Battle Strain

Enchantment

Whenever a creature blocks, Battle Strain deals 1 damage to that creature's controller.

Updates!

In: Crypt Rats... Neheb, the Eternal... Brash Taunter... Ob Nixilis, the Adversary... Black Market Connections... Tainted Remedy... Lethal Vapors... Curse of the Cabal... Bedevil

Out: Battle Strain... Rain of Gore... Furnace of Rath... Fate Unraveler... Bloodgift Demon... Stuffy Doll... Crackle with Power... Dreadbore... Temporal Extortion

Some pretty straight forward 1 for 1 swaps with better cards. Trying to add a little more interaction into the deck with cards such as Curse of the Cabal, Lethal Vapors, Neheb and Crypt Rats. Ob Nixilis looks interesting and is in there to test as well.

Update!

Out: Avatar of Woe and Sulfuric Vortex

In: Kaervek the Merciless and Battle Strain

As much as I love the art by rk post on Avatar of Woe, it was a dead card in my hand far too often. We'll pull Kaervek back off the bench and give him another go. Sulfuric Vortex has turned off my own life gain just as much as my opponents, maybe more, haha. My buddy found Battle Strain in his bulk cards and suggested I try it out.

TehGrief on Classifying "Block" Procs

I am just wanting to ensure that a card does what I want it to. I have a janky deck set up that forces a lot of blocks.

Both Battle Strain and Heat of Battle trigger on the opponents creature blocking - these are very straightforward and make sense.

Close Quarters, however, triggers when a creature you control gets blocked.

I guess what I am asking is whether the state of "Blocked" is dichotomous; when a creature is blocked by any number of creatures, does it only count as being blocked? Or is the creature "blocked" by each creature blocking it?

The reason I ask is because Infiltration Lens triggers for each creature that is blocking the equipped creature, but the wording is ever-so-slightly different for Close Quarters.

I like the group slug in combination with a pillowfort idea. Gisela's wording offers a pretty unique opportunity. Triggered effects that would deal 1 damage to you while she is on the board deal no damage to you instead, but double damage to opponents. Manabarbs, AEther Sting, Battle Strain, Burning Earth, Heat of Battle, Rampaging Ferocidon, City of Brass, Talisman of Conviction, Battlefield Forge are all cards that would have their negative effect negated if Gisela is on the field, while opponents would suffer more.

Ankh of Mishra, Psychogenic Probe, Eidolon of the Great Revel, Pyrostatic Pillar, Repercussion, Spellshock, Zo-Zu the Punisher would all be cards that have their negative effects mitigated with Gisela out and opponents would suffer a lot more.

You could complement this game plan with pieces like War's Toll, Caltrops, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Aura of Silence, Glowrider, Sphere of Resistance, Thorn of Amethyst, Vryn Wingmare, Ghostly Prison, Windborn Muse to tax and slow them down while all the slug effects eat away at life totals.

I feel like there's quite a bit of space to be explored in this niche for Gisela.
