plakjekaas That's possible. But to me, Battle - Duel or Battle - Riot or Battle - Skirmish or whatever seem more like instants or sorceries, or maybe enchantments. Alpha Brawl, Spectacular Showdown, Massive Raid, these all share that flavor space (and I wish I could come up with some non-red examples off the top of my head). All of these could potentially be reprinted as story spotlights in some future set, like Renewed Faith from Onslaught to Amonkhet.

Conflict is everywhere in a game about conflict, and I'm sure I'm thinking too small, and biased by what we have now instead of what could be coming in the future. Looking at current story spotlight cards, some that I would consider as flavorfully battles are Battle at the Bridge, Battle for Bretagard (these even have Battle in the name), Eiganjo Uprising, Hostile Takeover, Hour of Glory, Mage Hunters' Onslaught, Rampage of the Clans, Storm the Citadel, and The Fall of Kroog. These can easily be thematically redesigned as battle cards.

So I'm not saying you're wrong, but those types of events just don't fit my current mental picture of a battle. That's why I said battles probably aren't a strictly necessary addition to the game--they're mechanically new and interesting, but what flavor space can they carve out for themselves? Or will they simply take over this flavor space, and we're going to see less major-combat-themed cards of other types?

I'd move Sundering Growth the sideboard and cut Renewed Faith. If you want/"need?" lifegain, then Soul's Attendant/Soul Warden seem like the obvious choices.

Increase the number of lands to 23, including Castle Ardenvale and possibly Hall of Heliod's Generosity.

I think you need more token spells for Slate of Ancestry to be worthwhile. Tezzeret's Gambit is among the best draw-card spells you can get in mono-white. Unless you want to spend the big bucks on Esper Sentinel.

Anointed Procession seems like a good fit, though even pricier than the Sentinel.

How about instead of Renewed Faith you add Chaplain's Blessing? Much cheaper MV, and almost as good. Also, Chaplain's Blessing gives just enough life to trigger Resplendent Angel. I would also get rid of Emeria's Call  Flip as it's mana prohibitive, and replace it with Angelic Accord; Angelic Accord is useful with Chaplain's Blessing and Bishop of Wings. When you use Angelic Accord, then trigger it with Chaplain's Blessing, And, Righteous Valkyrie is another with Angelic Accord, considering that the token's toughness is 4, and even with Bishop of Wings it adds 4 more life, which makes for triggering Resplendent Angel. Also, I would definitely exchange Lyra Dawnbringer with Shalai, Voice of Plenty. The latter protects with hexproof, which is great against many types of threats, especially counter/burn decks. I would also get rid of Starnheim Unleashed with Starnheim Aspirant.

Interesting Idea. Add Exquisite Blood to infinite ping opponents with Sanguine Bond or Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose . I would add Fountain of Renewal , Nyx-Fleece Ram and or Ajani's Mantra to gain life each turn. You don't need to ramp if you include Chaplain's Blessing , Renewed Faith or even Tavern Swindler . These can make Licia cost only .

I really like this theme, I have a similar one called Angel cleric lifegain from which I’m drawing suggestions.

The way I see it your win-condition is “gain lots of life and then attack with Angel of Destiny ”. So you need to gain lots of life.

I would go 4-of Righteous Valkyrie and Speaker of the Heavens , and add 4-of Bishop of Wings as another method to gain life when angels enter the battlefield. Then, I’d consider some cards for gaining life. Revitalize and Renewed Faith are both good, but I really love Rest for the Weary because you can easily turn on your Speaker on turn 2 and then start pumping out angels.

Other cards to consider include Resplendent Angel to add another angel each turn, Boon Reflection or Rhox Faithmender to double lifegain, or perhaps even Entreat the Angels as an alternative win-con that will also net you life if you have one of the many “gain life with angels” out on the battlefield.

As I see from your forum post, you've realized that Angels needs ramp, and badly.

I'm going to go over a couple card suggestions, and then I'll cover what I think the deck needs to become solid.

First, lands -- you're mono white. You can run some fancy lands.

Castle Ardenvale is absurd here. It's literally a Plains but better. Run the playset, unless you can't fit it into the budget.

Field of Ruin -- 1-2 copies. You choose. You will need some, just because lots of players are running Castles, and it helps against them.

Angel of Vitality. You need smaller angels, and this thing fits the bill perfectly. It does everything you want. I'd probably cut Oketra's Monument and Queen's Commission for a playset of these.

Now, to make this deck good, you want it focused. That means two things -- you want every card to work towards one goal, and you want a really good curve. You've got a solid start here, but you need some changes.

First, you should almost always be running 6-8 turn one plays, and removal doesn't count. Not that you have Path in Pioneer, though. You really only run 3, and Chaplain's Blessing sucks. You should run the playset of Fountain of Renewal and a playset of Prism Ring. Both of those will help stack lifegain. Lose the Blessings, they're too weak.

You should run the playset of Revitalize. Also, Renewed Faith. I like Bishop of Wings here, it'll trigger a lot of lifegain. get the 4th.

If you add 4 Angel of Vitality, and fix your curve, this would be a legitimately scary deck to face up against. Not necessarily tier 1, but it'll be a significant threat.
