I'm going to say that U-Tron has a nice position against Abzan. It's control-ish, is fairly quick, and Sundering Titan and Wurmcoil Engine are amazing against Abzan's land base and Rhino/Goyf/Taz respectively.

Against Tectonic Edge without tutors? I'm not convinced it's consistent enough.
However landing on of those creatures will certainly swing the game in your favor by a lot

Abzan lists typically run one Tectonic Edge, so that's not any worry with the four Expedition Map and four of each tron land. And U-Tron has a ton of card draw. Thirst for Knowledge, Remand, Solemn Simulacrum, Aether Spellbomb occasionally... not to mention that Treasure Mage acts as a tutor for biggeys. Academy Ruins + Mindslaver works as a secondary win-con, and Academy Ruins alone recurs your threats left out by discard.
April 28, 2015 6:18 p.m.
Noted.
Dont think itll work with my meta though since, I dont want to play mirror match tron with whoever it is.. and I also dont think I can survive all the janky aggro decks without consistently getting the Mindslaver lock. : /
April 28, 2015 6:19 p.m.
Its also not true abzan.. its G/W Little Kid.. but with no Kitchen Finks and everything in the deck is a 4 of.. far as I know.. 3 of Qasali Pridemage.. 4 of Thoughtseize..

R/G Tron is a terrible match-up for it. But against aggro, use Cyclonic Rift to keep the board fairly clean until you get Wurmy out, and claim that life back. The Mindslaver Combo is definitely not the only way to win, far from it.

That's true tec isn't in multiples.
I haven't played against a whole lot of u-tron, but I guess as long as you can draw the urza lands you're good, because like you said, you can tutor the big artifacts. And the second win-con sounds like a casual joke by taking their turns for them, but it's not out of possibility at all
Remand makes me feel like I wasted a whole turn! Mainly because I did lol.
And post sb Abzan will be a lot tougher with Fulminator Mage seeing 3 spots! Atleast in a good amount of decks I've looked at
April 28, 2015 6:28 p.m.
Well, Tron I dont think is gonna have a good time in my meta... but at the same time, its a bunch of standard aggro decks with cheap lands or really bad really slow sliver decks, and the 3 competitive players..
One of which I know plays a blue control and a blue tron deck.
The other I know is playing Abzan and I cant wait to Ghost Quarter his land again and have him try to pull that Spellskite redirect bs.. Ill let him pay his life out sure.. but its still not a legal target.. I wont that one anyways.. he boarded out I have no idea what..
This is as close to his list as I can remember.. Also some of which he told me after the match.
With burn, the thought of running out of gas just bothers me.. but I dont know what can be done about it.. its probably still too much for this meta to handle so.

Most lists don't but its where ill go of Anticipate is shit lemmingllama.
Putrefy have you played twin before? The "Tempo"plan is just as fragile as the combo.

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #12
SpartanCEL The second win-con is actually pretty easy to obtain. And ridiculously fun to pull off :) Unlike R/G Tron though, you don't follow an "all-in" strategy where you try to get the lands and creatures as fast as possible. You can quite often win in U-Tron without the Urza lands thanks to stalling and quick ramping. So while Fulminator Mage is annoying, you can definitely win with it around.
April 28, 2015 6:51 p.m.
I just realized I could be running Crackling Doom to deal with voice tokens and Siege Rhinos.. over Murderous Cut or Path to Exile... Though I may still need a Kor Firewalker answer..

I'm very new to Modern, and I've been playtesting some different decks that seem like fun. And I feel like I'm missing something because I know UR Storm is Tier 1 or Tier 2 at the very least, but can someone explain to me why UR Storm is a better deck then Twiddle Storm?
I've been playtesting Twiddle storm and it seems to go off with way more consistently than Storm, plus it seems to interact better with the board since it can tap down laps or creatures in a pinch, plus it runs Gifts Ungiven which just seems to make everything cleaner.
All of that on top of the fact that Twiddle storm doesn't rely on the super fragile Goblin Electromancer
What am I missing here?
April 28, 2015 7:09 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #15
U/R Storm is insanely more consistent because it's just about impossible to disrupt once it gets going. Where as Twiddle is, it's just slower really.

I officially cannot spell. I meant "where as Twiddle is great".

FAMOUSWATERMELON ahhh! interesting. You must be the resident u-tron player;) I thought about building it, I have Remand and Gitaxian Probe, and my friend has singletons of the urza lands. Is it fun to play? I mean, control has it's merits but I don't want to build a boring deck, and budget would be semi issue like no Karn Liberated any time soon if it runs it
someone should make a black tron with Elbrus, the Binding Blade Flip and cards like Tormented Soul....maybe I will
April 28, 2015 8:34 p.m.
FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #19
"Resident U-Tron player"? Certainly not. I prefer control-type decks, and the reason I like U-Tron is just because of that control aspect. I detest R/G Tron. Karn Liberated is not necessary, far from it. It actually clogs up spaces and can't be tutored or discarded with Thirst for Knowledge. Here's a list of mine if you're interested. Not done with the primer yet though :(
Black Tron sounds interesting.

