Rofellos's Gift Discussion

I'm not sure how stocked you keep your hand usually, but Rofellos's Gift would be pretty good even if you revealed just two Green cards to get back some curses.

Tzefick on Pattern Recognition #141 - Voltron

I completely agree on White being one of the best supplementary colors for a Voltron strategy, if not for anything else than their affinity for equipments, auras and not letting the opponent do anything on your turn.

I feel like you're not giving enough credit to Green and Black and too much credit to Blue. Mainly because blue-white (as the preference for at least 2 of the colors for your Commander) don't have that good Voltron commanders to blow the other colors completely out of the waters.

Green have ways to protect with Veil of Summer, Heroic Intervention, Autumn's Veil. Green can re-use the graveyard far better than you give them credit for. Which is not irrelevant if your plan goes awry and your Commander ends up dead or countered a lot. Or if all your equipment gets blown up with a Vandalblast.

Green also have a piece of the "my turn, I play, you don't!" with City of Solitude and Dosan the Falling Leaf.

Green has a lot of card draw available to them to substitute blue's card draw. And in certain situations their card draw is more efficient than blue, especially for Voltron. Hunter's Insight, Return of the Wildspeaker, Soul's Majesty, Rishkar's Expertise. If you choose the aura approach, there's the entirety of the Enchantress group that white also have some additions for.

Green also have a few enchantment affinities like white, with the likes of Sterling Grove, Ancestral Mask, Rofellos's Gift.

And how could I forget about the lovely interaction between trample and deathtouch - you're basically getting unblockable at that point. Hmm, it seems like black is more keen on giving it to creatures than green is.

Moving on to Black, there's a group of surprise cards that Voltron Commanders can take advantage of, like Hatred and Tainted Strike. And the ever-weird Endless Scream that's permanently applied firebreathing. Of course not to mention the best variety of tutors available in Commander.

One way to get past your opponent's defenses is if they don't have any. Black is certainly one of the better to provide in that aspect.

I'm quite certain I don't even do black justice here, but I'll refrain from bloating this response further. I just feel like the ranking is skewed disproportionately.

Rofellos's Gift: What do people think? It seems too good for this deck not to run.

I REALLY like Rofellos's Gift but have no idea what I would cut to add it.

I also like Argothian Elder but again, don't know what to cut. Suggestions please!

You'll want some faster card draw and creatures, and more go-wide pay offs. Disciple of Bolas, Zulaport Cutthroat, Falkenrath Noble, Blood Artist, Grim Backwoods, Sangromancer, Rogue's Passage, Whip of Erebos are all good cards to add.

Midnight Banshee is a major nonbo in your deck. It kills all of your snakes that you get from it, as well as many of your other creatures.

I dont see a reason to run Soul of New Phyrexia, Rite of Belzenlok, Rofellos's Gift, or Black Market.

Cut: Trigon of Corruption, Serrated Arrows, and Culling Dais. These cards are all too slow.

For lands you'll want to avoid tapped lands that dont further your game plan some how. Replace with basics or fast-duals: Foul Orchard, Golgari Guildgate, Golgari RotFarm, Jungle Hollow, Khalni Garden, Mortuary Mire, Oran-Rief, the Vastwood, Cabal Stronghold. Manabasecrafter.com provides a very helpful list of every mana source you can play given your commander.

-37 lands in a bit short for EDH : advice is 40 to avoid issue plus aprox 10 carads for card advantage. In your setup, i would recommand more creature cards that ramp lands and that you can sac like Yavimaya Elder and Wood ElvesExplore cards migth also be very usefull to pull out more lands from the deck and filling your Graveyard.Deadeye Tracker, Jadelight Ranger, Merfolk Branchwalker, Path of Discovery, Tomb Robber

Cards to cut :Grim Guardian , Heliod's Emissary, Leafcrown Dryad : not impactfull enoughHermit of the Natterknolls  Flip : Not an enchantement, does not do a lot for the deck

Sheoldred, Whispering One & Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger : Those guys are dangerous, Not sure if your deck can manage to show them in play or in the graveyard and survive the focus tou'll get. I personally stoped playing them for this reason.

Bear Umbra, Curse of Bounty -> What do you do with the untaps ???

Exsanguinate, Genesis Wave, Profane Command -> You dont have mana to make those game-ending, would replace with fixed cost spell or creatures

Overwhelming Stampede -> Quite situationnal, Craterhoof will do a better job beeing a creature you can bring back. If you are looking for a lethal finished, Triumph of the Hordes is more effective

Candidate to add :

Aegis of the Gods

Celestial Archon

Doomwake Giant

Skybind -> retrigger ETB

Strength from the Fallen

Celestial Ancient

Helm of the Gods

Punishment

Thanks Boza for your suggestion. You are right, a third color in Pauper is often taxing. I do enjoy playing Sun-Crowned Hunters... But I would like to find another bomb and win condition in black or green.

I might try Tortured Existence, but I don't think it would be very good in that deck.

For Pestilence, I think 3 is the sweet number, as having 2 in your starting hand is pretty bad. With the amount of card draw this deck has, it is no problem to see at least 2 Pestilence in a game. Rofellos's Gift can bring one back from the graveyard if needed.
