So a friend of mine has this love of janky ideas and fun decks. He built mono white griffins after seeing
Griffin Canyon
for the first time. Unyaro griffins carrying batterskulls were seen. Plays were made. Recently he came through with the ultimate troll deck. 99 mountains and ashling. I dismissed the idea until i saw him beat a fully pimped thraximundar deck with the little lorwyn crap rare. The guy was mad. We giggled. Then I thought "you know, norin was a crap rare until gaka (praise the lord, render unto thee, blessed Norin) came along.". After much deliberation and even more wine, we came up with this list. It features 61 lands, 54 of them white bordered mountains because we are evil people. This is intended for 1v1, and i'm basically looking for gems i've overlooked and feedback on the list. Do not suggest removing more than 5 mountains. this deck wants consistent land drops even more than asuza.
Card selection.
LANDS
Opal Palace allods us to cast ashling without wasting mana if we have an odd number of lands, with the added benefits of making her huge, as she dies often.
Cavern of Souls is set to elemental to ensure we have uncounterable critter removal, our general, artifact hate and land hate at our fingertips when using the evokers.
Valakut should be self explanatory.
Haunted Fengraf
allows us to reset our general for less mana in the lategame, and offers creature recursion where we lack it.
CREATURES
Flamekin Harbinger may be the best creature in our deck. Being all in on ashling means tuck effects are crippling. This allows us to get ashling back if we lose her. It also enables a good toolbox with. Faultgrinder,
Ingot Chewer
and
Spitebellows
. It also fetches
Soulbright Flamekin
if we need to punch through chump blockers.
Siege-Gang Commander is a bit of a filler, but he's been stellar in testing. Burning utility dudes one at a time means we can ramp ashling up more. It also burns the opponents, attacks, and provides 4 chump blockers. An all-around great creature.
Magus of the Moon: the fact that moon effects autowin against some decks and cripples almost everyone else means this guy makes the cut. He is very squishy, though.
Zealous Conscripts is one of the most versatile cards in there. No, we don't go infinite with it. We can, however, steal your huge eldrazi, your planeswalker, your car and your children. Stealing a sword of X and X, equipping a 7/7 ashling and beating ends games.
INSTANTS
Molten Disaster: nothing like pairing this with braid of fire and our doublers to wipe out an opponent. With SPLIT SECOND. It is also an uncounterable wrath.
Chaos Warp is our weapon against opposing voltrons as well as the only enchantment removal red has.
Reverberate is an effect I want in this deck, considering our X spells are awesome. Copying counterspells is clutch. Reiterate might be better, but holding up 2 is easier due to ashling's active.
SORCERIES
Jaws of Stone
and
Spire Barrage
are our finishers that double as removal. In the 54 mountain deck, they'll routinely hit for 10-12. Good value if you can fork them.
Gamble is the closest we get to a real tutor, and it's another way to get back ashling. Gamble+Devil's Play is neat too.
ENCHANTMENTS
Braid of Fire lets us pump a lot of mana into ashling and molten disaster, but I'd really like to give it more support.
Smoke helps against the weenie/token lists, as we can safely ignore the drawback.
Repercussions+Ashling the Pilgrim, blqsphemous act,[molten disaster]]
ARTIFACTS
Druidic Satchel lets us gain life, play moar lands and chump block. Seeing as we have spare mana, this is a great role player. Explorer's Scope does basically the same. 60% land means we're almost always hitting.
Basilisk Collar and ashling is a dream team. Killig anything is great but gaining hundreds of life is a nive bonus. Especially when it still damages the opposition's life total.
Sword of Fire and Ice and Akroma's Memorial serve two purposes. Granting ashling evasion so we can punch through damage and protection from red. Ashling with pro red means we can go HAM without having ashling die. It's no darksteel forge/disk, but hey.
PLANESWALKERS
Tibalt is a troll inclusion. The looting effect is cool, especially in the flooded hands. He'll draw removal away from ashling if anything or soak an attack.
This is the premier deck for Koth of the Hammer. His ultimate is gamebreaking and his -2 means we can play him and keep ashling going. His +1 makes a decent garruk impresssion.
Chandra Nalaar
is criminally underrated. Seeing as ashling clears boards fast, shell often be left unchallenged to ping, ult and -X utility guys.
