Oops! All Tokens

Every spell in this deck either creates tokens or references tokens. Theme decks are cool!

Neat deck… How do I…

There’s a heavy emphasis on low curve spells and card advantage, since there’s only four 3 CMC mana rocks in the whole damned game that also reference tokens. I’ve opted to run Skyclave Relic for its insane kicker potential with Mondrak.

The rest of the “ramp” involves putting basic plains into hand with cards like The Birth of Meletis, or pumping plains into play with Terrain Generator if you have shit else to do. Ramp potential increases exponentially with Treasure-generating effects with Mondrak in play.

There’s over 10 cards in this deck that have “yadayada draw a card” printed somewhere in their respective text boxes. It’s surprisingly ample.

Highlights include Smuggler's Share, Bennie Bracks, Zoologist and Chivalric Alliance.

This deck has two win conditions –

  • Swing with a bunch of weenies. Having Anointed Procession in the command zone facilitates creating a TON of tokens. There’s a litany of effects that can make these weenies bigger, like the various anthem effects or cards like Rosie Cotton of South Lane and Securitron Squadron.

  • Halo Fountain. There’s an annoying amount of vigilence in this deck (looking at you, Intangible Virtue), but this card is good in its own right without the win condition attached. That being said, it is viable, and I have managed to pull it off a couple of times.

Spells that create tokens upon resolution are preferred to effects that need to wait a turn cycle to do anything useful, primarily because this deck can’t afford to be much slower than it already is. Mondrak’s activation cost is low, but she (I looked it up!) is still pretty vulnerable.

If you’re not making tokens, then you’re probably holding a hand that consists of either removal or lands. The beauty of this deck is that almost no cards ever feel irrelevant; having a deck with a superb level of synergy and consistency makes eschewing ramp and other powerful cards that I would run without my self-imposed deckbuilding restriction feel a little bit better.

and some

I tried to keep the nonbasic lands on point with the theme, but it felt difficult to avoid running Guildless Commons, Myriad Landscape and Terrain Generator. Perhaps there will be good candidates for swapouts in future sets!

Any fast ramp alongside tutors and Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar and Skullclamp take this deck from a 6 to over 9000 very easily. It’s fun to play this deck with stuff like that every once in awhile.
