Magic 2015 Update

GoSuckOnACactus, 11 years ago

-1 Hive Mind, Gruul Signet, Woodfall Primus, Rings of Brighthearth, Warstorm Surge

+1 Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir, Nature's Lore, Reclamation Sage, Time Spiral, Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Hive Mind doesn't do much, but Teferi can help with Possibility Storm!

Gruul Signet went into a different deck, and I replaced it with the superior (in this deck anyway) Nature's Lore.

Sage can be cascaded into, while Primus cannot. Yes Primus is more powerful, but Sage is better for this particular deck (for the type of deck I am going for).

Rings doesn't do a whole lot in this deck, and is a very feel bad card when I cascade into it. I'm hoping Time Spiral will be a little more chaotic, and it will generally be much more powerful than Rings.

The surge just doesn't really do anything besides damage (which is sweet) so it doesn't offer enough utility. Jace can brainstorm, which is sweet with Cascade, he can bounce my cascaders, and he can clear junk off the top.

Sideboard

Mongol, 11 years ago

I've made some changes to the sideboard as well as the main board.

I've removed Devour Flesh as I felt I already had enough options for sacrificing creatures, and its originally intended purpose of potentially saving me from a transformed Ravenous Demon  Flip that doesn't have a human ready to gut, wasn't really necessary anyway. I've added Dash Hopes to the main board, because hope shouldn't be an option when you're a lamb lined up for slaughter.

Crypt Incursion for anti self mill decks that benefit from abilities like scavenge and dredge. Also can be used with the numerous amount of creatures that end up in my own graveyard in case there is dire need.

Stain the Mind has been added to the sideboard as I see this as a perfect card to counter against any of the major card threats out there, and it synergizes well with convoke and all the creatures this deck can produce.

Stir the Grave is a good alternative to Immortal Servitude to bring back a creature for an emergency, plus it works better to bring back Skirsdag High Priest or Xathrid Necromancer with their higher than 1 CMC.

Bone Splinters in case I need early or late removal options.

Altar's Reap for shits and giggles. Sometimes I find myself top decking a little too much.

Still looking for other good sideboard possibilities.

Won 12 man Standard with 3-1 Record

Agog, 11 years ago

Won a small Standard competition sponsored by the Sentry Box

2-0 vs Wr Devotion Deck
2-1 vs BGw Mid-Range Deck
2-0 vs Mono Black Deck
0-2 vs WGu Mid-Range

Generally the second game I would sideboard into the mid-range configuration as everyone regeared their decks to take care of the weenies.

Thoughtseize was a fine performer in the games.

Removal needed

jedc22, 11 years ago

While the deck has been working really well while testing against decks with smaller creatures like boros, testing against things like R/G creatures was tough due to not being able to get by their creatures once they got any sort of presence. I also have nothing to use mana for after I hit 3-4, mana becomes a dead draw. Therefore I'm taking out some spells for more removal, and taking out a couple of creatures for a few big guys.

-2 Cruel Feeding

-1 Thoughtseize

-1 Gift of Orzhova

-2 Thrill-Kill Assassin

+2 Doom Blade

+1 Whip of Erebos

+2 Desecration Demon

+1 Hall of Triumph

1: M15 and Finessing

SlickWizard, 11 years ago

Started playing with the number in the deck to see which amount of creatures is the right amount to play with. M15 doesn't bring much to the table for this deck except for the possibility to play Ajani Steadfast or Nissa, Worldwaker. It could be possible that Genesis Hydra is a fine inclusion but it would have to sit at the top of the curve for it to reliably hit threats and not land, removal, or cards with CMC to high to select.

I'm also considering adding in Chandra, Pyromaster in mirror matches and other games where killing little creatures or getting past larger ones is important.

Added Primal Vigor, Doubling Season, and Parallel Lives to push the token production over the top

Added Angelic Accord and a couple of cards for healing. Probably going to add Archangel of Thune, Sunbond, Angelic Chorus, Proper Burial. Maybe not all of them, but I'd like to replace the cards in my deck that aren't doing anything to support either ramp, tokens, or life gain

small change

daemon_panda, 11 years ago

Took out curiosity and a W/U card who's name I forgot.

test play

daemon_panda, 11 years ago

I tested against a Daxos of Meletis deck and I completely revamped the lands afterwards and made a few changes. I accidentally erased my notes of the changes.

Deck Adjustments

Bedlam, 11 years ago

Siege Dragon is just silly in this deck, so having an extra Generator Servant helps put that nasty dragon in play quickly. Curse of the Swine is added to control the board, but it also syncs up well with Siege Dragon and a pair of Circle of Flames in play.

I know I budged from playing post rotation, but I really wanted to play with Goblin Diplomats. It works well with the Circle of Flame + Polymorphist's Jest and he synergizes with Goblin Rabblemaster.

The deck is a ton of fun! You're always keeping your opponent on his toes.

Good bye, Welkin Tern

Henraaa, 11 years ago

Had to remove the Welkin Tern and Bident of Thassa to make the Triton Shorestalker a playset, and returned the Hypnotic Sirens back to the deck.

It was really painful to kill-off the Welkin Tern. I feel so Game of Thrones. :(

Serum Visions

Strawlies, 11 years ago

After realizing that the reason to run Serum Visions is to improve the mana curve/efficiency, changed 3 Peer through Depths and a land to 4 Serum Vision.

Scapeshift feature for Giftshift

Still At It

Raishen717, 11 years ago

daveandkenz I had been thinking the same, but just wasn't sure what to exchange it for. Dismember is nice since you don't have to worry about the mana as much. Also I'd much rather just not have to worry about their creatures instead of constantly blocking them.

spyroswiz I upped the number of Ghost Quarter and added an additional Archive Trap

Updates based on suggestions

Bruxo, 11 years ago

-> Exchanged Rakdos's Return for Clan Defiance since this one can clean up to two creatures + damage to the opponent.
-> Added x2 Dragonskull Summit and x2 Rootbound Crag that made the deck less suceptible to mana problems.
-> Exchanged Torrent of Souls for Hit / Run because it's faster and more flexible to use.
MDN 5 / 13
Mycoloth feature for Jund Reborn
