Renewed Faith Discussion

GoodLuckGuy on The Knights Who Say NII

Alrighty Then

Fist of all, your mana curve is WAY too high for your land base, with this sort of mana cure, you should be at 22 lands at the ABSOLUTE least. Even with a drastically lower curve, you'd still probably need 17 lands at least. Either way, You really shouldn't be running anything over 4 mana.

Here's a list of quick and easy changes.

@RowdyMagic18, thanks for the idea! I agree that Depala, Pilot Exemplar will definitely help to both ramp up and restock my board. See the updates for what I dropped. Thanks again!

@ZeldaThornley, Acrobatic Maneuver is definitely a step up from Renewed Faith. Although it lacks cycling, I do agree that it will be more valuable in triggering revolt, and the card draw is a given, not one or the other. Thanks so much for your feedback!

Neotrup on Question about countering abilities

Abilities that can be countered are activated abilities and triggered abilities that are not mana abilities.

An activated ability is easily identified by the presence of a colon (:). Some keyword abilities are activated abilities with the colon in the rules defining them, which may or may not appear in reminder text. Examples of this in standard are Crew, Cycle, and Embalm. Loyalty abilities are also activated abilities, in the form of "Add or Remove the appropriate number of loyalty counters: Do this."

For an activated ability to be a mana ability it must have the potential to add mana to a player's mana pool, cannot target, and cannot be a loyalty ability. Examples are the abilities of Llanowar Elves, Spectral Searchlight, or Pristine Talisman.

A triggered ability can be identified by the starting word "When," "Whenever'" or "At." Some Keyword abilities are triggered abilities whose rules text start with one of these words, though reminder text may or may not include them. Some examples in standard are Ingest and Afflict.

For a triggered ability to be a mana ability it must trigger from the activation of another mana ability and have the potential to add mana to a player's mana pool. Some examples are the abilities of Mana Flare, Wild Growth, or Overabundance.

An ability doesn't have to be from a creature, or even a permanent to be countered. Disallow can counter: the cycling ability or triggered ability from cycling of Renewed Faith, though it will only counter one ability, not both; the on cast trigger of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger; the activation of a Embalm or Eternalize; or any number of other activated or triggered abilities.

Also TheBatchCode you can cycle Renewed Faith on your opponents turn for your extra horse and bluff it like it's a counter spell so your opponent may not cast what they intended to.

mario390 - As I said before, I still need to test this deck a bit more. I do appreciate the suggestion and I have decided to replace 1 Renewed Faith and 1 Nimble Obstructionist in favor of 2 copies of the Illumination. I do prefer Censor as the 1 cost cycler in this deck, and will try out this new list to see how it goes.

Cheers,

This is my favorite horse deck so far! The only thing i could think to add since you have some sideboard room is Renewed Faith Cycle it for extra card advantage and life gain for the horse. If they sideboard a Dispossess or something similar on your Aetherflux Reservoir the life gain would be lacking.

ViperDuck99 Sideboarding is a bit difficult in this deck, yea, but it all depends on what you're up against. When you're up against control you may want to board in the 3 Negate and 2 Dispel. You may take out the cards you don't really need. Like a couple copies of Haze of Pollen and Renewed Faith, even a copy of Traverse the Ulvenwald. Your aggro matchup is pretty solid with the main already, but if you feel you need the help, you can side in the 2 Archfiend of Ifnir and the 2 Fumigate. Siding out pretty much depends on the deck you're against.

I would cut a Myriarch for another Servant of the Conduit, the more ramp the better. I would also cut Renewed Faith for another Nissa. You may also want to playtest some Fogs like Commencement of Festivities and Haze of Pollen in the side as angels tend to be slow.
