This deck is inspired by the Food and Fellowship from Lord of the Rings, but is packed with many more life gain and Food strategies. Frodo and Sam are fine Commanders that give us access to Abzan colors, they can stay. There is also a very strong Halfling Tribal theme, but that is not the primary function of the deck.

The goal is simple; Create Food, gain life, make baddies and win! Now you have permission to play with your food.

Baddies: (4) - this category includes creatures which can reach a truly unlimited size because of food consumption.

  1. Mushroom Watchdogs
  2. Rapacious Guest
  3. Devouring Sugarmaw
  4. Banquet Guests

Tutors: (3) - in my opinion, we should not make the deck super heavy on tutors. Including a few to find combo pieces is relevant so that we can speed up the game.

  1. Grim Tutor - losing 3 life is not a downside when you can easily crack a food.
  2. Profane Tutor - cheap and underrated tutor.

Board Wipes: (5) We don't want to go overboard with these, but unfortunately when you are weak vs. Flying Creatures and playing a "Weenie" style deck, what choice do you have but to bring these to the party? We choose board Wipes that will hurt opponents more than they will harm us, and in many cases, these fit right into your plans.

  1. Fumigate - you gain life and wipe the board.
  2. Toxic Deluge - you can afford to pay A LOT of Life for this to work, it can be one sided.
  3. The Battle of Bywater - wipe board and create food, a perfect tempo play in the deck.
  4. Farewell - totally customized, EXILE what needs to be dealt with.
  5. Fell the Mighty - customize for T1 and above with Frodo coming out of your command zone.

Winning!

  1. Weaponize Lifegain - by using Sanguine Bond you can torch a single player by bonding with them.Indulging Patrician OR Marauding Blight-Priest bleed EACH opponent. These are easy to trigger with Food, they will bleed the table dry if left unchecked. Mirkwood Bats could be the best card in the deck! Mirkwood burns whenever you create or sacrifice a food token. Cauldron Familiar is a long for the ride too.

  2. Subtle Combat - it is easy to ignore Gollum, Obsessed Stalker, it - swings like a lowly 1/1, but then hits like a truck because of the life gain clause. Frodo, Sauron's Bane kills a player if He is leveled up and the ring has tempted you 4x times. Use Access Tunnel or Rogue's Passage to send either of these.

  3. Obvious Beat down in Combat - connect with a massive creature such as Banquet Guests, Mushroom Watchdogs, Devouring Sugarmaw or Rapacious Guest. Bonus points of Rapacious Guest leaves the battlefield, as it still deals damage equal to it's power. You can also use Rite of Consumption to deal direct damage with a these potentially large creatures even after they connect in combat.

Notes:

3/15/24 - We pulled Feasting Troll Ling and Burning Rune Demon from the deck. Replacing with Cat Oven combo pieces. Academy Manufactor is here now and so is Gyome, Master Chef. Still no Syr Ginger, but that will likely change soon. I pulled Arcane Signet for Night of Sweet's Revenge too.

1/27/24 - This deck slaps! My first time playing it went toe to toe with a bigger badder Angel Tribal deck. But we had too few lands at only 36, so that needs to change. In addition, we dropped the Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant win condition.
