Possible Journey to Nyx Udates

sqjohnson, 11 years ago

So far I'm playing around with the Ajani, Mentor of Heros and where to put him. As of now I have taken out Polukranous, World Eater but that means that the new Ajani can't dig for any of my big creatures in my library because Advent of the Wurm is an instant but I think just having access to card advantage like that and the ability to distribute +1/+1 counters makes it worth it. If anyone has a better suggestion I would love to hear it.

MTGO

Pearsall85, 11 years ago

Hey all I have recently started playing MTGO so Ive bought some of the cards online and been playing with the deck and tbh its not very good! Unless I get the perfect opening hand I just cant stay with any deck. Im wondering whether to even try persevering with it or just knock it on the head!

Everything in the maybe board was in the main board. I thought more heroic enablers like Ranger's Guile and Bioshift were more important than the Kiora's Follower and Sphinx's Revelation

Entering Deck Type Phase

TheGamer, 11 years ago

After the Color Phase, we are going BWR. Now what are we doing? Control? Aggro? Midrange? Let me here your opinions.

I don't want to spend too much time on this phase, maybe like a day or two.

flyguy, Stemii, jyork1213, TheAnnihilator, voice your opinion! I am tagging you since you recently commented here.

-1 Ray of Command +1 Dominating Licid repeatable control is better.

-1 Abduction +1 Control Magic permanent control is better.

-1 Erratic Portal +1 Parallel Thoughts If people aren't happy about Braids speeding up the game, you're probably doing something wrong. By the time people want to kill Braids, it's probably too late. There's still some utility in portal, but stealthsuit protects all of your stuff better than portal, and it's rare you'll use it to bounce your own stuff except Braids. You'll almost never use it to bounce other people's stuff at all. Crystal Shard does its job better anyway.

-1 Great Whale +1 Palinchron He's so cute! I love the whale, but Palinchron is strictly better.

First build test

Silverf1sh, 11 years ago

Have yet to try multiplayer EDH, but in the games I played through last night I ended up with average 300 life and not uncommonly 4-700. The token swarm works about as well as one might expect. Springjack Pasture actually managed to be fairly reliable card draw late game with trostani helping out, and Ajani, Mentor of Heroes is definitely nothing to be trifled with. I like it, pretty swell for a first build.

I added Blood Cryptfoil then maybeboarded the Magma Jets. I understand the value there, but in terms of dealing as much damage as possible as fast as possible I like Lightning Strike more. I will wait and see about Chandra's Phoenix, when trying the deck out against other decks, flying hasn't been that necessary.

Thoughts on JOU

harrydemon117, 11 years ago

I'm thinking that Keranos is going to be a HUGE addition to Grixis, but trying to figure out where he will go in. I'm thinking that I can replace the Jace, Memory Adepts main with him (or at least one) and put the other in the sideboard.

Thoughts?

4-0 Standard Tournament!

Mn3m0n1c, 11 years ago

Hey all, Went to another standard tournament last night, my first time at this other store... Some very tough matches, but overall a fantastic performance from my recent changes to this deck.

-

Match 1: 2-0 Jund Mirror

Game 1: On the turn, mulled to 6 since opener was 3 Elvish Mystic and 4 scrylands. Opponent mustve kept a strange hand, as he only played one Reaper of the Wilds on turn 4 and I had a Dreadbore for it. No other creatures, so it was a quick concession.

Game 2: Turn again, Kept 7, He didnt play anything until turn four, in which it was a 2/4 vanilla creature that grants 7 life upon play? not sure what it was. He played a Deadbridge Chant, but I won the game before he had a chance to use it.

Strange match..

-

Match 2: 2-0 GR Monsters

Game 1: On the turn, Really should not have kept this hand... all shocks/scrys and he had a basic land onslaught into Elvish Mystic, Domri Rade and Sylvan Caryatid. I thought My chances were extremely slim when he played a Stormbreath Dragon on turn 4. I had nothing in play except a hardcasted Ghor-Clan Rampager and an Elvish Mystic. However I had some fortunate draws.. He +'d Domri Rade into a Ghor-Clan Rampager, I was very scared as he had dragon monstrous mana next turn and I had 5 cards in hand. He hit me for 8 with pumped dragon and got me to 4 with other attackers. Well, I had my 5 perfect mana in play including my Elvish Mystic. shocked myself to 2 with a land and I swung with my Ghor-Clan Rampager. He accepted the damage, neglecting to block with Courser of Kruphix. I shit you not, i then bloodrushed my hardcasted Ghor-Clan Rampager with two additional copies, to make it a 12/12 trample. Second main I hit him with a Flesh / Blood for another 12 damage for 24 damage. :) He was stunned, but he applauded the miraculous recovery from 2 life facing 21.

