I haven't gotten the chance to play with Strixhaven yet so I'm not 100% on this, but at face value, it looks like the wording for Fractal creation was specifically chosen to differentiate it from most other 0/0 creatures that are buffed upon entry. The difference is that something like Clockwork Beetle enters "with" its counters while something like the Fractal from Fractal Summoning enters without the counters and they are then "put" on after entry. Therefore, the Beetle would enter as a 2/2 and trigger evolve on a 1/1 Fathom Mage while a fractal on x of 2 would enter as a 0/0, not trigger the evolve, and then get its 2 counters added. ( Elemental Bond 's trigger is worded nearly identically to the reminder text for evolve and should thus work the same too.) What can be confusing about this at first is that the Fractal must then temporarily exist as a creature with no toughness. This isn't a problem because even though state-based actions check to see if a creature is at 0 or less toughness and cause it to die if it is, SBAs aren't checked in the middle of the resolution of spells and abilities. By the time they get checked when someone would get priority again, the token will already have its counters despite not having them on ETB. This lets the Fractal survive. I mean, assuming you didn't add 0 counters at least.

Firedrinker Satyr might be another "screw you" creature to trade. Clockwork Beetle also comes to mind a possible fit. And there's also Bronze Bombshell , but that one's high CMC makes it a less than ideal candidate.

Your AVG CMC is pretty high and you're missing counterspells, so those would be the two biggest issues I see for you going forward. It can be hard to make room for counterspell in a deck like this, especially when mana is in high demand. But it seems like having a Role Reversal countered or fizzled with hexproof/protection would make winning difficult.

any thoughts on Lorescale Coatl?thinking of creatures to add to your early game, possibly Steel Wall? 4 toughness could evolve some guys and hold off some early attackers.

other options include:Aquastrand Spider, Bond Beetle, Chronomaton, Clockwork Beetle, Cosi's Trickster, Experiment One, Kavu Predator (SB), Mistcutter Hydra (SB), Mold Adder (SB), Nurturer Initiate, Primordial Hydra, Protean Hydra, Quirion Dryad, Scavenging Ooze (SB or Main), Shape Stealer (super goofy with +1/+1 counters), Slitherhead, Vastwood Hydra, Vinelasher Kudzu

if you decide to go down the "hydra" road, i would recommend Gyre Sage for added mana production/sink value.

Just a lot of random suggestions. Don't use most of them.Consider Abbot of Keral Keep, which might help with casting more cards.Acidic Slime/Bane of Progress/Big Game Hunter//Duplicant for removal. Agent of Erebos for dealing with graveyard stuffs. Is that even an EDH thing? Anarchist/Archaeomancer if you like your instants and sorceries. Aspiring Aeronaut/Attended Knight/Beetleback Chief b/c they make tokens. Baleful Strix is just a really good card. Clockwork Beetle: 2/2, 1/1, 2/2, 1/1, 2/2, 1/1. Cloud of Faeries can help: You can get it into your graveyard while drawing cards, then play it to add mana. Crovax the Cursed//Dracoplasm can get things in your graveyard, especially things that make tokens that you can get again. Deceiver Exarch might be decent. Elgaud Shieldmate for protection; you can give anything you control hexproof. Elvish Pioneer might be good ramp. Epochrasite is also a pretty good card. Evangel of Heliod b/c you have a lot of white mana symbols.
