A dragon is the ultimate pirate captain because dragons are the epitome of everything a pirate is. A dragon is flamboyant and colorful and intimidating, and a pirate has a natural love a treasure and a secondary love of capturing maidens. They're the scourge of kingdoms! It's pretty much great.

The backstory I've written here is that Korvold was once a king, who got cursed by a faerie with insatiable hunger. But eventually, his kingdom coffers emptied; what is a king to do? That's right, take to the seas, robbing the riches of all the world's Kingdoms. Y'argh.

Mechanically, this deck is surprisingly efficient; Pirates do a lot with treasure artifacts, and when Korvold is out, treasures will make him bigger and, more importantly, draw you cards. You miss out on some very good blue pirates, but you keep the red ones from Commander Legends and Ixalan, and the black ones from Ixalan. And no one will say no to a cultivate.