Game 2: On the turn yet again. Kept my hand, really nice curve out. Turn 1 mystic, turn 2 carytid, turn 3 Xenagos, God of Revels. I played a Polukranos, World Eater turn 4 into xenagod, triggered haste and double power into a tapped board. hit him for 10, and simply dropped the Flesh / Blood for the win.

-

Match 3: 2-1 Naya Hexproof. Shat my pants in this one.

Game 1: WON THE ROLL! played first, kept my hand, Mystic, Domri asap. Unfortunately He got out his Witchstalker with Unflinching Couragefoil. I took 5. Following turn he played an Ethereal Armor and Madcap Skills. I took the damage, he played Boros Charmfoil and gave him double strike for a fast win. Figures, I should just opt to play second from now on.

Game 2: Sideboard isnt too helpful against hexproof, but I subbed out the Rakdos's Returns and Courser of Kruphixs as they dont help me against him and his speed. added in Vraska the Unseen, Abrupt Decay, kept my 2 Dreadbore for Ajani, Caller of the Pride and added Golgari Charm to get rid of some crucial enchantments or -1/-1 some Gladecover Scouts, or even regenerate a necessary block. He came out the gates fast. I Golgari Charmed his Unflinching Couragefoil on his Witchstalker. He played Boros Charmfoil to make it indestructible.. man was I shocked. a few turns later after he neglected my Domri Rade gaining value for card drawing.. I was facing down his 9/9 witchstalker. He swung in, knowing I had Reaper of the Wilds and deathtouch mana. I had to go for it. He hit me, I deathtouched, he played a second Boros Charmfoil and gave doublestrike. so he hit me for 15 trample and gained 20 life. I was down to 3 and he was up to 41. with his neglect of my Domri Rade, I then cashed him in for his ultimate. hardcasting a Ghor-Clan Rampager and hit him for 8 alongside a Polukranos, World Eater. His Witchstalker was a 10/10 here, but no first trike. so my doublestrike Polukranos, World Eater traded with his voltron. a sigh of relief. However in my mind I had already lost. He then played a Fleecemane Lion and immediately monstered it, sadface with a Dreadbore in my hand. On my turn I played Stormbreath Dragon, minor fistpump in my head as It can completely stop a voltroned Fleecemane Lion, sans Madcap Skills. So we stalemated for a bit, staring eachother down. He played an Ajani, Caller of the Pride, thankfully dragon was on D, so the flying doublestrike was no good. I Dreadbored ajani next turn and another Polukranos, World Eater monstered... I did the math and had a Ghor-Clan Rampager, Elvish Mystic, 8/8 Polukranos, World Eater and 1 monstered Stormbreath Dragon, one in my hand. With his creatures, he could deny 9 damage. so I played my second dragon and swung with everything. he was at 33. Exactly 42 damage came across, he blocked with his two monster Fleecemane Lions, one with a +1/+1 from ajani. reduced 9 and took an exact 33 damage for the win.

Game 3: Went exactly the way I wanted. He played his voltron tactics.. but he did NOT have the hexproof creatures! I Dreadbored a Mistcutter Hydra with two enchants for a 3 for 1. Then 2 for 1'd his Fleecemane Lion with Abrupt Decay before he could monster it. He was drawing dead and I hit him with Polukranos, World Eater and Stormbreath Dragon + Flesh / Blood while he was at 11 for the game.

-

Match 4: 2-1 Selesnya Aggro, we agreed to split $18 each, instead of $24 / $12 but played it out.

Game 1: I lost the roll, was facing down 6 creatures. Scavenging Ooze, Domri Rade and some Ghor-Clan Rampager trample with Flesh / Blood got me there. Scooze got too big to handle and I established control at 3 life.

Game 2: my hand was far too slow, and he had exactly what he wanted, just couldnt get my hand out fast enough. I had the roflstomp combo ready to roll, but I had 3 Overgrown Tombfoils, 2 Stomping Ground and 1 Elvish Mystic.. Sadly I did not have the third red source to double Ghor-Clan Rampager into Flesh / Blood for the win... He won shortly after.

Game 3: Similar to game 1, Except this time I had two Stormbreath Dragons in play to chump everything until I could turn the tables and win. He simply could not address the dragon and pro white. Game set and match 4-0!

Changed the deck lists to reflect the foils I had, although it does make the lists difficult to read in some instances. I may change it back for readability, but the rainbow spoilers make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Last change before FNM

Macdman11, 11 years ago

I decided AEtherling just didn't fit in this deck. I took him out and added two islands until I can get the Izzet scry lands in here. I added Spike Jester into the sideboard for when I need some counter to aggro.

A few changes

Macdman11, 11 years ago

I decided to get the Supreme Verdict and up Ajani, Caller of the Pride. I had to cut a Voice of Resurgence which sucks but I needed room and I don't mind running 3. Still haven't got the 2 Kiora, the Crashing Wavefoil but will try soon.