My b you just seemed very knowledgeable so I assumed.
Anyway, Treasure Mage hits like 100% of your win conditions which is pretty op. 1 Mindslaver? Is it because you can search? or just don't need more?
Dimir tron is appealing more and more. Night's Whisperesk abilities from black, Mono Black Tron has some interesting cards, Exsanguinate for 7 sounds really fun
April 28, 2015 8:55 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #21
You only want 1 Mindslaver because getting anymore in hand is redundant since you can reuse it with Academy Ruins.

FAMOUSWATERMELON says... #22
And besides you really don't need it. Screw infinites, just bash face with Wurmcoil and co :)

I have used the world engine(it should be called that) and it's rediculous.

I really want to build a deck around Bushi Tenderfoot and Righteousness for the sake of pure awesomeness but I have no idea where to go with it. Anybody have any ideas?

THAT is an awesome idea!! I would try white weenies. There's a list here of a bunch of those decks for some ideas.

Become Immense too...

Ive been working on an idea lately. What does everyone think of a delver deck that has a sub focus of land disruption. So it is the typical ur delver shell but mainboard Blood Moon and Spreading Seas. In testing its been doing well. Even against decks like twin where the land disruption shouldn't really play a factor.
April 28, 2015 11:06 p.m.
I thought blue moon wasnt a tempo deck. I thought it was straight up control. Maybe I'll check it out now.

I've been playing Modern for a few months now, and over that time I have built and played heavily a R/W Burn list. Recently with the addition of Atarka's Command, I transitioned it into Naya. It's been doing quite well for me.. But I'm growing bored of playing the Burn archetype..
Could anyone shoot me some suggestions of archetypes that aren't ungodly expensive? I really have no clue what style of deck I want to play next, and I've examined a lot of the popular stuff like Delver, Abzan, Tron, and such.. But I want something spicy. Thanks in advance! :D
April 29, 2015 12:57 a.m.
There are a lot of restrictions which make this hard to pull off but here's a truly awesome combo in terms of damage and difficulty that you might consider "Spicy".
1x Tasigur, the Golden Fang
2x Xenagos, the Reveler
9 Creatures on board (including Tasigur)
A basically empty deck and almost empty graveyard.
One of your Xenagos, the Reveler is on the board. One is in the graveyard. Activate Xenagos getting 9 mana. Use 4 to activate Tasigur. with 5 mana left you cast the Xenagos in the yard and + it up to 10 mana. Use 8 total to activate tasigur and cast the one in the yard. You go down to 2 mana but then plus the newest one getting 9 more mana, or 11. You have infinite mana. Now with you're infinite mana you start using the xenagos to make 1,000 2/2 Satyr's with Haste.
GG you won. I did this at a standard tournament, and it was insane. I found the combo by accident truthfully but it was the sickest thing i've ever done in MTG. The combo can work in a Rock jund deck, or reanimate/deck filter living end situation if you're willing to give up 2 spots for Xenagos.
April 29, 2015 1:10 a.m.
Eh, I think there is no point in giving up the speed of by adding green alone because all of the super powerful
creatures are killing by the majority of the following:
Abrupt Decay
Lightning Bolt
Go for the Throat
Doom Blade
Path to Exile
I mean I have a hard time finding a creature which is quick enough to race splinter twin that isn't removable by 4/5 of the things on even that quick list. Tarmogoyf is pretty much as good as green will ever get for a 2 drop in terms of aggro and even Goyf decks typically have either or
for counters or Golgari Charm to stymie the Deceiver Exarch combo by giving them all -1/-1 till end of turn.
Perhaps if there is some green creature with flash that can be cast in response to EoT Deceiver Exarch G/R could become a thing. It doesn't need to beat twin, just have good tools for stopping it.
April 29, 2015 2 a.m.
I dont see how your getting to 9 creatures on board and haven't already won that game yet...
April 29, 2015 2:02 a.m.
Heh in standard the guy was using a Mastery of the Unseen super manifest deck so even though I had the following:
3x Master of the Feast
1x Mogis, God of Spite
2x Courser of Kruphix
1x Tasigur, the Golden Fang
2x Sylvan Caryatid
1x Whip of Erebos
1x Dictate of Erebos
He was still gaining around 30 life a turn.
For modern I think it would have to be a Living Death or Living End type of situation, with gratuitous amounts of Golgari Charm, Abrupt Decay and other removal main, as well as 16-20 powerful modern creatures like Goyf, Fulminator Mage, maybe Thragtusk, and whatever else are the best "midrange" Jund creatures.
April 29, 2015 2:09 a.m.
kengiczar Yeh can run that if yeh want.. Ill just make sure to mulligan to Path to Exile and hope to topdeck my Hero of Bladehold.. (7 power on board alone.. If not interacted with..)
April 29, 2015 2:54 a.m.
Could have sworn there was a gruul beats list somewhere.. but everything that comes up is proto-zoo.. They end up adding other colors to make it viable..
April 29, 2015 3:37 a.m.
With fetchlands in the format there's almost no point NOT adding a third colour.
