Bulwark

Enchantment

At the beginning of your upkeep, Bulwark deals damage to target opponent equal to the number of cards in your hand greater than the number of cards in his or her hand.

so, a couple of suggestion enchantments:

Bulwark & Dark Suspicions: deals damage to each opponent equal to the difference in cards in hand between you and them. pair with Painful Quandary for ultimate pain

Rain of Gore and Tainted Remedy are good substitutes for the "no gain life" effects. because watching Oloro decks kill themselves with their passive is hysterical

  • Playing a deck like this will inevitably lead to your opponent without much of a hand.
  • This will leave the spells that damage your opponent for discarding mostly useless.
  • At the same time, this means anything they happen to come across, they will play almost immediately, meaning your discard strategy won't be nearly as effective.
  • The Rack type effects are best for this kind of deck.
  • Examples of viable rack type cards are Paupers' Cage , Skullcage , and Bulwark .
  • You are already using these in the forms of Lavaborn Muse and Hellfire Mongrel
  • Black Vise type effects could be useful if you plan to force feed your opponent, but since you're making them discard, I don't see much point in that.
  • If your goal is to discard, running mill cards isn't going to help your strategy. You're reducing the deck's consistency by including them.
  • You're going to want to run Painful Quandary simply due to its taxing nature.
  • Lastly, you have a lot of mana rocks, but no artifacts that serve any utility, and more questionably, no Chromatic Lantern . While you have some X and higher cost spells, all that mana could be a dead draw, especially considering you're running 37 lands already.
  • Add in something like Strionic Resonator , or anything else that can make use of your permanent's abilities.

  • Keep in mind you're using a strategy that is considered low-power unless it is executed in a specific way. I don't see you having very much fun with this deck as it currently is, but who knows, maybe you are.

alright, so I did some more digging - I've been kicking around a similar deck idea for a while. here's some of the stuff you might be interested in:

Pain for everyone:

Citadel of Pain, Copper Tablet, Power Surge (read the errata for this one, it makes more sense, Shadows of the Past, Pyrohemia, Pestilence, Dark Suspicions (or Bulwark, depending. kinda mutually exclusive), Rivalry, Skullcage, Wheel of Torture, Iron Maiden and Circle of Affliction

No creatures for You!

Death Pits of Rath (which couples well with Pyrohemia and Pestilence from earlier), along with Circle of Flame, Heat Stroke, Magmatic Core, Mudslide, Wave of Terror, War's Toll, Storage Matrix, and Noetic Scales.

Punishment and protection

Pia's Revolution, War's Toll, Bitter Feud (kinda a furnace of wrath - but only for those two against each other), Defense Grid.

probably some stuff in here you considered already, just figured I'd sift through this stuff and see if anything was to your liking

As the resident Talrand, Sky Summoner for my group I understand I why it doesn't always work, removed it from my list. I see everyone keeps offering you cards to put in but nothing to take out. I do want to know, what is your play group normally like? Do they win on turn 5, 10, 20? Also do you do lot of 1 v 1's or multiplayer?

Transcendence - while yes you can kill someone with it, and it would be fun. I feel that it could be too inconsistent to work properly and other cards can add more to the deck then this one.

Ajani Vengeant, Dovin Baan, Saheeli Rai While yes they are good cards, but do they fit the deck? If you are tapping stuff down try to use Smoke, Embargo instead. If you are looking for dmg try Bulwark like effects maybe. I'm just wondering if they actually add to Zedruu.

What is the purpose of Trading Post? Is it just for more tokens to give away? Zedruu already has the life gain and card draw built into him.

I understand it's your play style with Zedruu, but I feel that you may have to many instants and Sorcery's, you run 26 in a deck that normally wants to have permanents to give away. I just think that maybe you could look into cards that do the same thing as one of those spells but it sticks around, and if need be you could give it away. A couple o-ring like effects instead of destroy so you can then give the o-ring to the person and gain life/cards off of it.

If you want Evil Zedruu then these are the cards you're looking for

Aggressive Mining

Steel Golem

Grid Monitor

Meekstone

Sphinx's Tutelage

Mindmoil

Fatespinner

Pyromancer's Swath

Thought Lash. Do the same thin you do with Illusions of Grandeur by not paying he cumulative upkeep and then give it to someone else and they exile they're whole library.

Some other good Zedruu stuff

Enlightened Tutor

Venser's Journal

Spellbook

Bulwark

Bazaar Trader

Divine Reckoning

Academy Rector

Solitary Confinement

Glacial Chasm

Maze of Ith

Personally I really like the Brand + Starfield of Nyx or Opalescence combo as another win condition. On end step you take back control of all the enchantments you've been handing out and then surprise attack on your turn after playing Starfield or Opalescence.

  1. Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Bulwark for those draw-card kills
  2. Most of the cards in the Maybeboard provide neat win-cons
  3. Jinxed Idol, and Blind Obedience chip away at life totals
  4. Delusions of Mediocrity, and Illusions of Grandeur can take chunks at a time
  5. Deck out your opponents. Very slow, but you're also supplying them with additional card draw
  6. Have so much life by the time your opponents want to come at you, that it doesn't matter what they throw your way
  7. The main goal is to make yourself a very undesirable target, and thus have your other opponents pretty much kill each other since they can't get to you. It's not really meant to obliterate people, because that's what my other decks try to do. Zedruu is much more of a fun, political Commander
