Competitive(ish) Karador EDH deck help
Deck Help forum
Posted on Dec. 23, 2014, 3 a.m. by Epicpotato
I have recently been playing around with a Karador build and I will be honest, I have no idea what I'm doing. Absolutely any advice would be welcome and the main theme card of the deck is Genesis Wave. The deck will mostly be used for 1v1 but would like to have the ability to survive in multiplayer. Also, if anyone can find any combos (besides of course Saffi/Reveillark/Karmic Guide) please inform me.
Here is the deck

My buddy runs a straight up oppressive Karador deck. Saffi Eriksdotter+Sun Titan means you alwas have presence, Shriekmaw gives you a Terror every turn, Ashnod's Altar gives a great sac outlet so you can recast stuff for etb effects. He has it pretty well tuned so once you hit turn 6 or so he's incredibly hard to stop

Birthing Pod is pretty insane in Karador, since it is a sac outlet for your dudes that also doubles as a tutor for your insane ETB creatures. Also, I run far fewer basics than you do, but you may want to give Hermit Druid a try, since he not only finds you a land drop for each turn but is an engine for dumping creatures in your yard.
Here is my list if you want to take a look at how we differ: Karador My Wayward Son

Thanks you guys for these suggestions, but regarding Hermit Druid and the issue of the basic lands, I just dont have the money to sink into a mana base right now. I will be adding more duel lands and fetches, just not now. Also, I am not running Hermit Druid because I want to stay away from 'dump your library into your graveyard then have your opponent play Tormod's Crypt and make you lose the game' and dredge cards like Stinkweed Imp because I would like to control the creatures that are entering the GY and tempt grave hate on less important creatures.
Also, I was looking for a sac outlet that is more fun to play so I will be switching out my Altar of Dementia for Ashnod's Altar
Overall I have seen that I will be trying to play Karador as graveyard interaction to get free creatures, not as 'dredge entire deck into GY, then play entire deck out of GY via Sun Titan/Reveillark and Saffi Eriksdotter.
Should I play Karador as a Dredge deck?
Regarding the Shriekmaw, what should I switch out for it?

I don't. It's my buddies deck and he's tuning it fairly often. Those are some of the big names in it though. I know he also runs Reclamation Sage, Oracle of Mul Daya, Lord of Extinction, Pernicious Deed, Sylvan Caryatid, Birds of Paradise, Solemn Simulacrum, Karmic Guide and Woodfall Primus are some standouts I can name off the top of my head. Just look at mtgtop8.com and grab a basic list from there, thats where he got most of his list from

Mine isn't very good I think but you can get what you can out of it I guess: MTG's Zombie Apocalypse

mathimus55, I'm interested in how your buddy gets stuff into the GY to use Karador's abilitys, does he have any specific cards, or is it just some dredge such as Stinkweed Imp?

Hermit Druid is a huge one. If you get that out <t4 you win. Jarad's Orders, Life from the Loam and Golgari Grave-Troll are the other big enablers, orders is pretty solid since it can tutor and fill the yard at the same time. You said you didn't want to Hermit Druid though since people can do whatever to your graveyard, but that's just part of edh too, people in your play group will adapt to whatever each other are doing. My Rafiq of the Many deck gets lots of hate and people adapted the same way we adapted to Karador or any other deck in our playgroup. Hermit Druid is crazy powerful and efficient and I haven't seen him lose if he gets it out before anyone else gets their commander out, even if we were to Rest in Peace/Tormod's Crypt/etc him b/c it puts you that far ahead and gives you that much more consistency.

Sorry to double post, but Birthing Pod is the other crazy GY enabler too. It doubles as psuedo ramp and gets dudes where you want them to be.

Hermit Druid sounds very loved (by the people who play him), but my question is this: getting things out of the graveyard? Do I just cast it all out with Crucible of Worlds and Karador, Ghost Chieftain or do I use some specific cards such as Reanimate? Sorry if this seem like a stupid question(s), but I just want to be really thorough. I want to know exactly what my deck does when it does things and not just add Hermit Druid because someone on the internet told me to. Also I think I will be ok with GY hate as I will most likely be keeping my Aegis of the Gods and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth in my deck, I will most likely add Elixir of Immortality as well.

A lot of people run stuff like Obzedat's Aid or Karmic Guide or Eternal Witness or Sheoldred, Whispering One or even Praetor's Counsel.

