Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker was one of my very first legendary creatures I ever pulled in magic, and was the first card I ever started to brew around.

I have tried many variations of building decks around it and several different formats. I find that Commander/EDH seems to be the right home.

I see many versions of Shirei using Shadowborn Apostle and I don't have any interest in that style of deck. I have always loved abusing the mana abilities and discard abilities, and Grave Pact effects to punish the table and lock them out with Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker’s ability.

This is a combo build that takes time. It's not a fast deck by any means but I have been able to goldfish to a combo usually around turn 7, fairly consistently. I’m hoping that upping the discard effects in the deck will be oppressive enough to keep my opponents at bay while I establish my Reassembling Skeleton+Phyrexian Altar combo. Having 3 different Pawn of Ulamog effects and ample tutor options, I believe, should get me there.

This is an “all-in” strategy which is why there isn’t much removal or other answers in the deck other than the discard effects

Trying to make the decks “go off” faster for more competitive gameplay. I want this one to be my oppressive, tournament deck
