Trinkets Ahoy
Haldarious, 8 years ago
-Typhoid Rats, Swamp, Annihilate
+Trinket Mage, Darksteel Citadel, Infiltration Lens
Trinket Mage actually does some decent work. It can fetch mill (Altar of the Brood, Codex Shredder), mana (Sol Ring, Darksteel Citadel) or stuff to suit up Wrexial (Infiltration Lens). Considering Brittle Effigy as well.

Finally got my hands on Noble Hierarch! Updated my mainboard and sideboard.
Workin on it
CaptainBuzzkillBaker, 8 years ago
Im going to be working on what i think the sideboard should consist of and possible upgrades for the deck, the deck is going to be changing a lot as I try and figure out ways to improve how it works (I already have a few ideas in mind) so stay tuned if you wanna see this deck evolve
Attempting to focus the deck's purpose
TheCambodianHammer, 8 years ago
So for a while this deck has been sitting in this weird limbo of not being competitive, but also no fun to play against in casual EDH. I think that I'm finally just going to tweak it into a comp. control list, and from there just build a fun mimeoplasm/damia list for the casual tables. This means that most of the reanimation shenanigans will be cut (possibly even jin too). I think I could replace those cards with a mucktide package and call it a day.
Doubly fixing the lands.
SirLag, 8 years ago
I've swapped a number of the basic lands for dual lands with interesting effects, as well as the older cycle lands for extra card draw in a pinch

Playtesting changes
MegaMatt13, 8 years ago
A number of changes based on playtesting. Taking out cards that underwhelmed me in practice:
Mystifying Maze ---> Kor Haven: I should have purchased Kor Haven a long time ago. It's far better than Mystifying Maze. It's ability only costs 2 mana to the Maze's 4 mana. Plus the Maze had the strange side effect of "flickering" the opponent's creature, giving him any ETB effects the creature may have.
Nevinyrral's Disk ---> Austere Command: When I want a sweeper, I want it NOW. The waiting a turn for the disk was often too much. Austere Command is a beautifully flexible card with its modal choices of what to sweep.
Blasphemous Act --->Path to Exile: The deck doesn't need as many sweepers as my other control decks. My other sweepers have the upside of either flexibility of what they remove or they bypass indestructibility and graveyard shenanigans. Blasphemous Act had neither of these upsides. I much prefer the targeted removal of threats at instant speed that Path to Exile gives.
Rite of the Raging Storm ---> Backlash: the Rite was a fun card but often not high impact enough. Also, it was a "non-bo" with Kismet/Blind Obedience/Authority of the Consuls since the creature I was giving to my opponents to hit each other with would come into play tapped. I decided to add Backlash as a second Delirium. The "untapped creature" clause is a bit annoying but I'm willing to test it out.
Marchesa's Decree ---> Norn's Annex: I've discovered that I really don't need any other cards that interact with the Monarch mechanic. Norn's Annex imposes a higher cost on opponents for attacking than Marchesa's Decree.
Mountain ---> Tainted Remedy: The average CMC of the deck has dropped and the Monarch mechanic helps ensure I hit my land drops. I'm going to test running one fewer lands. My playgroup does have some lifegain decks floating around. I found I was weak to this so I'm bringing back Tainted Remedy.

This is the Hour...

Making a few changes due to the new HOU spoilers:
- Adding Scavenger Grounds. Actually adding that to most decks. Another way to deal with graveyard-dependent decks without much drawback. Can also be tutored by Tolaria West. Removed a mountain to make room.
- Also going to try out The Locust God. This deck can be quite light on bombs/big threats, and this one just seems great with Niv. Removing Mystical Tutor for now.
Cheers

more results: 2-2

Finally broke even!
I was running Empty the Pits this time in place of Painful Quandary.
- SKRED (2-0)
Blood Moon does nothing against this deck. Interestingly enough, I ran Eternal Scourge and he didn't. Koth wasn't a big deal since he got mana screwed from all the pox and discard. The 1 time it resolved he got a Pithing Needle.
- MONOWHITE CONTROL (2-1)
This was a weird deck. Counterspells in mono white with Myth Realized as a finisher. Lost game 1 from not finding a threat in time. Games 2 and 3 went very slow. He brought in Fragmentize for The Rack. Eventually I stuck 1 and Extirpated his answers away.
- JUND (1-2) (close!)
The first game went really fast with 2 racks on the field and his lilana of the veil helping me out. The next 2 were very close games with a lot of big swinging plays that we each came back from. I remember he ult Lili game 2 to remove my racks, then he swung in for less than lethal and on end step I dropped 5 zombies on the field (should have really gone for it and made 6 out of Raven's Crime and Dakmor Salvage). I had to hold 2 back for blocks next turn, and would have had it, but he topdecked Lightning Bolt and killed me. Then game 3 I discarded a Tarmogoyf and Extirpated 2 more from his hand. Came down to a very similar situation, him at 5 life lucking out with Dark Confidant drawing lands for 4 turns in a row.
- GRIXIS SHADOW (0-2)
Super fast opening game 1 dropping 3 shadows and killing me before I could get any removal. Game 2, kept a hand full of removal. He used IoK to look and the game dragged on long enough for me to lose all my removal. I think the lesson here is keep mixed hands of discard/removal.
Thoughts:
-
Empty the Pits is sweet and no one sees it coming. You can even tutor for it with Necrogen Mists out then cast it after you untap in response to the trigger. Not as effective as having the opponent go all in, but in an empty board it could work too.
-
I side board wrong still. I keep siding out Necrogen Mists which is the wrong thing to do if they are bringing in Leyline of Sanctity or grave hate and they are more cautious with their hand size. Every game I lost I felt like I wasn't able to empty their hand quick enough.
-
Necroplasm won me 2 games as a finisher! He's pretty good if your opponent isn't playing Path to Exile and is in top deck mode.
-
Beseech the Queen was MVP overall. I would consider running a 2nd tutor maybe Dimir Machinations to mess with Dark Confidant.
