Small change
IQuarent, 9 years ago
OUT: Academy Ruins, Cold-Eyed Selkie
IN: Mortuary Mire, Torrent Elemental
For the second time, I find myself not using Cold-Eyed Selkie at all. I simply have better drawing options.
I want to find room for Fertilid next, and Greater Good is still on my eventual to-add list.

Professional success!

What started out as a brew turned out to have professional potential! Someone top 8'd with a deck very similar to this one for what I believe to be the first time at an SCG classic event in Columbus today. Check out the decklist here!
1.1 update

Swapped goblin bushwacker for Reckless bushwacker This change is better on our mana, making it easier to follow up a BTE Removing this guy also fixes our Manamorphose need, so those slots are up for grabs. With removing the Manamorphose, Storm spirit just doesn't seem like it'll be a consistent 4/4 (the goal for him). With that in mind, gonna try 4 Gofys. Added 2 atarka's command to fill the manamorphose slot.
FNM 4/22/16 (4-0)
Lelouche, 9 years ago
Went 4-0 with the deck. Performed very well, just bummed I didn't get a chance to run it against any company decks which I think I will have a hard time against.
Round 1 Against B/G Midrange (2-1)
Game 1: Started on turn two with a Stone Haven Outfitter followed by a turn 3 Captain's Claws. Had him down to three life by the end of turn 5 and he scooped.
Game 2: This game was one of the funnest games of Magic I have ever played. We traded back and forth all game. I would build up a board presence, do some damage, he would then board wipe with Languish. I then brought back most of my killed creatures with March from the Tomb only to have him Languish again. Eventually, we were both down to one life, and I would have one because he would have died to first strike combat damage from Drana dying and I had a Zulaport out but I let him redo his attackers because he misunderstood the board state.
Game 3: He ended up mulling down to 4 and couldn't do anything to me from that.
Round 2 Mardu Control (2-0):
Game 1: Filled the board with some fliers, avoided getting Languished by playing Eerie Interlude, and finished him off.
Game 2: Filled the board with creatures, he got out a Nahiri then wiped my board. I responded by bringing them all back with March from the Tomb then I used Anguished Unmaking to deal with Nahiri. Two turns later he scooped.
Round 3 Jund Control (2-0):
Game 1: He got me down to 7 life with lots of Madness burn spells and using Arlinn Kord. I turned the corner using Cliffhaven Vampire to kill Arlinn and Sorin, Grim Nemesis to kill his Deathmist Raptor. Stabilized from there, won the game, finished with 24 life.
Game 2: Basically a repeat of the first, he burned all my creatures early, got down an Arlinn and Deathmist and a wolf token, I cast Anguished Unmaking on Arlinn, used Declaration in Stone on Deathmist, then just beat down afterwards.
Round 4 B/W Control (2-0):
Game 1: He had a kill spell for all my early creatures. Turn 4 we each played a Gideon. I had an Anguished Unmaking to deal with his, then just kept applying pressure from there and finished it off.
Game 2: Had him down to 7 life with just a Drana, Liberator of Malakir equipped with Captain's Claws, he played Sorin and tried to kill her and I used Eerie Interlude to save her. Killed him next turn by playing Kalastria Healer, then getting the trigger when the 1/1 kor ally entered from Drana attacking, did exactly lethal.
Notes: This was my first time ever going 4-0 with this deck and I was super happy. I've been trying to make this deck competitive for months and with the rotation of Khans and Fate Reforged, I think the deck is much better positioned. I didn't get to play and ramp or CoCo decks which I am disappointed with, but I did fairly well against control decks. March from the Tomb and Eerie Interlude saved me every game against the control match-ups. I was also very impressed with the resilience the deck showed at fighting long enough with little life gain triggers to keep me alive to give me a chance to find what I needed to eventually win.

