Primalcrux

Creature — Elemental

Trample

Chroma - Primalcrux's power and toughness are each equal to the number of green mana symbols in the mana costs of permanents you control.

I always liked Primalcrux. I had a homebrew Standard deck back then that used Spitting Image to copy him over and over. I actually came in 2nd place with it during fnm and things were going really smooth but I lost to seismic swans in the final round... a standard deck that ran like 45 lands.

This works great as an idea, but Norwood Priestess is a four drop that ups devotion by 2, which isn't great, and the ramp is good enough that even The Great Henge and Khalni Hydra are going to be played for next to nothing, and Primalcrux isn't too expensive at 6 Green, taking into account that Utopia Sprawl makes it MUCH easier. Norwood Priestess is better with really expensive stuff like Worldspine Wurm that doesn't have an easy decrease in cost like Khalni Hydra. Still, thanks for leaving feedback!

This reminds me of a deck I had for a long time. It focused on using as many Green Mana Pips as possible. It had a handful of mana dorks like Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise, and/or Elvish Mystic to help ramp late-game win cons. The early threats included cards like Avatar of the Resolute, Predator Ooze, Leatherback Baloth, Strangleroot Geist, Garruk's Companion, and Steel Leaf Champion. Later in the game, I would use Primalcrux, Khalni Hydra, Aspect of Hydra, and Overwhelming Stampede to close out games. It was a lot of fun and made some huge attacks!

Primalcrux used to be the quintessential Devotion finisher, but by the time you're casting 6-drops you don't need the high pip count anymore, and they've since printed better green finishers with relevant ETBs that just outclass Primalcrux (and Gigantosaurus ) these days.

I agree with TheVectornaut about a Defenders or Toughness Matters hub. WotC seems to like printing Assault Formation , Arcades, the Strategist , and High Alert , so Defenders is a good choice (though I wouldn’t call it Walls because not all defenders are walls). But I’ve also seen a lot of Toughness Matters with Doran, the Siege Tower , Belligerent Brontodon , and Huatli, the Sun's Heart .
I’m here to throw out Chroma/Devotion. Even before Theros Beyond Death, there’s been a lot of modern decks using Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . Green likes to print cards like Khalni Hydra , Primalcrux , and Llanowar Tribe , but there’s plenty of devotion with other colors, too.
Anyway, thanks for reading!

Primalcrux fight me, oh wait I've got the biggest creature you've ever seen

Not only does it have awesome flavour text, not only does it have one of the funniest casting costs I've ever seen, but It's huge, and will become enormous in any deck you care to mention.

Worldspine Wurm and Primalcrux are gonna be dead cards without Karametra's Acolyte, which is already a really slow mana dork and not what you want to spend turn 4 doing. you don't even have enough lands to reliably hit 4 by turn 4.

the biggest reason to play green devotion anyway is Aspect of Hydra. you'll probably want some ways to protect your creatures like Blossoming Defense and Ranger's Guile
