The Challenge!

Somehow run Ayula, Queen Among Bears as our commander, plus all 20 mono-green Bears, and still win lots of games.

Gameplan

Bears are like giant furry potatoes. They're bad cards. Like, truly abysmal wastes of paper. They're an albatross on the deck (as if being mono-green wasn't bad enough).

They're also bears, which is cool. We like bears.

Did you know an adult Grizzly bear can weigh up to 1,700 pounds? Because the bears are big meaty hunks of blank text, the rest of the deck is no-holds-barred to compensate. If it's legal in Commander, and helps carry these massive furballs to the finish line, it's going in the deck.

This deck tries to make the best possible use of the bears for turning them into fodder for, well, anything:

  • Ramp: Gaea's Cradle, cards which search for Gaea's Cradle, Earthcraft, Cryptolith Rites, Tangleroot
  • Draw: Beast Whisperer, Shamanic Revelation, Beast Whisperer, Regal Force
  • Fodder: Survival of the Fittest, Eldritch Evolution, Birthing Pod,
  • Win condition: Craterhoof Behemoth, Shaman of Forgotten Ways, Finale of Devastation

Some of the cards in this deck fulfill specific purposes. These include:

  • Crop Rotation, Reap and Sow, Tempt With Discovery: These get Gaea's Cradle, Deserted Temple if you already have it, or Petrified Field if it's been destroyed
  • Deep Forest Hermit drops a lot of bodies on the table at once, which can be useful for Earthcraft, Cryptolith Rites, or Craterhoof Behemoth. It also serves as the Birthing Pod chain to Soul of the Harvest, Regal Forge, and Craterhoof Behemoth
  • Paradox Engine is absurd in general, but has particular synergy with Birthing Pod
  • Voyaging Satyr untaps Gaea's Cradle, and multiple cards untap Voyaging Satyr
  • Sensei's Divining Top works with Vizier of the Menagerie and all the deck's tutors

Lines of play in the deck include:

  • Tutoring for Beast Whisperer when we need draw early
  • Tutoring for Regal Force when we need draw later
  • Tutoring for Shaman of Forgotten Ways or Craterhoof Behemoth to win the game
  • Setting up cost-reducers like Emerald Medallion or Tangleroot plus a draw engine like Beast Whisperer or Vizier of the Menagerie

Mulligans: You need some sort of ramp. The longer the game goes on, the more board wipes will be available to your opponents, and it'd be sad if all our bears died. You don't need a lot of land. 1-2 is fine if you have other mana sources to back them up * Ideally, you have at least one source of card draw, including tutors which can get Beast Whisperer or Regal Force

Ferocious Fun

Winning with 20 bears will be no picnic. This certainly doesn't koala-fy as a CEDH deck. But with carefur play you'll maul your opponents beclaws this deck is all you need!
