Couple Changes
Fuhqnugget, 1 year ago
Made a couple changes, mainly to try some different stuff out. Coveted Falcon for Faerie Mastermind. I think Faerie Mastermind will be less bursty, but will be consistently online and net me more card draw overall. Echo Tracer for Exit Specialist. This is just for less mana. Echo Tracer's only benefit is that I can use his flip to recast himself for free, basically just consistent 3 cost card draw. It's fallen off fairly quick in games however. Ad Nauseum for Force of Will. I've consistently felt down a counterspell, and Ad Naus has just not performed a lot. It's cost is too high to justify holding up. It's definitely in the maybeboard still, but I think consistent draw is better than burst like this. It's essentially between this or Coveted Falcon for Burst Draw, and I'm honestly leaning towards Coveted.

Swapped out some cards listed in last update. The Scarab God does seem a bit out of place but he is a sticky value engine to fill my board when needed. I'm looking for alternatives.
Ugin's Affinity v.1 (2024)
Andramalech, 1 year ago
Changing the structure of the Affinity build, now relying on several pieces printed from Modern Horizons 3.
-
Ugin's Labyrinth is a secure way to put ourselves ahead on Mana production. Despite Devourer of Destiny being a great way to line up the early game, it is NOT an artifact and this list is very dependent on getting as many artifacts down, as early as possible.
-
Ugin's Binding is going to be lovingly referred to as "Eugene Rift" from here forward, and seeks to be cast for freeskies since 1/6th of our deck is cost.
-
Kozilek's Unsealing provides us with ample draw power, I mean it's pretty explosive. Thought Monitor will trigger to draw five on entry.
-
Frogmyr Enforcer will give us some flexibility alongside Sojourner's Companion, eliminating the need for a Frogmite slot in a build dedicated to Ugin's favorite number.
Overall this concept seems razor-sharp on its margins; that is to say I don't think we have very much wiggle room for deck changes.
If anyone has commentary about what they believe is working well in their matchups or foresees a more efficient way to accomplish the goal, please feel free to comment!
I'm excited to discuss what new decks and playstyles erupt from MH3. And remember, it's free real estate.

This update includes cards that MAY enter the main list soon. Currently, this is only a list of possible additions.

Rogue's Passage isn't good enough + New card
IQuarent, 1 year ago
OUT: Rogue's Passage
Rogue's Passage has gotten me a few cheesy wins in the distant, distant past, but the deck has grown passed the ability to make use of it. I've taken Cephalid Coliseum in and out a few times now but I think the ability to loot three might actually get it out of the hole it gets into sometimes where it has too much mana and not enough gas.
Horizon of Progress was spoiled recently. I assume it's going to be absurdly expensive, but it case it's not, it seems like it's much better than Terrain Generator and that I should get my hands on one ASAP.

We're Back, Baby
Fuzzlewuzzle, 1 year ago
We're back! I put this deck back together after retiring it a few years ago. Now it's back and better than ever.... ish. What do I mean? Well, "normal" decks just don't do it for me anymore. I'm in too deep, and can only scratch that itch by making decks with weird restrictions. Sooooooo, Bladewing is back - as a retro-border only deck! You heard me - everything in the deck needs to use the old border (lands excluded) or it's out! Does that make the deck worse? Obviously, but it's also the most fun I've had with the deck in ages.

Swap Harmonic Prodigy for Annie Joins Up to avoid having the prodigy fetched by Atla leaving you with nothing useful.

Updated to added some new cards. Dack Fayden seems a bit out of place since I have so many more useful options now..I kind of want to add more pillow fort but I don't have many useful options that won't paint a giant target on my back like Tainted AEther would. God I love that card. Blatant Thievery could be a little better for it costing so much.
Project Update 4
CardTyrant, 1 year ago
CARDS ARE ORDERED! REPEAT! CARDS ARE ORDERED! >.> $367.33 and five packages later.... I did also order five cards for my hydra deck and a better art version of Karlach (I have the old DnD book style and I don't like how she looks in it), so the amount I spent is a bit off. I did not buy the secret lair as the cards in it did not justify the price. Maybe if the deck preforms, I will start to upgrade to cool arts and promos. Till then, Gishath will be my pimped out deck. Now to wait till they arrive and the sleeve arrive to test this baby out. :D
Complete?
SorenBlade, 1 year ago
Currently done with editing this deck. It does mostly what i want at the Current price point of $75 for everything excluding basic lands. It meets the guidlines set for the play group of no intentional infinits. Deck mostly focuses on Top Deck Manipulation for card advantage. First upgrades would be directed at flushing out the landbase and artifacts to be more streamlined, then move onto flushing out the TDM for better cards.
First Game with it.

Played with 3 people and lost due to Virtue and Valor precon. Had my enchantments set up and V&V wiped them twice. Did do 28 points of damage due to Nekusar, manabarbs and megrim. Did take too long to get those out so I am switching out Lotus Blossem for Demonic Tutor. May look at taking the myr's for cards that will work better with card draw/discard.

