Pretty straightforward deck. B/G(Golgari), Aggro, and Counters. Only really for casual play against my two friends, so being uber prepared for the meta-game isn't my first concern. We do however adhere to Modern rules. Both main decks that they happen to run are geared more towards those OTK win-con combos, so I like that my deck really puts the pressure on them if they can't get that combo in the first few turns. None of us have huge budgets, so no one is running cards more expensive than $7-8 unless they got lucky and got it in a pack.

Goal is to steamroll my opponent's life down so they're forced to block with creatures they might otherwise need for their combo. So trample is a pretty key word. The main focus, and I mainly pursued this archetype because I find it insanely fun, is to pile up the counters! I'm sure there are PLENTY of staples and "obvious" combos I'm sure I'm missing. That being said, please, take a look and give me some feedback! Any criticism is appreciated.

Some recommendations I need/misc comments:

  • LANDS: Advice on which lands I should use and how many. I'm not an expert yet on how many or what combination of lands. I also can't afford to buy the standard fetches that most people use so I did my best.

  • As a primarily green w/ a splash of black aggro deck, trample is my best option for dealing out the damage fast. But I can't seem to find the right balance of cards. I used to run 4x Avatar of the Resolute and 3-4x Managorger Hydra, and they both fit the counter theme very well, but I just can't figure out what to remove. The card:Strangelroot Geist seemed like a better bet because of the hast, even if they're counter building ability isn't immediately helpful like Avatar. I do have 1 each of Kalonian Hydra and Nylea, God of the Hunt which would both be considered win-cons, but I feel like Nylea is too dependent on having other strong cards, so Kalonian would be a better drop. Maybe replace Cytoplast with it?

  • I don't run Elvish Mystic, but I noticed lots of decks do. Is it something I def need or would it be a strong addition?

  • Currently only have a single Hangarback Walker, but I feel like it would be stupid of me not to include it just because I don't have a full set yet.