Dark Confidant
JacobAGrossman, 9 years ago
Now that Dark Confidant has reached an all-time low of $42, toying with the idea of having Bob in the deck. I'd only be taking 1-3 damage at the most each turn, but the gain is an extra card each turn that could be the combo piece I need to just win the game, forget life totals. Also, he draws some removal spells to himself that hopefully won't be spent removing the combo creatures. What do people think?
New play testing
sonalexander, 9 years ago
I am currently play testing some new additions to help fill some weaknesses. Took out Epic Experiment Grapeshot Inner Fire Desperate Ravings Reflecting Pool Command Tower Added Pyretic Ritual Desperate Ritual Deep Analysis Telling Time Vandalblast Hurkyl's Recall Losing 2 lands hasn't been a problem during initial testing. Adding in the lower cmc red rituals have helped consistency and Deep Analysis and Telling Time have been great. Honestly i never cared for Epic Experiment. Its fun, but too reliant on Mizzix to be useful.
Comment clearing and special thanks!

So, this decklist is pretty much already in its final stages. It's been fun tweaking it and collecting the pieces of it, and really satisfying to see my binder slowly filling with the cards! I finally ordered the sleeves for it since ChannelFireball had a deal going on for KMC Hyper Mattes, so I'm going to proxy the rest of the deck after they come in sometime next week.
Special thanks to nayrash5, PartyJ, and metalevolence for the great input on the decklist, I can't thank you three enough for helping me make this deck a reality!

Mill is a thing/Splash white
907phringe, 9 years ago
So after FNM I noticed TiTi wasn't doing anything but eating removal. With a creature heavy meta, and getting so close to 0 life I decided to splash white, and play Silkwrap along with Declaration in Stone. I dropped Thing in the Ice Flip completely. Enchantment hate isn't to strong right now and I'm gonna ride it out.
SOI Pro Tour
VictorSilvertome, 9 years ago
Surprised to see an Esper Control deck with a very similar list to this deck in the Pro Tour has enlightened me and the following changes have been made:
Removed:
1x Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
1x Scatter to the Winds
2x Thing in the Ice
Flip
Added:
1x Sorin, Grim Nemesis
2x Ultimate Price
1x Silumgar's Command
Considering adding Languish, but we are only splashing black so it might not be the best idea. Thing in the Ice Flip was just not doing very well in this deck, removed all copies.

4/23/2016 update
PGleo86, 9 years ago
side: -1 Treasure Mage, -1 Squelch +2 Spatial Contortion This is a concession against aggressive decks. Treasure Mage was at one point good vs aggro, but that time has passed with the new breed of aggression we have now; I am now down to 0 copies in my 75. Squelch is also not great given how few planeswalkers we care about, and making the RG Tron matchup slightly worse postboard than it was is a non-issue given that Chalice of the Void on 1 shuts off literally 1/3 of their deck.

I've run into a number of games where I get screwed on green mana. I have to have it in multiples every game, and if I drawn a perfect hand without a forest and a bunch of Llanowar Elves I get the feel-bads. The new mulligan rules are great for the format and force tighter deck-building. I can't be so greedy.

You're right, I should add impact tremors, but no kozilek's sentinel because it doesn't have trample and can be blocked by a 0/1 eldrazi span with no negative effects to it's owner.

FNM
kutcha, 9 years ago
went to FNM last night it was a bit disappointing but i have some upside to it as well. I went 2-3 for the night but i could of easily went 4-1 i just got mana screwed on my final two games. first match up was against R/G Ramp Match 1: I lost 0-2 the first game i had two land in hand and didnt pull another till turn 6 by that time i was to far behind second game was better i would of had this one unfortunately my opponent saw most of his side board from the clip wings to his surge of righteousness Match 2: was against rally allies i won this match up 2-0 didnt have to make many canges i think i sideboarded in my radiant flames for game 2. Match 3: i faced off against mono white weenies i won this match up 2-0 between my declaration in stone and darkdwellers my opponent could not get a boardstate and ended up fizzling out both games Match 4: was against a Jund deck i lost 2-1 i won the first match i over thought to much and i removed to many of my creatures for removal and i ended up waiting on a 6th land both game 2 and 3 and lost. Match 5: was against against a Abzan deck i lost 0-2 first game he had me down to 8 life before i could get 4 lands on the field game two i had him down to 2 life if i would of pulled a kolagans command or a dragon to reveil with draconic command i would of won however i pulled neither and was dwindled down by sorin/ chandra I made a few changes to the deck this morning to hopefully fix the mana curve issue overall the deck run well just needs those few tweaks i am hoping i have made those tweaks now.