Edit: upgrade to infinite combo's
dylan.575, 1 year ago
In previous versions, I avoided infinite combos as I didn't find them enjoyable, preferring instead to focus on creating interesting card interactions for fun combinations. This approach worked well in 1vs1 games, but transitioning to playing EDH with four players required a makeover. The opponents I face now utilize powerful commanders like Ramos, Atraxa, Ur-Dragon, etc., and they aren't hesitant to incorporate expensive cards to optimize their decks. This shift has transformed the EDH experience into a more competitive cEDH game, prompting me to no longer shy away from using infinite combos. The unending struggle with this deck is maintaining focus. There are so many fun options to try out that I often diversify too much into other strategies or put too many cards into one theme, which unbalances the deck. Now I will playtest this deck and make adjustment if needed.
MH3 brings big sideboard pieces
Oof_Magic, 1 year ago
Modern Horizons 3 is bringing some interesting pieces to Spirits. All sideboard pieces but each very potent.
Once upon a time I would see Spirits decks siding Unified Will to counter bombs and wraths. Flare of Denial is just better. I think asking for a Spirit Vodalian Hexcatcher is probably a bit much. But a one shot hard counter variant is still sweet. This can duck a full wrath or a bomb threat or combo piece.
Flare of Fortitude is actually incredibly similar to Flare of Denial but instead of blanking a spell threat, it blanks board threats. I often find when playing aggro, you race your opponent until then sweep your board and you have to rebuild, likely only one more swing from winning the game. With white flare, we can sac a creature to fog an attack and hopefully pur remaining board can push lethal. We can also shrug off Engineered Explosives and the like.
Sideboard tribals spirits tend to miss on fliying, but not White Orchid Phantom. Double white can be a bit pressing but it's still a solid ghost for blowing out a Tron land, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, Cabal Coffers or any other problem land.
While I didn't add it, Vexing Bauble looks like a piece of sideboard action (along with Urza's Saga toolbox piece) that is primed for current Modern. The implications in this card are enormous. Blanks evoke, storm, cascade, affinity, forces, flares, and the list continues for every format this thing will be legal in. I have a weakness for trying to keep the sideboard within the theme or brand of the main but certain pieces (like the flares) are simply too good to pass on. With Fury out of the format I'm going to lean towards keeping it off the list for now, but in a meta where those mechanics may be more prevalent this is one of those pieces that you may include even if it is off brand.

Jund steal/advantage
Gleeock, 1 year ago
Attempting a departure from the usual Junding; less sac & self recursion focus. Lets be honest, they made Korvald the best at this anyway. Less creature-recursion focused d/t the unique ability to play ANY card type out of the GY. Trying to lean into mill all and GY theft. Typically the domain of blue or blue/black to fill all graveyards & steal from them. There is a decent land ramp & recursion package, because we have Green & Jund being uniquely suited to pull lands from the GY, making it at least a little different from other color combos. There is some hand advantage with mill-all & theft, but I will probably need to look into some more card advantage. On playtesting it can be pretty proficient at piling cards up in hand & playing out of GY. Also, good at steadily hitting land drops & ramping: as such, I have put some bombs into the deck to balance out the ability to turn my opponent's GY into my engine. If playing to the ideal, this deck can be unpredictable; with not being pigeon-holed in the usual creature, recursion, sac mold of typical Jund. It has playtested to be less crippled by a single Bojuka bog, since it works beyond its' own graveyard & has an ability to shift strategies on a dime.

Update 1
Skyhawk360, 1 year ago
Description is now finished as much as I'd like.
-
Removed 2 Merfolk Tricksters, I don't know why they were on the list before. I'm not playing them because 2 mana 2/2 does nothing, and its ETB is temporary. You're MUCH better off playing Eaten by Piranhas
-
4 Witness Protection from Main, Replace with 2/2 split of Piranhas and Brazen Borrower. +2 Witness into the sideboard along with the other 2 Piranhas. I want instant speed now to hold up on turn 2.
-
1 island -1 cavern of souls for +2 Mutavault. Trimming for the always intended 4x of Mutas. I think 2 basics is way too few given how many field of ruin effects people are running to trigger revolt or crimes in the time since initial creation, I've tried Boseiju. I didn't find it useful for the same reason that Tishana's Tidebinder isn't worth running main. Plus I want more blue sources.
Sideboard:
-
pre-emptively took out the common artifacts so I can add in the rare stuff later. nothing else fits and I don't really care about the space atm.
-
as mentioned, now at 2/2 split of Piranhas and Witness Protection
-
1 Decisive Denial. Given all my games in best of 1, I don't think I'd ever see myself boarding these in. IDK what I'd use them for / against. idk what to replace it with though, so x1 stays for now.
