Codie: Slime Against Humanity

Commander / EDH Budget Casual

This is a janky combo deck inspired by a deck piloted by Richard on MTGGoldfish Commander Clash. See the YouTube video below.

To start the combo, you simply need your commander, Codie, Vociferous Codex to be in play without summoning sickness and a single Slime Against Humanity in your hand. Now activate Codie's ability and then play your Slime to "cascade" into a sorcery or instant with mana value 2 or less. There is only one option in the deck, so you will always find Test of Talents. With the original Slime still on the stack, use the Test of Talents to counter the Slime and exile any number of your Slime Against Humanity cards from your library (you should likely keep any copies already in your hand and graveyard). Let's say you exile 38 of them. The next Slime you cast will then come into play with at least 40 +1/+1 counters (possibly more if you already had some in your graveyard). From that point forward, every single Slime you play represents lethal.

You can then use Codie's ability using the deck's 4-mana spells to "cascade" into the remaining Slimes still in your deck. Outside of Hagra Mauling   (which is included as a useful 4-mana spell that is also a land), all the spells in the deck require only one pip of any single color, which is intentional since Codie's ability produces exactly . This means as long as you have 4 mana of any color combination to activate your commander, you can then cast any spell in your hand. Again, the 4-mana spells are guaranteed to find a Slime after pulling off the Test of Talents combo. Among my favorites are Goblin War Party and Heroic Reinforcements to give your giant Slime haste, Mandate of Abaddon to wipe the board of pesky blockers, and Vanish into Memory which can be used either to remove an opponent's creature or to target your own Slime to draw a bunch of cards - it's even at instant speed so you can cast it in response to your Slime getting killed.

The deck also runs a few powerful 5-mana spells for card more draw: Return of the Wildspeaker, Hunter's Prowess, and Soul's Majesty. With a 40-power Slime in play, these will draw the bulk of your remaining deck, allowing you to get past all the lands still in your deck and find your remaining helpful cards. Even if you don't pull off the combo, they can still draw a respectful amount from the many Slimes you will cast naturally. Plus if you cast them off Codie you can "cascade" into another spell.
