FNM Progress 8/26

razelfark, 8 years ago

Deck has made more progress ending the night going 2-1-1. To be honest, my loss was brought on in part due to player error more then deck because I was having trouble focusing due to the day just being long. The side deck seems to be working very well as it is. the only thing I am thinking of adding to the deck at this point is maybe a few more Transgress the Mind to help deal with other control decks and added help vs burn decks. Here is the rundown of how the games went.

Game 1: B/W planeswalker control 2/0

The first round took some time to finish as Anguished Unmaking slowed me down a bit by exiling key cards certain points in game. Won the round because starfield allowed me to flood him with creatures he wasn't able to get rid of permanently. Second round took less time because my opponent didn't have answer to turn 5 sigil flooding angels at him ever turn after.

Game 2: W/G Humans 2/0

Close first game as he almost rushed me fast enough to stop me from controlling all his cards. In the end the lockdown from my enchantments was too strong for them to handle as he could not get rid of starfield that kept bringing back the occasional enchantment he managed to destroy re-locking something down.

Game 3: B/W planeswalker control 1/1 (Tie)

This game was a long one that we didn't finish the first round till after 45 min had passed. I won the first hand but lost the second as he got off Ob's ult because I could not stop it from ticking up through his anguished unmakings stopping my suppression attempts.

Game 4: U/W Human/spirit control 1/2

Even with 5 failed attempts to realize I had lethal I managed to win the first round. Second round I was playing just as bad and lost the round. third round I could not draw my 5th land after choosing to start with 4 made me sad.

If you have any questions feel free to comment and I will answer as well as I can.

Testing some new cards

Lilbrudder, 8 years ago

ADDED: Autumn's Veil; Tezzeret the Seeker; Jace's Archivist; Elvish Spirit Guide; Jeweled Amulet; Reflecting Poolfoil; Twilight Mire.

CUT: Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir; High Tide; Candelabra of Tawnos; Capsize; Island; Sunken Ruins.

While high tide has been good (but slow) when I have used it and Capsize has been a decent mana sink, candlabra has been a non factor and this is not a storm deck. Rather than distort my mana base to abuse these interactions I will instead focus more on what the deck does well. eight islands+duals+fetchlands is more than sufficient to support Gush. Autumn's Veil replaces Teferi to protect the wheel combos on turn 2-4. Tezzeret is essentially a 5 mana Teferi's Puzzle Box

Early returns on these changes has been very encouraging. The consistency by which this deck can now wheel+leo or lock on turn 3 with counterspell backup is truly terrifying. I literally goldfished 6 games in a row with a turn 3 combo.

FNM

Engineerharry, 8 years ago

9 Person FNM at a LGS. Wide range of decks with an even mix of strategies.

Round 1 versus G Ramp, won 2-0.

Game 1 ended quickly with a turn 3 Liliana, the Last Hope leading to her ultimate on curve. Game 2 opponent failed to find a colourless mana source allowing my otherwise awkward starting hand to take over.

Round 2 versus Temur Emerge lost 1-2.

Game 1 my opponent timewalked me multiple times with Elder Deep-Fiend putting me in a poor position I never managed to recover from. Game 2 I won by out-valuing my opponent, having all my planeswalkers on the field at the same time. Game 3 my opponent and I traded resources, but opponent managed to play Emrakul, the Promised End a turn before me forcing me to dump all my removal on my planeswalkers thus consuming all my resources capable of dealing with Emrakul, the Promised End.

Round 3 versus Abzan Seasons Past won 2-0.

Both games played out the same way, I managed to control the board with my removal suite and won with incremental advantage thanks to my many planeswalkers.

Round 4 versus UW Spirits, won 2-1.

Game 1 I generated enough early pressure that we were simply racing and I came out on top thanks to man lands. Game 2 opponent had three Spell Quellers which shut down my early plays. Game 3 while ont e play I managed to shut down his slow start with removal and won with an Emrakul, the Promised End

Clearly my previous edits made their presence known, I was capable of making plays much earlier and allowed me to respond to early pressure. I believe my sideboard is ill-suited to deal with emerge strategies and the new red based strategies. Negate would be a welcome improvement in both match ups post sideboard.

