  • Basic Land Art: Halo vibes

This deck is a fairly straightforward upgrade of the Buckle Up precon from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. While not as high-concept as some of my decks, I've been very pleasantly surprised by this one. Vehicles are so much more than undercosted beaters!

Importantly, creatures with summoning sickness can still crew. This means we can activate Shorikai, create a pilot token, and immediately use it. And if you don't have quite enough pilot power to crew your big top-end vehicle—say you have one pilot token, a Raiders' Karve, and Parhelion II—you can chain the smaller crewed vehicle into the larger one. It's not hard to imagine such a scenario when Shorikai can come down and pop out a pilot in the same turn, perhaps also drawing you into a cheap vehicle which can help crew something immediately.

That said, Shorikai's pilot tokens crew in increments of 3, which just so happens to be the threshold for a lot of impactful vehicles like Weatherlight and Imposter Mech. It only takes two dinky 1/1 pilot tokens to crew heavy hitters like Colossal Plow.

Meanwhile, Shorikai's draw 2, discard 1 provides some excellent card selection, while setting up our graveyard for artifact reanimator cards like Refurbish.

And finally, though it can feel like a drawback that vehicles require a steady supply of pilots for them to function as creatures, the fact that vehicles crew only for the turn means they dodge a lot of removal. Selective board wipes like Hour of Reckoning pass over your pilots, setting you up to crew and swing out on a more favorable field. Crackback who?

The result is a very flexible, hard-hitting aggro deck that can evade and bounce back from removal, keep the pressure on, and draw a silly amount of cards. Highly recommend!
