TheBestMagicCard on Emrakul, the Promised End

I took out Traveler's Amulet, and Wanderer's Twig, even though I LOVE these cards in this deck (see reasons above)...

Kept in Expedition Map, and Environmental Sciences (same reasons as see above)...

Expedition map searches for any land, which is super utility in this deck, and it's a colorless tutor, even if it is conditional... It also supports Manascape Refractor, which I'm hyped on, and trying out...

Environmental sciences is the same idea as the Amulet and Twig and Map (see above), it helps you have a land drop, but it's also 1 of only 7 sorceries as of now, which count towards casting Emrakul, the Promised End when in the graveyard...

There are other colorless instants and sorceries, which I haven't included here, because I think they're even worse than Environmental Sciences, which says something about those cards!

Are there better colorless instants or sorceries I should include over Environmental Sciences?

Hehe, I just took out Wanderer's Twig, and Traveler's Amulet, for a sec, I think to try and fit in both Abstruse Archaic and Lithoform Engine, since Roaming Throne doesn't work like I first thought it did, but I got excited to copy abilities...

I was also able to fit Wayfarer's Bauble back in, which I think is ultimately better then the Twig and Amulet, but still isn't really that great, but same arguments to include it as the Twig and Amulet...

Yeah, um Environmental Sciences is a p BAD card, and I would probably never play it any other deck... but it happens to be a colorless Sorcery, which is kind of rare, so it's actually a hard-to-get-discount on Emrakul's casting cost... and it's cheap, and it gets a land... It's not a good card, but in this deck it kinda does a lot... Sojourner's Companion is similar to Environmental Sciences, in that it cost 2 to get a land into hand, and is also a p BAD card... But it can count as two card types in the graveyard for Emrakrul, and even though I think it will be done sparingly in the future, there will be better artifact lands that have yet to be printed...

I'm really trying to milk Emrakul's cost reduction in this deck, because I'm trying to ramp it out as soon as possible... I've won on turn 3 several times by casting Emy, because I had the ramp AND card types in the grave, to totally control the game state, mess everyones else up, and then just smash face... Getting infinite mana helps too... But yeah, the sooner you have the option to casy Emy the better, so that's why I'm still running bad colorless instants and sorceries...

I guess until there are more better colorless instants, sorceries, and tutors, I think I'm still going to run these jank cards, because they're still as good as it gets for now... But it does work! I rip face with this deck at the mall...

But heard! Thanks for the consideration and input!

Profet93 for each response!

  • Expedition Map was already in the list and likely to return.

  • Howling Mine will stay out of the list, it was just a colorless draw I could remember.

  • The Kozilek suggestions are bomb dot com and I hadn't used them in favor of more artifact-specific body presence. However, pretending to be blue is a great comparison and both of those variants have a spot here.

  • Land Fetching is great and all, and surprisingly Field of the Dead... might be useful. I mean you're right on the regard of Myriad Landscape and it's intention, but Environmental Sciences had a spot in the list. I think maybe I just need to trim the list.. somehow.

Feedback was super helpful and I think I'll need to shed some flavor from the list in favor of more function. Thanks again!

The specific interaction I am unsure about is between Narset, Enlightened Exile and Epistolary Librarian. If I attack with both, am I able to cast a spell (Ex: Environmental Sciences) for free with Epistolary Librarian, allow it to resolve, go to the graveyard, and then retarget that same spell in the graveyard with Narset, Enlightened Exile in the same attack step? I know I can layer the triggers however I choose, but I don't know when the spell technically resolves and goes to the graveyard.

What about potentially cutting the Reassembling Skeletons and the Steel Wall for a playset of Eyetwitchs and some cards like Necrotic Fumes and Environmental Sciences in the sideboard?

For ramp, have you considered any combination of Ambitious Farmhand  Flip, Environmental Sciences, Kor Cartographer and The Birth of Meletis if you need a way to to get lands onto the battlefield faster there's also Walking Atlas

Puresteel Paladin is also an option for you. Not only can you get some extra card draw, but once you have 3 artifacts on the battlefield, equipping Balan will be free. Though Maul of the Skyclaves can enter the battlefield equipped to a creature.

If you have cash to spare, don't forget Shadowspear.

Also, since you have a lot of artifacts, Have you considered Inspiring Statuary, Introduction to Annihilation and Scour from Existence as a means to protect yourself from the Karn, the Great Creator/Mycosynth Lattice Combo? If nothing else, Inspiring Statuary will at least help make your nonartifact spells cost less.

Other artifact lands to put in your deck are Ancient Den and Treasure Vault

Thank you for reading me out. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

amicdeep on Budget U/W Blink (Soulherder)

looking at this from a super budget pov there are a couple of cards i would seriouly consider

Flickerwisp has been printed into the ground and with soulherder on the field he gets rid of your opponents needed land, plainswalker or creature for the entirety of there turn. hes also a good card to flicker your own stuff and is a solid flying attacker. most importanly hes been printed into the ground the last few years and sits between 5-25 cents (if you run a couple flip lands like Umara Wizard  Flip or Skyclave Cleric  Flip and target them with the flicker effect it turns them back into creatures for some solid board advantage or as a combat trick with Ephemerate

Professor of Symbology with a wishboard of

1x Environmental Sciences, 1x Mascot Exhibition, 2x Reduce to Memory

can get you out of most situations reduce kills anything for good science means you can keep a 2 land hand with prof and not regret it and mascot is a solid wincon if the games gets grindy. also prof is a solid looter if you get all your wishboard cards and the whole paxkage is under $2 (i still use this in my $100 mono white flicker list, and the deck has top 3 a few time and this card is the decks stoneforge mystic and is defiantly the next best thing)

1-2 copys of Lavinia of the Tenth this is a hard lock with soulherder for many deck. and pro red and the deck having instant speed flicker spells card be very difficult for some decks to deal with.

Hallowed Respite may be worth running as a 2 off, its a flicker spell that pumps or taps down problematic blocker and can be done a secound time late in the game when you need the value the most.

if you can find it in the budget id try very hard to run 4 Reflector Mage its basically the reson to run blue (alongside soulherder) for none budget versions of this list, and ist much much cheaper that Skyclave Apparition

on the oust issue this may seem strange but it may be worth considering Baffling End for 2 resons, 1 it can be flickered by flicker wisp or similar to exile extra things. 2 they stay permanently exiled, i wont be ideal for every situation but may well work for some.

if your planning on upgrading to moder staple id recomed 2 copys of Winds of Abandon before path. 1 its a solid path effect. 2 in the mid-lat game its a one sided boardwipe and there for can take the slots for cleansing nova while being more useful (also its a boardwipe that exiles meaning if you have a soulherder on the field it can easily be a 5-5/6-6 after casting this)

the secound cards id upgrade is Skyclave Apparition its hands down the most powerful card im my $100 version of the deck and is often my best draw. this and a Ephemerate or soulherder and you basically have a board wipe

if you do end up running 4 path 2 winds, then it can be worth running Knight of the White Orchid which makes Glacial Floodplain or Irrigated Farmland worth running (they also work great with and trigger Port Town)

id also consdider adding a manland to your landbase. on a budget you have either Frostwalk Bastion, Faerie Conclave. if you have a little more then Cave of the Frost Dragon is probably worth the upgrade. and if you willing to spend a little more on a modern staple Celestial Colonnade is the cheapest its ever been in the history of the game $3.5/$4 ish and definatly worth 2-3 of.

hope one or two of these suggestions help a little
