Apoptosis on Smile all the way

I lost track of my tinkering on this build, but had optimized it in various ways always focusing on a "toolbox" build with heavy tutors. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I hadn't recorded those changes before deciding to take Alesha in two different ways, which produced two new decks, which I lovingly call "Naughty" and "Nice". More soon.

Note that Belcher doesn't only snipe someone, you also get to put your deck in any order which usually sets you up for a win especially since you get to snipe the most threatening player. The classic move for me is pass turn, use it on EOT before my turn, put Temporal Mastery on top, then belch the other 2 during back to back turns. Still I get it if it's a bit too expensive for your curve, but if you are struggling to combo thru stax Belcher is a great sidestep imo and only costs 1 slot.

The versatility of this is awesome! Probably not a good suggestion, but since you run Bitterblossom, you could also try Bitterbloom Bearer which got printed for the first time recently.

Thank you guys for the input! This is only a first draft and I have recently picked up some more cards for the list that I need to add. I am definitely looking to improve the list. I’ve never played a deck like this and am still learning some of the best choices for the archetype. I welcome all of your input.

Goblin Charbelcher has been a conflicting matter for me. My general idea for this deck has been to have a turbo 5c build (turbo rog/si or rog/reyhan would be the standard, as honestly trying to build turbo without Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh is a bit iffy), so the obvious answer is that other win-cons (eg. Destroy the Evidence or Lively Dirge, etc...) would be less mana, and wins the whole game (rather than ousting a player, and making yourself global enemy #1). I tend to think that even citadel is a little better (for the reasons above) even if it needs tons of black pips, but that is much harder to say and more a matter of preference. With that said RIP effects are the true killer for this deck right now, and I don't have a super easy way to get around that in the current list (other than play faster, though that doesn't work against the leyline). Currently my easiest way to win around such effects is tutoring thoracle and hard casting it. RoL effects aren't so much as a hassle - I won't be winning in one turn, but charbelcher wasn't going to anyway. My standard coping mechanism with that is Memory's Journey which I can do on someone else's turn (or my next upkeep if I don't have mana open) to get back Reanimate -> thoracle. The two MDFCs really got the cut just because entering tapped is a big downside when (trying to) go fast. I very much see the appeal of a more staxy battlecruiser-y build (this deck definitely lacks consistency, and dies to stax).

Awesome, love seeing all spells in edh and this looks like a strong list. I too brewed an all spells minstrel deck but mine is very different, it focuses on using the higher cmcs to enable a Timesifter lock alongside some other strats. This looks a lot more competitive and low to the ground. Have you considered Goblin Charbelcher as an alt wincon to get around RIP and RoL sorts of effects? Also rec Bala Ged Recovery  Flip and Valakut Awakening  Flip as these are some of the most useful spell effects on any mdfc imo and good colors for you. If you want to check out my version you can find it here!

I have replaced Narset Transcendent with Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, which unfortunately increased the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.60 to 3.62, but I can accept that, as Teferi is generally much more powerful than is Narset.

DragonMaster420 thank you, I’m aware. I prefer the Fyndhorn elves art work over the elvish mystic. It’s functionally the same card. I don’t play in tournaments or competitively so the legality of the card really didn’t factor in. I did it more for the aesthetics and the theme.

SufferFromEDHD, I love shadow. My mono black is my favorite deck. I like the Swiss army knife idea.

I am not a fan of repeats, so Quietus Spike is a no go. I play it elsewhere.

I have been thinking on Maze of Shadows a while actually. Great suggestion.

True-Name Nemesis fits the immunity theme, but not the theme happening among the creature section in my opinion.

Long-Term Plans is a great idea. I do feel however that Academy Rector fits the needs of a tutor and the unblockable theme since no one is going to want to kill it if they can help it. I will think on it a bit. Long-Term Plans can get anything... so, it is a hard choice.

SufferFromEDHD on Competitive Shadow Tribal [Primer]

Cool concept! I went the Dimir direction for shadow to go all in on the gimmicky direction of "cipher tribal" Arcane Heist (swiss army knife), Hands of Binding (control) and Hidden Strings (untap your friends) are the only ones worth considering here.

Quietus Spike cute with shadow

Maze of Shadows narrow but tech against theft

True-Name Nemesis > Hunted Phantasm

I can't believe I'm about to suggest this but I don't like Academy Rector here. You run 0 sac outlets! Long-Term Plans instead?

Balaam__ - I didn't know it was possible either, but was happy to have an excuse to try and figure it out :-D

legendofa - Oooh, yeah, I totally forgot about the set codes. And unfortunately I don't think Scryfall can drop single letters from a set (e.g., "-set:f" doesn't work like we'd hope, we'd have to add "(-set:fin AND -set:afr AND ...)" for every set code with an F in it. And tbh, I'm not sure if that's faster than just scanning them manually ...

Either way though: Great catch; thanks!

Hey Venum,

I think the whole new slivers incoming!? was for sure 90% of the hype behind Thrumming Hivepool. Despite that I went and acquired a copy anyway- because Slivers. But upon closer inspection I won't even slot it into this deck, it just lacks that "oomph" (see my whole rant about the card on my deck update). The closest thing to the card I wanted Thrumming Hivepool to be was Chronicle of Victory. Slivers overall need more - more concrete lore that firmly establishes their point of origin and their connection to Phyrexia (due to Volrath getting his grubby humanoid hands on the Sliver Queen *oversized*, forcing her to be his minion). Also, we need more Slivers who can provide interesting and varied options for play - e.g.

  • a Legendary Sliver that says all slivers gain each opponent mills a card equal to this creature's power
  • a Legendary Sliver that can end the turn for a cost and gives all Slivers myriad

Something fresh, but also powerful. What new takes on Slivers would you like to see? (really this is for anyone, not just you Venum)

I run Trouble in Pairs in my vampire deck The Nobility Are Athirst and it can be hit or miss. Not a home run by any means, but not so terrible i'd cut it. Honestly, it's the closest thing to a Rhystic Study monowhite is ever going to get, so by all means i'll run it there - but since this deck has access to blue, why bother running it? Study and Mystic Remora are all I need for my tax n' draw requirements.

Fist of Suns + Morophon, the Boundless + Yawgmoth's Will seems neat but you'll need another piece of the engine that keeps the cards flowing. Getting access to your graveyard is only good when it's full of powerful spells - because anything you cast that turn will go to exile. I can't say it's a combo worth having unless you can reliably keep a full grip. What was your intention with the combo?

I have a question for you (or really, anyone reading this) - do you think Slivers will make an appearance in the future Reality Fracture set? OR will they show up in Star Trek? Or both?

Looks great. My only thought is whether you really get more value out of Thud as opposed to Fling. It’s cheaper to cast and can hit Planeswalkers, but it can’t play at Instant speed. Being able to use Fling on an opponent’s turn is hard to disregard.

Yeah, Troll and Yargle were just there when I was first putting it together. For the first day I was mostly looking at things that had a big difference in their P/T, and then looking at the abilities of the creatures before I finally came across Belligerent Brontodon. That was when I started focusing on Toughness specifically

The day I uploaded this deck was the day I had my first actual game with it, and I planned on buying some singles at the store it was hosted at. Unfortunately they didn't have anywhere near as many as I wanted, so it was a good thing that I brought Yargle and Troll as a backup

I'll definitely look into my Return to Zendikar collection in case I missed Angel of Destiny, though looking at its abilities, I don't see how I could have, Either way, I think I'll be adding it to the list along with most of your suggestions
