you might want Elvish Archdruid over Joraga Treespeaker , the Archdruid will end up giving you combined 9 mana as opposed to the Treespeaker's combined 6

July 6, 2013 1:29 a.m.

But a CMC of 1 for Treespeaker vs 3 for the Archdruid. I rarely level up the Treespeaker, using it for 1 mana primarily. If I were using more of an Elf Ball type deck, Elvish Archdruid would definitely be an auto-include.

For your mana base, I would remove your Tectonic Edge s, Khalni Garden s, a Eldrazi Temple and a Treetop Village for one more Eye of Ugin , some more search lands and basic lands.

Swap Rampant Growth for Sakura-Tribe Elder .

And then add in an Arbor Elf and Overgrowth combo, you can easily remove some of those other high cost creatures, like Avenger of Zendikar , Steel Hellkite and perhaps a few Primeval Titan s. Other cards to remove: Garruk Wildspeaker and maybe Beast Within .

Ancient Stirrings for Weird Harvest on the creatures and for the lands one of these three, Reap and Sow , Scapeshift and Sylvan Scrying . Get Scapeshift if you can, because that basically means an instant win if you have any landfall cards out.

Since your playing Lotus Cobra , Seer's Sundial is a useful mechanic. It can replace Explore and you should even look into using Walking Atlas and/or Azusa, Lost but Seeking .

Oh and by the way, you have Forest linked to the deck forrest in your description, might want to fix that~

Yeah, the Khalni Garden ETB tapped can be a bummer at times. I do like the chump it offers though. I planned on decreasing it anyway.

The colorless lands can mess with my mana base a bit, so I'll remove a Tectonic Edge and maybe a Eldrazi Temple in favor of more basics. The fetches listed are all I have access to, ATM. They're freaking salty! I do like the lone manland, as it gives me something to swing with in the event of a board wipe.

I'm unsure about Arbor Elf and Overgrowth . It's a neat interaction and I'll have to play with it, though.

I don't have Sakura-Tribe Elder , but wanted to replace Rampant Growth with 2x Solemn Simulacrum , which I do have.

I did want to sideboard Steel Hellkite , at least. That will make some room. I'm torn over Avenger of Zendikar , though. With the Landfall those Plant tokens can get large quickly, especially in conjunction with Primeval Titan .

The lone Garruk was primarily for an Overrun and a bit of added ramp. But I love the idea of Seer's Sundial . This deck could abuse it!

You're fond of Weird Harvest , lol. I do like the card, so it's a tough spot due to the cost of Ancient Stirrings . The great thing about Weird Harvest is it allows me to search for any given creature, making my 1x ofs relevant. Sylvan Scrying and Explore would work well together. I also like the idea of Walking Atlas , but am unsure of what to remove.

Scapeshift is an awesome thought, as is Azusa, Lost but Seeking . Expensive cards... What do you think about Into the Wilds ? It would obviously work better if I could Index the top of my library, but I think it's worth considering.

And thanks for noticing the broken link lol. Also for the comments!

@Femme_Fatale Holy crap, Weird Harvest !!! I LOVE this card in play testing! And it's freaking cheap!!! The only problem I could see would be against a tempo/ control matchup where I may see Vendilion Clique or Snapcaster Mage . But I can always play around that :-)

I've made some changes. How does it look? Btw, Beast Within is stoooopid good in here, especially for LD. Tron has no chance!!!

Just throwing this out. If you want a competitive deck with Eldrazi try G/r Tron.

January 19, 2014 4:01 p.m.

Eh. I don't need Eldrazi to win, they're icing on the cake. I can hard cast Emrakul turn 5 with this build, though. Plus, this deck is a bit more rogue and harder to see coming.

I've play tested this against Tron and owned it. Jund is harder to beat, but with Wurmcoil Engine and Obstinate Baloth , I can stay in the game long enough to smash face. The hardest matchups would be Splinter Twin, Melira Pod, and Scapeshift. So I should tailor my sideboard accordingly.

Well that's awesome, a semi-rouge deck can beat 2-3 of the most competitive deck out there.

January 19, 2014 6:14 p.m.

@NateJH So are you just going to be an Uthden Troll or do you have anything constructive to say? If not, then say nothing at all. Thanks!

+1 very nice! I've been toying with landfall for a while and I really like you how tackle it!

These aren't specific suggestions or have any particular purpose (i.e. I don't necessarily recommend them over your other mainboard selections), but they fit along the lines of fatties if you're curious:

Vigor , Primeval Bounty , Doubling Season , Courser of Kruphix .

If you have a moment, I would also appreciate if you checked out Flash Flood... and no, not the card ha

This deck really would benefit from Courser of Kruphix .

Helps smooth out draws by playing lands for you and you gain 1 life (not that big of a deal with the life though...but it helps?)

He is a 2/4 so he can survive a lightning bolt and weenie attackers for long enough to get your fatties out.

March 19, 2014 2:24 p.m.

Thanks gents! I've toyed with Primeval Bounty and I'd rather have the card draw from the Sundial.

