Pauper Pirates Pitilessly Plundering Poor People

Pauper EDH Aggro Battlecruiser UR (Izzet)

VennyIsAsleep4119

This deck is a pirate themed deck using the new partner pair from commander legends of Breeches, Brazen Plunderer + Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator as a sort of Izzet pirate aggro/tempo deck

First things first let’s discuss the Commanders taking leading this Crew.

First, we have Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator the initial commander that drew me to this idea. I initially liked him for his Cedh potential, but realized he offers great value for Pauper. Malcom is a 2U costed, 2/2 flying siren pirate. He has the effect whenever a pirate you control deals damage to an opponent, you create a treasure for each one damaged. Malcom gives this deck our main source of acceleration to take advantage of the decks many flashback, retrace, and buyback spells. His effect also combos well with the next partner I decided on.

Speaking of which, we have Breeches, Brazen Plunderer serving as the actual captain of this crew of crust, cruel cutthroats. Breeches, is a 3R 3/3 menace Goblin Pirate. His effect is triggered the same way as Malcom, pirates dealing damage to our opponents, but instead of making treasure, we are plundering their top decks to be our own resources.

When combined we have a pair of pirates who ramp us as well as gain us card advantage for being aggressive. Something Izzet pirates doesn’t struggle with at all.

Now that we have the commanders out of the way, let’s move on the the rest of the deck.

The creatures we are running don’t need much explanation. They are all pirates in some way or another, but they do fall in different categories. We have some pirates simply for the name, pirates who generate more advantage (monarch), and we have pirates who hurt our opponents (the rishaden ETB tax pirates) and punish them for tapping out.

The spells of the deck are all intended to help us further churn advantage, as well as slow down and control our opponents.