Cards like Obzedat's Aid, Karmic Guide, Sheoldred, Whispering One, Reya Dawnbringer, Unburial Rites, and Dread Return are nice because they bring creatures directly to the battlefield and not your hand. One of the combos I like is having Sun Titan out and Fleshbag Marauder in your graveyard, everytime Titan attacks you can bring back Fleshbag and force your opponent to sac something.
If you have either Sheoldred, Whispering One or Reya Dawnbringer out as well as Karador, Ghost Chieftan all at the same time you can get ahead of your opponents really quick. Cast Karmic Guide and return something from the graveyard with her. At your next upkeep, choose not to pay the echo cost, let her die then reanimate her with Sheoldred or Karador, get her back and another creature back with her ability. Then you can use the other creature to get yet another creature out. My Karador deck has turned into my favorite.

Hermit Druid and Saffi Eriksdotter are must haves. Yes gy hate against hermit druid is a thing but all the mana ramp kind of offsets the threat of it because every card you play late game is generally a bomb. Living Death and Rise of the Dark Realms are a blast(as long as you enjoy your opponents suffering). For reanimation karador is my main engine. Then I play cards like Eternal Witness Treasured Find Karmic GuideSun TitanUnburial rights Whip of Erebos Deadwood Treefolk even Angel of Serenity can grab creatures from the gy.

I run a few good combo's in Karador and will be posting my list on here soon.
I find the best combo (which will get you hated when you do it) is:
Karmic Guide and Reveillark with any sac outlet Viscera Seer or Carrion Feeder or Flesh-Eater Imp
Then combine with any of the below:
Acidic Slime - Wipe all other players Artifacts, Enchantments and Lands.
Voice of Resurgence - Infinite Big Elementals.
Riftsweeper - Had your Graveyard Exiled? Get it all back into your deck.
Wood Elves - Get all your forests onto the field.
Eternal Witness - Get all those non-creatures back to your hand.
Spike Feeder - Infinite Life.
Solemn Simulacrum - All Basics onto the field, and lots of card draw.
Sure there's others, but these are what i run.

I'm surprised Nyx Weaver, Lotleth Troll, and Deadbridge Chant haven't been mentioned yet. It's good to have an outlet to bring cards to your hand in the event that someone shuts you down with Grafdigger's Cage or something of the sort. Both Nyx and the troll are strong low drops that help you craft your yard IMO

I run dead bridge, just a card I generally forget about. I was underwhelmed by NYC Weaver and just ended up taking it out. I don't want to use turn 2 or 3 on him. I'd rather just have more ramp

I use Lotleth Troll and am considering Deadbridge Chant, but was focusing my post on the obscene combo's.
Talking of which Saffi Eriksdotter can be used instead of Karmic Guide in the combos, so need to get me one of them.

Wow, its been a while since I've been on here. School and whatnot. Anyway I enjoy these suggestions and I have a lot of writing to do.
But before discussing cards I have some thing to tell you, this thread is now outdated. I have retired the use of this specific deck list and have moved the thread Here with a new decklist and everything.
Do not worry, I will still consider these suggestions, just not for this deck list.
Acidic Slime: This card I was interested in, but I only have 99 slots. Should I switch something for it?
Voice of Resurgence: This one seems very interesting. Should I switch this for something like Terastodon?
Riftsweeper: I have build more of a response to exile than a deal with exile deck, if you know what I mean
Wood Elves: I've actually had him in here before I switched him for Sakura-Tribe Elder
Eternal Witness: In the deck
Spike Feeder: I've seen this to be used in an infinite life combo, but it is just a bit hard to pull off, so I pulled him out.
Solemn Simulacrum: I would rather have Sakura-Tribe Elder honestly. Reasons being; he is much easier to use in order to get all the lands, because of his self sacrifice ability, and he is less expensive. They both have their advantages, but for now I am sticking with the elder.
Nyx Weaver: in all likelihood this will end up in the deck, but I don't know what to switch, maybe something like Terastodon (I've wanted to get rid of him.) However, considering goldenfoot's opinion of it I will play around with it a bit before I use it all the time.
Lotleth Troll: I want this.
Deadbridge Chant: This seems like a randomized Sheoldred, Whispering One. I like it.
@Janiax: You don't have a Saffi? How?! She is an absolute beast if used. (notice how I didn't say 'correctly')
