Shredded Sails Discussion

I would probably sideboard the other two Shredded Sails, but also put in some Raking Claws, for those matchups when Shredded Sails will have no targets, which you should be able to figure out by game 2, if not 3.

Light up the Stage and Robber of the Rich are good card advantage, but they don't fuel your grave for phoenix antics later.

Thrill of Possibility and Cathartic Reunion fuel the hand and grave, and just got reprinted in Theros and Ikoria respectively.

Footfall Crater can get cycled into phoenix gas, or essentially give you the option to pay a mana to speed up creatures (damage) in the mid-game. Go for Blood can also remove a problematic blocker before combat damage, and combos with Torbran and Infuriate.

How about Everquill Phoenix?

Shredded Sails for sideboard.

Crazy Idea Footnote: If you add the cycling cards, you could also add a couple Unpredictable Cyclone. As the name states, it is unpredictable, but gives you relevant card advantage in the late game. Because it's not legendary, you can even have multiple out, and benefit from the effect multiple times: e.g. Cycle Footfall Crater with Unpredictable Cyclone on the board, you'll either get to cast another Footfall Crater or Unpredictable Cyclone for free (assuming those are still the only enchantments in your deck)... Now you have two of them, and the dual freecasting begins. Oh, what's more, you also threw some more phoenix fuel in the grave in the process. Now that's a spicy meatball.

Great list you've got going. I love the spell-slinging for value approach you've taken. I have a couple budget additions for you if you like.

I suggest swapping Scrap for Shredded Sails. I love the original Urza's artwork and card frame, but the new artifact hate is more modal and costs one less to cast if you need to.

Also, you don't have a lot of alternative ramp cards like Dockside Extortionist and Smothering Tithe. If you're on a budget, I suggest putting in the Talismans and pulling Myriad Landscape as its just too slow. Also, Migratory Route cycles to color fix you, but it only gets a basic and is practically unplayable. If you're going to keep a landcycler in, I suggest Sanctum Plowbeast. Granted, it's not exactly playable either, but it cycles for a "Plains" or an "Island", so you can go grab a basic or your Irrigated Farmland or your Prairie Stream or your Raugrin Triome, or any other fetchables that you end up putting in the deck. You might also consider putting in something to slow your opponents down like Kismet or Frozen Aether.

Seriously consider keeping Curator of Mysteries in for top deck filtering when you cycle. You could put Crystal Ball in instead, but Curator works with the cycling theme. We all would love to stick Sensei's Divining Top in our decks, but $$$$. Also, if you have Decree of Silence, put it in. At it's floor, it's a free counterspell with Gavi or New Perspectives, and at its ceiling, it eats your opponents next three spells.

I also suggest Hall of Heliod's Generosity to put Decree or Astral Drift or any of your other enchantments back on top of your library. If you're gonna run Akroma's Vengeance and Dismantling Wave, you should have a way to get your enchantments back.

Savai Thundermane isn't necessarily cost effective. I would suggest pulling it for the new Drannith Stinger. Ping ALL of your opponents for free when you cycle, rather than paying two to hit one target. If you're worried about targeted removal, don't forget you have Lightning Rift which does the same thing as Savai for one less mana and is much less likely to be hit by a wrath.

Have you play tested this yet? I've always found both Niv-Mizzets prohibitive in casting. Brallin, Skyshark Rider  Flip and Glint-Horn Buccaneer work very similarly with Curiosity and Ophidian Eye, are far less prohibitive to cast, and with how fast this deck draws, you should have no problem getting to 8 cards.

Let me know your thoughts!

Why do you need Escape Protocol? The best-case scenario you can flicker a Crystal for neutral mana, but with no ETB effects I don't think it's worthwhile. I think you probably don't need Reptilian Reflection or Ominous Seas, either, because they're slow and/or awkward. If you cut them, you'd guarantee hitting Shark Typhoon or a second Unpredictable Cyclone by cycling either enchantment, which is definitely more powerful than getting a free Ominous Seas.

I'd suggest cutting the above, freeing up 7 slots, and adding some of the following:

+2/3 Boon of the Wish-Giver - 1-mana cycler, and if you run 2+ you can guarantee hitting the other copies off of Unpredictable Cyclone which is... better Ancestral Recall!

+1 Drannith Stinger, because it makes sure you hit Yidaro, Wandering Monster off of Cyclone.

+1/2 Shredded Sails, which is very good at the moment against Luminous Broodmoth, Witch's Oven, and it cycles anyway.

+1/2 Scorching Dragonfire to help survive early and hit Planeswalkers like Tef3ri

Good luck have fun!
