Fellow Planeswalkers,

I have compiled a list of Dimir cards and tried to assemble them into a Dimir archetype deck, that is for once not a Mill deck.

There are multiple seperate ideas that got woven together here:

  • A deck that has both Thing in the Ice   and Snapcaster Mage alongside Unearth for ultimate card advantage and recursion
  • A deck that combines (at least) 2 deck archetypes, Control and Midrange
  • A deck that can play like Jund (interaction-wise), but isn't

Enter Dimir

The general strategy here is early game disruption with hand and board control, until you naturally lose enough life to drop some Shadows, or assembe enough spells to flip Thing in the Ice  . Draw a bunch of cards, use Snapcaster Mage to recast your spells, return him to your hand when TiTi flips or return him from the grave with Unearth. Liliana, Heretical Healer   serves as conditional lifegain when in trouble and as more copies of Unearth.

I wanted the strength of this deck to be the ability of taking advantage of and interacting with multiple zones and ressources, but at the same time not being crippled when access is denied. Life can be lost on our own terms here.

Also, this deck has a lot of tricks and unintuitive plays up its sleeve!

This deck is still a work in progress, so please feel free to rate, playtest and comment with some constructive feedback. Likes are much appreciated!

Please keep in mind that:

  • I'm likely not adding colors
  • Will not change the archetype - this is supposed to be a midrange deck

Cards I'm NOT considering atm:

  • Lurrus of the Dream-Den - had a version running Lurrus and concluded it will get banned, so planning without it again
  • Thoughtseize may seem like a no brainer here, but only really makes sense in faster DS lists. Just a dead card late-game
  • Liliana of the Veil (budget)
  • Bitterblossom turned out to be too inconsistent
  • Gurmag Angler and other delve spells, or spells that become dead once GY is turned off (I understand the deck already has some potential dead cards, but I tried to keep them at minimum and don't want more)
  • Creatures that are hard to recast or lose power after TiTi flips
  • Cards with CMC >3
