Siren Lookout

Creature — Siren Pirate

Flying

When Siren Lookout enters the battlefield, it explores. (Reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature, then put the card back or put it into your graveyard.)

So Rishadan Cutpurse, Rishadan Footpad and Rishadan Brigand are all pirates. I've always been successfully annoyed when an opponent plays them against me.

I suggest running 2-drop rocks over 3-drops. I think you should run cards like Rakdos Signet over Obelisk of Grixis. I think Talisman of Indulgence, Talisman of Dominance and Talisman of Creativity are probably better than the signets though.

Snap seems better than Depths of Desire.

Dack Fayden is probably a good fit for this deck. He's powerful and a thief (sorta a land-pirate, I guess).

Ponder and Preordain belong in any blue deck, including this one. Brainstorm is good if you get fetch-lands, but I wouldn't run it unless you have fetch lands.

Spectral Sailor is a good way to sink extra mana. Dockside Extortionist is good for getting mana.

Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora are good draw-engines.

I think Bribery is worth including. Also Coastal Piracy.

The cuts are going to depend on how much you're willing to compromise flavor. Captain's Hook, Prying Blade, Fell Flagship and Dusk Legion Dreadnought seem like good cuts. There're also a bunch of creatures you can cut for better ones or to get down to a hundred cards: Brazen Buccaneers, Crafty Cutpurse, Rigging Runner, Siren Lookout, Slippery Scoundrel and Talas Warrior. I don't think they do enough to be included.

That's all I got -- hope this helped.

Good luck

Really nice deck. I like the combenition of surveil-flyers, with Favorable Winds and Curios Obsessions. However i think i would maybe reconsider two cards:

I´ve tested alot with my own Surveil list, but even though i run 28 Cards with surveil, i felt that its not worth it running Enhanced Surveillance unless your deck relies heavily on a filled graveyard (when you play cards like Mission Briefing or Blood Operative) or if you play cards that rely on self-mill triggers like Narcomoeba or Creeping Chill.

On the oser hand i think you can use better options than Jace, Cunning Castaway as he relys on your creatures and even then its not card advantage but card-filtering, as you always have to discard a card for his first abilty.

Have you tried Pilfering Imp? It is an early flyer, that can always trade with the best card in your opponetnts hand.

Another route that might be worth a test is running Pilfering Imp along some valuable thre-drops like Siren Lookout and Vampire Nighthawk together with Siren Stormtamer and the other two drop flyers you already included to get a huge blowout-potential with Gruesome Menagerie. Generally i think that Favorable Winds benefits mostly from many smaler cmc-creatures instead of some bigger ones, but thats just the way i prefer to play the winds.

FastIsFaster on GRN UPDATE: Mono Blue — Counter/Copy

Have you considered Heart of Kiran, perhaps in place of Siren Lookout ?

Heart of Kiran, Jace, Cunning Castaway, and Skyship Plunderer all work very nicely together.

T2: Drop Skyship Plunderer T3: Drop Jace, Cunning Castaway, +1, swing with Skyship Plunderer put another loyalty counter so now he is at 5. T4: Swing with Skyship Plunderer, add a counter, he is at 6. Main Phase 2, -5 Jace, Cunning Castaway and get two more copies of Jace.

Now you have three copies of Jace, Cunning Castaway to work with, so as soon as you drop Heart of Kiran you can crew it using one copy, all while continuing to tick up loyalty on the other copy/copies. By the time you use all the loyalty counters from the crew copy, you will have generated more copies and can just continue the cycle.

Get rid of Jace, Fleet Swallower and a land or two. This deck is otherwise pretty low to the ground and tempo-based, don't clog that up with big fatties that don't actually help your game plan. Also, replace Wanted Scoundrels and Siren Lookout with cards of the same mana cost (Kitesail Freebooter for instance) if available, as both of them are pretty lacklustre if played on curve. Good luck!

thank you Mice_Overseer and razelfark for the awesome feedback!

I will test replacing Radiant Destiny with Curious Obsession.

I love the advice on replacing Siren Lookout with some permutation of Kitesail Freebooter and Storm Fleet Aerialist thanks for the 2 drop reco's - will test now.

razelfark, I'd love to listen to more ideas!!

Thanks again.

Interesting deck idea you have going here. I am always a fan of flying pirates and other favorable winds style decks.

My problem with your design is that you really have no need for Radiant Destiny as it just complicates your mana base and slows you down for having too many anthem effects. The card slot would be better off changing some form of board control like Fatal Push, Lightning Strike, or Lookout's Dispersal.

Another card I am not to fond of is Siren Lookout. For a three cost potential 2/3 flier, it is lacking for an aggro deck. I would cut in favor of more Kitesail Freebooter and/or Storm Fleet Aerialist . Reason for the Aerialist is that as a 2 cost for same base stats and is easy enough to make it trigger as a 2/3. It also being that one mana cheaper helps you agress faster by being able to drop more on the board sooner.

As for side deck I always make sure to have Lost Legacy when I play black just because there are enough combo decks being played and/or Second Sun decks. Being able to remove a key card to a combo or a card that just says I win the game (Approach of the Second Sun) on turn 3 is usually going to make things a lot easier.

I have a few more suggestions, but not the time to post atm. If you are interested I will try to post them later.

Hans49163 If youre getting mana flooded I would highly recommend replacing a couple of islands with Desert of the Mindful. I wouldnt recommend just taking them out since youll start missing land drops but the deserts will give you the option of cycling them if you run into them.

Snivy__ I originally didnt include a sideboard due to my local meta being extremely weird. I kept catching myself adding cards that would not benefit anyone else playing the deck so I gave up and just forgot about it. Youve got a good ideas for the sideboard. Ill defnintely consider some of them. Though I dont see any reason for more than a couple of copies negate since this deck runs a playset of dispersal.

As for Warkite, Ive left him in the maybeboard until his price drops enough. Definitely replace Siren Lookout with it. Its purely an upgrade to do so.
