Zenith Flare
Instant
Zenith Flare deals X damage to target creature, player or planeswalker and you gain X life, where X is the number of cards with a cycling ability in your graveyard.

You should play the Scourge Decrees. Most powerful cycling cards. And maybe Zenith Flare

I was looking around for a deck to build that uses Shark Typhoon because I keep finding them in the packs I buy. I came across yours and I like the idea of using Unpredictable Cyclone in conjunction with it. It allows you to cheat out more expensive spells pretty effectively, while still creating a shark army. On that note, I would completely revamp the spells you have chosen, aside from Neutralize and Boon of the Wish-Giver , because they need to have cycling to trigger this awesome effect. I do really like Narset of the Ancient Way for this deck. I would remove Teferi, Time Raveler unless you decide to use more sorceries, like Essence Fracture .
- Zenith Flare will be the first obvious choice. It refers to cycling and grows in power rapidly as you cycle things, however it will only grow until the first Unpredictable Cyclone drops, so I am not sure.
- Rescind would be a solid choice, especially if you are running some counterspells.
- Complicate and/or Countervailing Winds seem like some decent choices if you want more counterspells.
- Sweltering Suns and/or Starstorm could replace the damage classic Shock .
- Cast Out could almost directly replace Banishing Light with a cycling equivalent.
- Lay Claim to steal the best of your opponent's forces.
- Astral Slide and/or Astral Drift might be useful, depending on the deck you end up with.
In any case, I love the basic concept and enjoyed trying to think about some synergy for it.

The problem with the Zirda companion combos is that all I've seen do cycling then Zenith Flare .
If I got rid of those two cards, I could have Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest and maybe some other card?? The Akroan War is only useful if their P/T has less T than P, which means I can get rid of Rollick of Abandon . And Truefire Captain isn't absolutely necessary.
With Zirda, I can use Soulfire Grand Master 's ability for only 2 mana to bounce my instants and sorceries. That's really all I can use Zirda for, though. Kind of a waste of trading one crappy strategy for another.

For , is there any way to tie stone/rock into a unique focus? There are a lot of cards in that theme and color combination - Chained to the Rocks , Earth Servant , Nahiri, the Lithomancer , Calciderm , etc. It seems like a good place to develop, but I have to admit, I can't think of anything for this theme that isn't combat oriented.
In a game about combat, the two colors with a biggest focus on direct confrontation combine to make a set dedicated to direct confrontation in combat. They've gotten some other tricks with Outlaws' Merriment and Zenith Flare , but not much.
Here's a thought: self-sacrifice tricks. is willing to sacrifice itself for its community. is willing to sacrifice itself if it's exciting enough. I can envision a red-white card that says something like "Creatures you control have 'Sacrifice this creature: something something damage something protection from whatever.'" They have the small creatures to make it pay off. It might be moving into a little bit, but that's happened before, most obviously with Smiting Helix . To quote DemonDragonJ, what does everyone else say about this? How do you feel about getting self-sacrifice tricks as a unique non-combat ability?
kpres on Cycle the deck, and destroy everyone

Fortunately, these two commanders trigger off of drawing and discarding, so you don't have to limit yourself to just cycling. This is great, because although cycling has been around since Urza's Saga, the number of cards available to you are fairly limited.
During Pro Tour in the Onslaught days, there was a fairly successful cycling deck that made use of Astral Slide to prevent opponents' creatures from being able to attack, and Lightning Rift to ping for damage. The big finisher was Decree of Justice.

Recently, Ikoria has given us Zenith Flare.
Since you're going to be filling the graveyard with spells or permanents with cycling, I would recommend Mizzix's Mastery and cards like Open the Vaults.
Any cycling deck is going to be weak on the board state, because you'll be spending your mana on discarding cards rather than playing stuff, so you're going to want to run lots of board wipes. It won't be a fun time for the other players, but if you want it to be polished, that's what you're gonna have to do. Also cards like Ghostly Prison and Propaganda.
I'm really interested in this deck, and I want to see how it goes, so I'm going to upvote and follow it. Good luck!

Sinfernoo on Does Zenith Flare count for …

Hey, so the thing i'm super curious about, that I couldn't find anywhere else, is Zenith Flare. To put it simply, does it only do the damage for cards with the ability itself, "Cycling" or any card that has an ability about cycling like Snare Tactician ? How the card reads: Zenith Flare So the card reads to me, as if it's any card with an ability about cycling because it doesn't state "... where X is the number of cards with the ability, 'Cycling'." I'm confused because i've seen other cards state the specific ability. (No example because I can't think of one off the top of my head) Hopefully someone/more than one person can confirm if it's just the ability itself or any ability having to do with cycling, essentially. Thanks in advance!
SynergyBuild on MTGA kinda sucks lately, no?

As someone who thrives in solving and breaking formats, and building brews against them, I love the spread of info on MTGA, playing Zenith Flare after mill took over I am hitting a 96% winrate.
If you don't like Arena, don't play it. I love the environment that it has!