Trip to the Market

Fobatore, 8 years ago

Sometimes I just need to sac a creature, and Market's lower cost outweighs the potentially greater life gain of Miren.

Workhorse provides mana and a body in the grave while doing so. Soul just wasn't feeling needed right now.

Ball comes in as something like a second Sensei's Divining Top to filter through to the things we need. Totem is fun tech in EDH, with some obvious targets, but... not always enough.

Flashing in Artifacts has only had niche utility in here. Welder has the utility of any Artifact we've destroyed, milled, or discarded (the 4 Toughness isn't too bad either).

Completely foiled out!

MrAwesomeSocks, 8 years ago

With the acquisition of Demonic Tutorfoil, The deck is completely foiled out! The exceptions are, of course, the 12 cards that do not (and probably never will) come foil. Oh well.

With that being said, now it's time to look towards the future. I'm updating the MaybeBoard with several cards that I want in Machinations of the Draconian. These are cards I've always wanted in the deck, but can never make room. If any of you have time, please give suggestions of what I can take out and why. Or, if you don't think they're necessary, please tell me why.

Thanks a million guys! You guys helped make it the #6 overall EDH deck! I couldn't have done it without you!

Mo' Mana(kin)

Fobatore, 8 years ago

In:

  • Doubling Cube (The extra little push of mana does come in handy.)
  • Manakin / Millikin (Nice cheap, early ramp, with Millikin helping to cut Emrakul's cost/thin the deck/set stuff up to be brought back with Reclaimer, Shredder, etc.)

Out:

  • Eldrazi Mimic / Breaker of Armies (Neither of these contributed much to the overall plan, with Breaker hardly even getting cast.)
  • Gruesome Slaughter (Most notable just for being a Sorcery - often just dead in hand without a discard outlet.)

We've reached under $30!!!!

Zatypoo2929, 8 years ago

And i'm not going to try to bring this deck any further down!

If you want to find more cheap decks, go on down to the The Cheap Deck Club., you won't regret it!

Post Conspiracy 2

silasary, 8 years ago

I have a bunch of cards from EMA & CN2 that I should insert. Let's do that.

Replaced Exploration with the Strictly Better Burgeoning. And I don't need two of those effects. Replace Elvish Skysweeper with Copperhorn Scout Collective Unconsciousness for Green Sun's Zenith (How had I not done this sooner?) Joraga Warcaller for Borderland Explorer Orchard Elemental for Titania's Chosen. (I'm not sold on this one)

Updates V0.2

Kazicon, 8 years ago

Some tweaks here and there.

I have dropped each of my retreats down to two of each, from the previous four, in order to make room for Expedite (4).

In order to cut down on the price of the deck, I have dropped my two fetchlands for another Mountain and Forest. My sorceries and Sylvan Ranger seem to pull my mana state together quite nicely for the dollar. I have removed 2 Blighted Woodland in exchange for 2 Kessig Wolf Run, as I'm lacking trample in this deck.

I have removed Rampaging Baloths, and will instead be running Omnath, Locus of Rage. In order to make up for the trample, I have removed Territorial Baloth for Mina and Denn, Wildborn.

PLEASE READ: NO expensive suggestions. Some mid costs may be acceptable. This is a budget deck and should remain within the 75 to 100$ range.

Adjustments

Nick+, 8 years ago

I've removed Topplegeist for extra copies of Reflector Mage and Spell Queller. Contingency Plan was replaced with Not Forgotten, because I need a sorcery for delirium and I can use it to recycle one of my cards. I'm still thinking about the sideboard.

Conspiracy abound.

Bloodaegis, 8 years ago

I got some AMAZING pulls from Conspiracy 2!

I am seriously thinking about some of the more interesting cards from the set,

Burgeoning will be an auto-include since the power of a t1 Exploration is unreal if left alone.

I have a minor Clone sub-theme and I am considering Followed Footsteps as a fun card to add, and would give me reason to make a DJ Khaled meme inspired token-"Another One" because GIMMICKS ARE AWESOME!

Also I enjoy the idea of something like Dragonlair Spider because cascading into a 5/6 that makes tokens for every spell cast would be interesting!

If anyone has some Planeswalkers they could recommend also that would be amazing, I do enjoy the Superfriend Aspect of the deck.
