Strands of Undeath

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature

When Strands of Undeath enters the battlefield, target player discards two cards.

: Regenerate enchanted creature. (The next time this creature would be destroyed this turn, this creature isn't destroyed. Instead tap this, remove all damage from this, and remove this creature from combat.)

Hi,

This looks pretty cool. Even without Tergrid, your deck will make it hard for opponents to establish a board-presence with creatures. I would really throw in a Torment of Hailfire; it fits so well with the overall theme. Then there's your opportunity for additional draw; the deck contains maybe five options for that; most being non-recurring. Ideally, EDH decks should carry around maybe 10 on average. Some ideas: Geth's Grimoire, Tinybones, Trinket Thief, Phyrexian Arena and Underworld Connections.

I see you've included a lot of mana-artifacts, so also including Desolation might make sense from that point of view, but ... I dunno. It seems like you've sacrificed all your artifact utility slots for artifact mana slots in order to use this card. And there are so many interesting artifact utilities you now don't have space for, like the aformentioned Grimoire but also other stuff that would really fit the theme like Smokestack, Bolas's Citadel, Anvil of Bogardan, etc.

Lastly, I would really recommend replacing Enslave, Inevitable End and Strands of Undeath with enchantments that allow you to benefit from and/or punishing others for discarding/sacrificing; black has so many nice options to choose from for this like Megrim, Liliana's Caress, Raiders' Wake, Waste Not and Bloodchief Ascension.

Have fun with the deck.

Thanks king-saproling. It's been playing well.

Temporal Isolation as removal? Perhaps to replace Blood Curdle , which is only good if I've switched to a heroic creature.

Soul Channeling to replace Blessing of Leeches is a coin flip. I admittedly have a soft spot for Kamigawa and Rebecca Guay. I also enjoy the flash as a response to combat or removal.

Skeletal Grimace to replace Strands of Undeath is also a coin flip. I like the card advantage it offers.

Thanks for the suggestions Tr_iHard! Nice to see someone approaching this commander from a similar angle. Cannibalize is just awesome, I'll have a look at how I can fit it in here.

As far as Rime Transfusion and Skeletal Grimace go, they were both in the early drafts of this deck but eventually I realized that they don't quite work the way I wanted them to. They both grant an activated ability to the creature itself, meaning the creature's controller would get to choose whether to activate, not me. Disappointing as it is, sticking with cards like Blessing of Leeches, Strands of Undeath, etc. where the ability is attached to the aura itself (leaving me as the one who decides to activate it) will have to do.

Yes, you're allowed to do that. Because Strands of Undeath doesn't specify "creature you control", that means it can enchant any creature. Also, you're the only one who's allowed to activate the regeneration ability, since it's an ability of Strands and you're the one who controls it.
