Renewed Faith Discussion

Khunjund on Lich's Approach to the Glorious Trials

Considering the heavy colour requirements of the cards in this deck, I think you should strive for a manabase that looks something like this:

1 Clifftop Retreat

4 Concealed Courtyard

4 Dragonskull Summit

4 Evolving Wilds

1 Forsaken Sanctuary

4 Isolated Chapel

1 Mountain

2 Plains

3 Swamp

This would slow down your mana rather significantly, however, which would be a problem with your current mana curve, but which brings me to my second concern: it seems to me like this deck doesn't have a clear game plan. Your creature lineup suggests a low-to-the-ground aggro deck, but then you have cards like Renewed Faith and Approach of the Second Sun, which seem more fitting for a control deck. I get that you want creatures so you can do something with the extra turns you get out of Glorious End, which is why personally, I would go for more of a mid-range creature curve and put Lyra Dawnbringer in the main. (Also, since Approach of the Second Sun is just a secondary win-condition, I'd probably keep only one copy.)

Yeah, cut them altogether. Renewed Faith and Sanguine Glorifier are overcosted. Fan Bearer and Festering Mummy provide minimal benefit, so I think it's better to just replace them with higher value creatures. Squire's Devotion is a middling card that competes with better cards (e.g. Mavren Fein, Lord of the Accursed) for the 3 CMC slot.

Wow, I had no idea how poorly I was operating in the department of insanity and adventure. I'll get right on stepping up my game

I would more heavily utilize white in this list. Cards such as Ixalan's Binding and Seal Away are really good in any sort of control list. In addition, because you're running Mastery, cards like Renewed Faith become very good in lists like this. Finally, another finisher that combos well with Mastery is Lyra Dawnbringer. I have a strict control list that's worked pretty well for me if you'd like to check it out for ideas!

You should not run Solemn Offering. Four life is inconsequential--particularly since you are going to be sideboarding in your artifact/enchantment removal against a combo deck which really is not interested in how much life you have. Further, it is at sorcery speed and costs more than Disenchant.

Couple other changes after looking at your decklist:

I would argue Anguished Unmaking is a better card than Vraska's Contempt. It can remove any permenant and costs less. The life loss is inconsequential.

Instead of Sanguine Sacrament and Renewed Faith, consider adding cards like Thoughtseize to your mainboard. You are at your opponent's mercy in the early game--until you have no cards in hand for Ensnaring Bridge or enough copies of Ghostly Prison in play to protect yourself, you're going to be in some trouble. Thoughtseize and its ilk will allow you to remove your opponent's early threats before they actualize.

Personally, I find 3 copies of Ensnaring Bridge and three of Ghostly Prison to be the sweet spot. Ghostly Prison becomes less useful as the game draws on, as eventually your opponent will be able to play his or her bombs and have a bunch of lands sitting about on their next turn. Ensnaring Bridge, on the other hand, is useless in the early game. 3 and 3 ensures you have the maximum chance of drawing the pillowfort card you need.

You might want to sideboard a card that gives you hexproof so that you have some protection against burn. Your lifegain cards will never be sufficient--lifegain spells are vastly less efficient than burn. Leyline of Sanctity is obviously the best option, but Aegis of the Gods and Shalai, Voice of Plenty are also options (though burn will just hit them with a kill spell).

SereneTsunami Might as well just keep the Renewed Faith

My friend gave the deck over to a streamer (Papa Smurf the Mind Sculptor), and he went like 5 and 1 (or something) with the deck. He only lost to a Teferi Planeswalker Dominria deck. He's thinking about splashing blue in it to make it more control oriented. I'm neutral on the blue splashing. This streamer has Arch of Orazca, Field of Ruin, and has some other differences in his variant. I feel not so strongly about those cards, but they might work out just fine. He also only ran two Mastermind's Acquisition which made me kinda sad. He also ran Moment of Craving instead of Cast Down which I thought was a mistake again; b/c of control reasons. Its nice it gives you life, and potentially some cards, but I think Cast Down is much better. He did have some good sideboard help though. He did give me the idea to run Renewed Faith which was very solid. He did not like my idea of Sanguine Sacrament but that's his taste. I personally love drawing insane amounts of cards and the recursion it brings however.

Maybe include 2 copies of Vanquisher's Banner mainboard since you have a strong tribal theme? I'd also add 1 or 2 copies of Combat Celebrant. Maybe a 2/2 split with Champion to keep down the non-dino count.

Maybe go down to 2 Commune, 2 Ranging Raptors, and 3 Sheltering Light to bring in a 2/2 split of Kinjalli's Caller and Priest of the Wakening Sun or a 1/1/2 of Snubhorn Sentry, Caller, and Priest. You should have some 1-drop bodies against aggro.

Shake the Foundations seems like too expensive an instant here if you want to cast a creature or two every turn. Maybe swap them out for 3 copies of Abrade?

Sideboard should have a few low-cost, instant artifact hate cards and some life gain like Renewed Faith. Maybe a Trapjaw Tyrant. A few more broad answers like Baffling End, Settle the Wreckage, and Ixalan's Binding.

I hope those suggestions make sense. I am not a Standard player, so I apologize for any obvious mistakes, but my recommendations are in-line with what I know about constructed tribal decks :)

Have fun!
