Nicol Bolas, Bookish Hipster

Commander / EDH

blitheringFool

Whenever I see a white bordered card among all the pretty black-bordered cards, I wince a little bit. So what better idea than to build an entire EDH deck out of white-bordered cards?

Thinking I was the most hipster bro in all of magic, I set out to build a deck full of white-bordered cards. Since creatures pre-8th Ed were on average much weaker than the creatures in the modern era, I settled on a control deck of sorts. The best chance to have a deck that wasn't completely unplayable was to use a three color commander so I settled on our dude Nicol Bolas. Before he was bent on taking over the Multiverse, he was just a bookish hipster, content on staying at home, reading and drinking his matcha.

The deck focuses on board interactions, with a small theft/clone/reanimate package and a removal/counterspell package. Typically discard is not strong in multiplayer, but since OG Bolas causes mass discard, I added a few cards that play into that theme. There's even a bit of a Stax Lite (TM) package to slow the game down a bit to bring it back to that Premodern era many remember so fondly.

There are a number of upgrades that I may make to the deck after I play it a few times, and could probably stand to add some more counterspells or some bounce spells here and there.

I haven't been playing EDH very long, and this is my first take at Grixis and at control, since I tend to stick to battlecruiser and aggro strategies frequently. I am open to suggestions!
