Thassa Seamonster/Control

Commander / EDH

LegendarySanch

Maybeboard

I've always loved mono blue control decks so here is my EDH version.

General is Thassa because you can get her out early, she immediately helps out finding the cards you need, and shes somewhat more lowkey than some of my other blue options (several of which are in the 99).

Thassa and counterspells was my original idea, with a lot of scrying and drawing. I realized I had several seamonster cards such as Thing in the Ice, Shipbreaker Kraken, Stormtide Leviathan, and the sea-related bounce spells, so I decided to just make a sea-monster subtheme. These big guys all have the potential to finish, especially after bouncing the rest of the board, however I wanted alternative ways to blow up if need be. In comes Strionic Resonator, which combos with almost every creature and effect I have in play. From hitting all 3 players with Emrakul's mindslaver, multiplying my card draws from Dictate of Kruphix, to making my own Rite of Replication by copying Strionic Resonator with Stolen Identity, I dont go infinite but I make a pretty oppressive board state.

A note on endgame and my meta: I have enter the infinite, I could very easily win by putting in laboratory maniac. My meta is competetive but budget, no individual card over $20 and decks are usually under $100, and no one has a deck that 1. goes infinite or 2. combo auto-wins. With mostly restructured precons and goodstuff decks, I don't want Maniac in the 99 (yet). The same goes with Omniscience. I want to cast a lot after Enter the Infinite but not everything.

I have an issue however, I think, that I am trying to do too much. The consistency in this decks comes after I get ahead, however I realize that it is hard to catch up when I get behind. Mana rocks will help that, but I am open to suggestions.

Also, Lands and Artifacts need love. I am trying to stay under budget so suggestions are welcomed.

Otherwise its a very fun mid-level deck that can pretty easily be upgraded to something stronger. I love scrying/drawing/countering, and the big sea monsters really give the sensation of an overwhelming force of the ocean. Thank you for reading!
