A budget deck made from the bulk bins and draft chaff (and in some cases literal cards from the trash) at my local game store.

This little deck is scrappy and has surprised me, considering it has a 7 manna “do nothing” commander. The game-plan is to ramp hard in the early game, try to keep board clear of creatures, and eventually swing in with a big Kazarov.

At 7mana with an activated ability to boot, Kazarov is one mana hungry princess! However, if we’re able to last to the mid/late game against any token/creature based decks, he can get surprisingly big and an easy win condition 1v1.

The idea is to play a lot of AoE effects that damage all the creatures at once. With some additional ways of giving the creatures deathtouch at instant speed, we can turn any of our mass damage creatures into board wipes, sometimes even one sided, and keeping our creatures relevant into the late game.

Cards that shined in playtesting:

Impulsive pilferer- early game play that ramps for a turn AND gives us a late game ramp spell. Never a time that I didn’t like casting this little hobo

Zagras- a definite argument could be made to run this as the commander. Haste gets the guy in there, has some cost reduction, and gives a well needed static deathtouch effect to our AoE effects. Wanting to make a non budget brew with this guy!

Hellions- I wish there were more of these things in black and red! These creatures are right up our alley, being a spiritual tribal animal of the deck.

Flame Blitz- table said, “it does WHAT?!” First time I resolved it. Much salt over such a cheap enchantment. At worse, it’s two mana draw a card. At it’s best, it slows down entire planeswalker decks and clears boards.
