Minotaur tribal is something that has always intrigued me, and being in rakdos it has always been on my radar as a deck I'd love to make. This is my first attempt at actually making that deck a reality, and I think it's, you know, ok. Unfortunately minotaurs as a whole are kinda all over the place when it comes to what they can do, so synergy is kinda lacking BUT! I think this deck does as much as can be done to make them work well together.

Minotaurs! Show

The overall goal of this deck is to come out of the gate quickly and keep that pressure up through the game. Our commander reduces the cost of our minotaurs, meaning we can get relatively strong creatures down relatively early, get them down in numbers, and thanks to the amount of draw and recursion the deck packs we can keep both our hands and fields full. That's the plan anyway. We have numbers, but strength is a little lacking. It will take more testing and iteration to see what the most viable solution to that is, or if it won't even be a problem and the swarm of 2/3s will be able to outlast opponent fields.

Draw! Show

There is a LOT of card draw in this deck. Because we end up dropping a lot of creatures and using a lot of cards to pull those creatures out of the graveyard when they inevitably get killed over and over, our hand size can often reach top-deck which isn't ideal. To help keep us cycling through cards as quickly as possible, I've pulled some choice draw from both red and black including such bangers as Night's Whisper and Tormenting Voice. Hopefully the deck can get the job done before they're all gone and it runs out of gas. Guess we'll see!

Recursion! Show

Realistically, the deck's game plan just wouldn't work without a ton of support cards keeping it afloat. Our minotaurs will be dying a LOT so I've incorporated some of my favorite return-to-hand effects to allow us to get as much value out of them as possible. The most notable of these inclusion is of course Tortured Existence allowing us to get more useful creatures back from the graveyard by trading in the ones we don't need is incredibly useful. Cards like Raise the Draugr and Return from Extinction benefit from the large number of minotaurs, Disturbed Burial gives the strategy longevity, and Gravedigger puts the effect on a body we can recycle to do the same. Overall, there should be no shortage of ways for you to keep your minotaurs swinging. We've even got instant/sorcery recursion in Ardent Elementalist and land recursion in Scaretiller. Truly we are blessed, just watch out for graveyard hate.

Tech! Show

A few notable additions to take note of that don't fit the larger cycle of playing lots of minotaur. - Nightscape Familiar and Thunderscape Familiar help reduce the costs of our minotaur even more and can really speed up an already speedy deck. - Oubliette and Viper's Kiss can lock down commanders or other threats we can't or don't want to deal with. - Soldevi Adnate can take advantage of the fact that we're lowering costs by refunding more than we paid for creatures. All you have to do is kill them.