Doubling Season would be great in a build with more tokens, not too good here.

I DO like the 2/4 for 3 tho. Does it's ability count as your land drop or is it an extra one?

I shall scope your deck!

id drop like 2-4 of the big guys for some mid range stuff Elvish Piper would fit right in here and Weird Harvest dosnt screw you? also Green Sun's Zenith wouldnt be bad for a side board card that being said im still terrified of the eldrasies

March 19, 2014 7:27 p.m.

Elvish Piper has the largest "remove me" target on her forehead lol. I'd rather benefit from hardcasting my beasties.

Weird Harvest can be bad in certain matchups, and it's sided out. More often than not, it's quite useful. Thanks @Femme_Fatale!

GSZ is banned in Modern, hence my use of Weird Harvest . Next best is Chord of Calling , which is out of my budget at the moment. I have considered Tooth and Nail , which is also quite salty but on my acquire list.

I have All Is Dust and Beast Within to stave off Aggro for a few turns before I go off. I have contemplated dropping Avenger of Zendikar , though.

shadow63 says... #15

i agree with elvish piper being a target but she only needs to be out for one turn to complete change the game and i agree with droping the Avenger of Zendikar hes an awesome card but he dosnt seem to be right for this deck and that sucks about gsz why wizards why

March 20, 2014 2:47 p.m.

Summoning Trap in the sideboard allows me to drop a fattie at Instant speed :-)

How about Oran-Rief, the Vastwood ? Seems like a good easy fit here..

March 26, 2014 9:22 p.m.

That's a great suggestion. I have been wanting to acquire an Oran-Rief, the Vastwood anywho. I'll give it a whirl.

What do you think otherwise, @stasis416?

Hi @aeonstoremyliver

I think you might be able to make your deck faster/smoother. From what I can see, it appears the deck wants to do three things: 1. Hard-cast Eldrazi via your ramp2. Win via plant token overwhelm (less likely)3. Win via beats from green fatties or WC Engine

With that I have a few suggestions:

  1. I would try 1x Courser of Kruphix in place of 1x Solemn Simulacrum - This will help your landfall as well

  2. Consider replacing 1x Birds of Paradise for Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary - If your pulling all of that land out of your deck, you might as well take full advantage :) - Not sure if your keep this deck modern or what.

  3. Going off the same logic, I would replace 1x Tectonic Edge with 1x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx - Your early game is all green, this + Eldrazi Temple will help you power in your Eldrazi earlier, and give your more options.

  4. I dont know what formats your trying to keep this deck legal in, but I would look for something like Temple of the False God as well..

  5. I almost want to see something like Elixir of Immortality or Life from the Loam here..

March 27, 2014 9:18 a.m.

The cards in Standard ATM I think I'll wait on. I'm not to keen dropping cash on them until they drop or rotate. I have strongly considered Oracle of Mul Daya , but Coursier is a 2/4 and doesn't die to Bolt. We'll see... If they go down to $5 or less apiece, I'll pick them up.

My game plan is simple: ramp and beat. I have enough fatties to pose a serious threat as early as turn 3. The tokens and Eldrazi are icing on the cake. The ramp I have currently seems pretty efficient and consistent. To be faster, it'll require a much different build, which I'm playing with btw. Amulet of Vigor + bounce lands.

I may build a Modern Elf deck where Rofellos is key, but I don't see him benefitting this build.

Yeah, I'm keeping this Modern. Loam could be interesting to retrieve fetches, but Prime Time, Sad Robot, and the like help with that later.

YerpyMoose says... #23

What do you take out of your deck for each (general) matchup?

April 6, 2014 2:14 p.m.

That's why I run Seer's Sundial . Perfect for this deck. I may run Garruk, Primal Hunter too, if I can trade for one.

Matchups/sideboard stuff... Well I try to side out dead draws, like All Is Dust against Affinity/Robots, for Creeping Corrosion , for instance. If I need something in and don't know what to take out, I usually start with singletons, unless they're my win-con. I try to side in/out similar CMC to keep within my curve.

Tron is fairly easy due to my maindeck Tectonic Edge and Beast Within . I'd side out AiD for Slime and BW/in.

Pod is an interesting matchup. I may actually run Surgical Extraction to hose infinite Persist crap. I can kill a Pod with Beast Within or Acidic Slime to slow down their game plan. Torpor Orb also wrecks my deck, but I may decide to run it anyway. I'll have to see.

Jund sucks. Hand disruption and removal sucks. But, you can play around it some, utilizing Weird Harvest to fetch something that you need. If you can survive Jund for long enough, you've won with this deck. Obstinate Baloth goes in for sure.

Control usually loses to Aggro/Ramp. My bombs are bigger and I'll resolve something eventually :-)

Combo decks like Storm can be rough, as they're aren't many maindeck answers for them.

Horn of Greed will be going into my EDH deck where it will get abused and I can draw all the cards :-)

You could put in some Panglacial Wurm for a potential turn 2 win since you have fetch lands
