Zeal's Trainers - Mono Green Stompy

Commander / EDH Goodstuff Mono-Green Stompy

sonofzeal

This deck is part of a cycle I'm putting together, one of each colour - and if I get ambitious, one of each two-colour combination, too.

The basic idea is for each deck to be an introduction to that colour. I try to include many of the most popular cards of each colour, as well as many of the most famous cards of each colour, the sorts of cards people make off-hand reference to ("oh, Freyalise's -2 is a Naturalize"; "Damnation is a black Wrath"). These decks are generally going to be low on synergy and more of a "Goodstuff" deck, but hopefully also capture the essence of what each colour is about in addition to showcasing many of the individual cards. Green should be stompy, red should try to win quick, etc.

On the other hand, because these are "trainer" decks, I try to avoid tutors (because they require knowing what you're digging for), Planeswalkers (because they're complicated), and effects that can really lock players out of the game (for what I hope are obvious reasons).

I haven't playtested these at all, and have no idea yet how they'll play against eachother, but I figure I can tune as I go.

For Green, the gameplan is to ramp up, cast some big creatures, buff them up as needed, and stomp. There's some draw, some removal, and some protection as well, but not much lifegain and only a few cards that enable going wide.

Possible commanders are Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma and Ghalta, Primal Hunger. They're the only two legendary creatures, but both are excellent choices for this deck. I lean towards Ghalta because in a stompy deck like this, it should be reasonably trivial to recast him if he gets destroyed unless you're completely out of gas, in which case neither helps.
