This mono-red(yes, mono red) deck is a blast to play for many reasons, but the main ones include...

• Card draw. Early game Temple Bell or Howling Mine makes you everybody's friend! Their fear of your commander has dissipated...for now. Does your opponent like their hand? Too bad, Magus of the Wheel, or maybe Reforge the Soul? Or quite possibly just smash 'em with the Dragon Mage you have given haste with Fervor.

• Stealing their sh*t. Hey, that's a pretty nice Memnarch you got there. Silly blue deck, you look like you're all tapped out. Let me take that off your hands with a Harness by Force. Oh, that was the only creature you had out? Lemme hit you with it real quick, oh and before I pass the turn? I'm gonna sacrifice it to Carnage Altar to draw a card. Save that Insurrection until they really start dropping threats to see the disappointment in their eyes take full form.

• Mana. Heartless Hidetsugu + Neheb, the Eternal into...whatever you want. Oh, and there's Braid of Fire + Brand of Ill Omen and Ruby Medallion. Or just Banefire for however much you've dealt this turn.

• Protection. Glacial Chasm, Price of Glory, Smoke, Lich's Mirror, Pentagram of the Ages - you name it! There's also lifelink from Basilisk Collar and Loxodon Warhammer for a 60 life swing in one turn. The Heartless Phoenix will rise from the ashes of his own fiery tetsubo!

• Coin flip win. Desperate Gambit + Heartless Hidetsugu . Tears, just tears, of joy and of sadness.
