Renewed Faith Discussion

I think I have an even better idea, which i have to say is inspired from the deck Tainted Love.

Tainted Remedy and Beacon of Immortality kills an opponent. But you can still run a cool WB deck with Renewed Faith, Condemn, Alms Beast, Swords to Plowshares (if you can cards from outside the modern pool).

It seems fair, cheap and sweet to do.

Hey, this look good, I like this version. I like the combining of the control for the early game with the midrange Angels for the mid and late game. I also like the idea of clones with Angels, Vizier is an underrated card, but Mirror is only good here with Resplendent and Vizier is only good with Resplendent or copy an opponent's creature. Because of this I'm not sure if Mirror is worth including.

Unfortunately, coping Lyra or Shalai with a clone isn't good. You can't control two of the same Lyra or Shalai on the battlefield at the same time. For instance if copying Lyra since both Mirror Image and Vizier of Many Faces make an exact copy of Lyra including the legendary creature's name then the legendary rule applies when you copy Lyra. You can copy Lyra, but then you have have choose one and the other dies. Can't have two of the same Lyra or Shalai in your control at the same time.

Adding blue with Angels for counterspells is good, but blue also gives you draw and dig which is something that white lacks. Consider Anticipate and Supreme Will? There's some set-up required here to get the most out of the Angels. Anticipate or Will can help to find Lyra who is really the most important card for the strategy. Will for instance can be a counterspell or a dig spell turn three having this versatility is helpful. Both these spells can help to make your land drops each turn; making a land drop each turn until turn five to play Lyra.

Consider Cast Out instead of Binding? The cycling of Cast Out is really good for white because white lacks draw options. I also like that Cast Out is instant which is helpful in current Standard where there's so much powerful haste creatures and Heart of Kiran. Binding is a good sideboard card, until rotation I think Cast Out is more beneficial main deck.

A card I think is being overlooked with Resplendent is Renewed Faith. It seems good you can play it for three mana to gain 6 life and make a 4/4 Angel at the beginning of end of your end step or most importantly because it's an instant at the beginning of your opponent's end step. That's one of the most powerful parts of Resplendent's ability it can make an Angel at the beginning of both end steps as long as you gained 5+ life during the turn. Three mana at instant speed to gain 6 life and get a 4/4 Angel is pretty incredible value in aggro or midrange matchups. Faith is also another cycle card for white, more draw as well as life gain.

The big benefit of these clones is if the creature you copy has an ETB ability then the cloned copy gets this ETB ability. Good with Shield Mare and Sunscourge Champion, these creatures gain life when they ETB.

Have you been following some of the reveals from Guilds of Ravnica? One reveal is new artwork of Aurelia, the Warleader. Looks like she's going to be a big part of Boros Legion guild in the set. The GRN set symbol also looks like her pointed helmet, she could be a big part of not only Boros by the entire set. I can imagine that new Aurelia with Lyra and Resplendent is going to be great midrange fun :)

Perhaps think about brewing a Boros version of Angels to prepare for Guilds of Ravnica? Azorius is unfortunately not a guild in Guilds of Ravnica have to wait until Jan. 2019 for Azorius.

Good luck with your deck.

Your curve seems a bit steep, m8.

I would go:

-1x Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip

-1x The Eldest Reborn

-1x Profane Procession  Flip

-1x Hour of Glory

+1x Fatal Push

+1x Vraska's Contempt

+2x Renewed Faith

My first thought is that you're not taking nearly as much advantage of Licia's cost-reduction ability as you could be. Lands such as Wind-Scarred Crag and Bloodfell Caves fix your colors, and their enter-the-battlefield-tapped drawback is mitigated by the fact that the lifegain makes Licia cheaper the turn they enter play. Radiant Fountain is basically a Dark Ritual in this deck!

Other lands to consider: Seraph Sanctuary - Springjack Pasture - Kabira Crossroads

On a similar note, look for cards that give you an effect on top of gaining you life. Pristine Talisman effectively taps for two in this deck. Zuran Orb can give you a turn-3 Licia all by itself. Renewed Faith can either power out an early Licia or cycle in the late game for (essentially) zero mana. Vraska's Contempt essentially exiles any creature or planeswalker for the bargain price of BB. And so on.

Hey there! You have a decent start to a budget control deck but I have a couple pieces of advice for you if you're willing to accept them.

The biggest thing is you need to add more lands. 21 lands is not enough to consistently curve out into everything you want to play, especially since you're win condition is a 7 mana spell. Most control decks run around 26 lands to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.

I'm not a huge fan of Healing Grace and Renewed Faith since they both effectively stall but do not fix the problem (whatever creature is hitting you is still alive). I would try putting in more cards like Gideon's Reproach or the Ixalan's Binding I see in your sideboard since those remove the threats rather than delaying those threats from killing you a turn or two.

The last thing I'd recommend is to try adding a little more card draw since you want to find answers and you definitely want to get to your Approach of the Second Sun as fast as you can once you've cast it.

Either way I hope you have fun!

The best way to improve this deck would probably be to take out a lot of the low impact cards, like:

Ritual of Rejuvenation (one shot, doesn't really do much)

Renewed Faith (same thing)

Valor Made Real (if you want this effect, get an enchantment that does a similar thing, like High Ground, Brave the Sands, or a creature with this ability, like Palace Guard or Guardian of the Gateless)

Retreat to Hagra (Really slow, especially for 40 life).

Cards I would consider adding that are still pretty budget:

Soul's Attendant (since you have Warden)

Greed / Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip are great in EDH.

Wretched Confluence has a lot of good modes and is an instant.

Sacred Mesa is good in a slow, grindy deck like this to keep chumping or eventually fly over for victory

Definitely don't run 4 Felidar Sovereign. You're going to want some card advantage engines as well, I'm a fan of Thraben Inspector and Ranger of Eos. Rest for the Weary and Chaplain's Blessing are not good cards. If you insist on running cards like that, I'd suggest Ritual of Rejuvenation and a cycled Renewed Faith as they replace themselves and let you dig deeper. Ajani Goldmane may be a planeswalker for you. I'm always in favor of more interaction, so i'd suggest cards like Oblivion Ring, Declaration in Stone, and Blessed Alliance. Dusk // Dawn might be a good sideboard card for you, while it hits a flipped rider, an ascendant, and a big kitty, it clears any meaningful blockers your opponent has and gets all your creatures (except the sovereign) back.

Mentor of the Meek could also be good

This isn't really the type of deck I usually play, but I hope it was at least a little helpful

I like the idea of the deck +1 from me, however I feel like Dusk // Dawn would be better replaced with either Fumigate or Settle the Wreckage as these are both more powerful and the synergies with hostake taker probably isn't enough to play a lesser board wipe.

I think Treasure Map  Flip could see a place in the deck, as its a powerful card doing 2 things you want, finding your approach or finding other cards to control the board until making sure you dont die to aggro, and also enables you to flip it on turn 5 enabling a turn 5 approach, using the treasure it creates.

I know you have a lot of removal, but with red aggro decks everywhere at the moment you may want to include some form of lifegain in the mainboard, my suggestions would be Renewed Faith, Battle at the Bridge or Vraska's Contempt. (Fumigate also provides some protection with its board wipe and lifegain ability)).
