This is an upgraded "Hosts of Mordor" preconstructed deck. The original list was created by Rachel Weeks as found on Moxfield in December 2023: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/V12xrhtP6kSzvO4UNLo52A. All additions are cards from within the Lord of the Rings universe.

Primary Commander: Sauron, Lord of the Rings

Alternate Commander(s): Sauron, the Dark Lord, Saruman, the White Hand

Major Theme(s): Graveyard recursion

Subtheme(s): The Ring Tempts You, Amass Orcs

Primary Win Condition: Fill your graveyard with large, powerful creatures and bring them back with your commander or with cards like Reanimate or Living Death, then use them to overpower your opponents

Backup Win Condition: Commander damage

Infinite Combos: None

Non-land Tutors: None

This deck is filled with big, nasty creatures but none are bigger than your commander, Sauron, Lord of the Rings. In the early turns, you want to play ramp spells like Sol Ring, Worn Powerstone, and Relic of Sauron to help you get to your commander quicker. You also want to start filling your graveyard in anticipation of Sauron's enters-the-battlefield trigger. Cards like Faithless Looting and Moria Scavenger are great for this, but you can also cycle away creatures like Oliphaunt, Troll of Khazad-dum, Rampaging War Mammoth, or The Balrog of Moria - you get the benefits from the cycle right away and then get the big body back later!

Once Sauron comes down, not only do you get a creature back from your graveyard, but you also get to fill your graveyard more by milling five cards. The deck takes advantage of this by playing cards that want to be in the graveyard such as Anger, creatures that can return from the graveyard such as Gollum, Patient Plotter, and cards with flashback like Deep Analysis, Lidless Gaze, and Wake the Dragon. You can also bring creatures back from the graveyard with spells such as Reanimate, Extract from Darkness, and Living Death.

Other powerful, synergistic creatures in the deck include Cavern-Hoard Dragon, Knollspine Dragon, Witch-king of Angmar, and alternate commanders Saruman, the White Hand and Sauron, the Dark Lord. You can then use Subjugate the Hobbits to remove all the weenies in your way and beat face!

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

I am a casual, budget player and my goal is to always keep my commander decks within $100 or close to it. Any suggestions to improve the deck while still keeping it within budget, and while also keeping all the cards specific to Lord of the Rings, are appreciated!
