps are Edgar's bread-and-butter. I myself like to run over 40 creatures for Edgar, and I am finally getting a hold of a Warleader's Call for mine, which is brilliant in a list with a lot of really cheap vamps. If you are leaning harder into the one-drops, then the damage-on-entry becomes even more effective, not only the Warleader's Call and Impact Tremors but even Purphoros, God of the Forge. It puts the opponents in a tight spot because those little guys have already hit them just by entering, then can swing with buffs, and even ping on their way out, whether through Goblin Bombardment or something like Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim.

Why?

The focus of these changes were to increase the token generation ability of the deck. Many of the removed cards interacted with cards that have been killed/allowing me to profit off of the death of tokens/creatures. Often, this would lead to me having a board of creatures that Caesar couldn't make use of which would stall my boardstate.

11 Card Changes

Creatures

-1 Alesha, Who Smiles at Death: Limited Graveyard recursion that didn't do much for many of my creatures

-1 Athreos, God of Passage: Tokens are what mainly die in my deck and those can't be in my hand

-1 Deathgreeter: Hard choice to make with this one, but at the end of the day, I wanted to remove this aspect of the deck. I don't care as much about longterm survivability if I can win early.

-1 Desdemona, Freedom's Edge: Similar to Alesha and Atheros

-1 Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim: Another hard choice to make, but I want to focus on tokens entering the battlefield and the attack phase rather than sacrificing and graveyard.

-1 Morbid Opportunist: Good card but similar to Elas, I want to focus on ETB and Attacking rather than killing

-1 Paladin Elizabeth Taggerdy: I don't want many of my creature cards attacking and honestly the CMC of many of my creatures doesn't make this card worth it

-1 Pitiless Plunderer: Same as Morbid

-1 White Glove Gourmand: Ended up being a card that read: 4 mana create 2 humans, which is not ideal

Artifacts

-1 Ashnod's Altar: Never really panned out how I wanted it to, make room for better cards

Enchantments

-1 Battle of Hoover Dam: Choosing NCR runs into the same issue as Alesha and Desmonda, choosing Legion is fine but also not amazing. I would rather buff all my cards or keep them small to help with McCready

Creatures

+1 Hero of Bladehold: Great consistent token generator, and it creates soldiers

+1 Iroas, God of Victory *list*: Keep my tokens alive and able to consistently hit face against tall boards

+1 Karlach, Fury of Avernus: I LOVE this card, similar to Isshin being able to trigger Caesar's ability multiple times per turn is super strong. Also, I have many other attack phase triggers

+1 Myrel, Shield of Argive: Better Hero of Bladehold + Grand Abolisher, this card is a no brainer. Plus it has soldier synergy

Enchantments

+1 Anointed Procession: Stupid to not include this card in a white token deck

+1 Court of Embereth: This card is STRONG, consistently generates targets for Caesar to sacrifice if needed, and it does Caesar's strongest ability automatically every turn. Also Monarch is fun and I can consistently fight to keep it.

+1 Warleader's Call: Purphoros and a static +1/+1

Instants

+1 Grand Crescendo: At worst, it's 2 mana to make my board indestructible, at best it generates tokens for me

Sorcerys

+1 Finale of Glory: Token generator

Artifacts

+1 Mana Vault: More fast mana!

+1 The One Ring: Card draw plus protection from everything

Raven_of_Arella on Vamp/Bats

Hi basedgubbs! If you are new to Magic the Gathering then welcome! I love that your first deck idea is based around bats and vampires as the vampires are what drew me into Magic! I don't want to throw too much at you in this comment but want to help get you on the right track so you can craft this deck how you want.

Sticking with the white and black cards making up your deck so far, I would switch out your commander with a white and black color identity (Elesh only allows for white cards to be in the deck). Some of my recommendations in no particular order are: Commissar Severina Raine, Baron Bertram Graywater, Elenda, the Dusk Rose, MacCready, Lamplight Mayor, and Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim. I think any of these could prove useful in building lots of bats and vamps!

I would also recommend taking out 20 lands (10 Swamp and 10 Plains) and splitting those 20 slots into Instants/ sorceries/ enchantments/artifacts.

Here are just some card recommendations for generating bats and vampires: Regal Bloodlord, Lunar Convocation, Call the Bloodline, Bloodline Keeper  Flip, Timothar, Baron of Bats, and Aclazotz, Deepest Betrayal  Flip. A couple cool cards that might be fun for winning are: Mephidross Vampire Malakir Bloodwitch.

Wishing you the best on your journey with MtG and happy crafting!

legendofa on Why Do Soul Warden-Type Effects …

I think it's mostly because the other cards have other synergistic effects on top of life gain.

If you break Soul Warden into

  • "Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life.

  • Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under another player's control, you gain 1 life."

and replace the second sentence with a different ability, changing the mana cost as needed, you get Prosperous Innkeeper, or Guide of Souls, or Distinguished Conjurer, or Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim, or whatever.

I would say it's mostly to diversify the ability while keeping it in the 1-2 mana range and reducing reliance on opponents to help.
